Development Update

Ahoy hoy! Another few months have passed and it's time for another SoFurry Next update!

Some of you may have noticed that a few weeks ago the beta site at https://sofurrybeta.com has been down for quite some time, but it's now back up!

We have made some major changes to our infrastructure in the background and it's now running smoother than ever! Though, this had the effect that, since it only contained demo data, we wiped all contents from the beta site to make our lives easier, which means that some older links we posted in previous site news or on our twitter account @sofurrydev might no longer work. But don't worry, as the beta comes closer and closer we're adding more and more demo data.

Now let's get into the changes and improvements we've made in the past few months.

(If you like what you see on sofurrybeta.com or in the screenshots below, please consider motivating the developer by donating a refreshment or two (https://ko-fi.com/terrabas). It would be much appreciated!

Beginning with some major UI improvements

Thanks to :iconHimbolion:, who joined our team as UI Designer, the upload section now looks a lot cleaner with more information at a glance, making it much easier to manage your uploads.

We've heard a lot of you asking for a SF2-style list for searches and browsing instead of screen-filling dynamic thumbnails, especially when looking for stories. In order to make it easier to notice relevant stories at a glance, we have added a detailed search view!

Similar to the list view on SF2 it includes all the relevant submission information with a bigger focus on metadata instead of the thumbnail.

Another big addition to SoFurry Next is the inclusion of a knowledge base.

No more digging through the SoFurry wiki, it's now neatly integrated into the new site.

Sorting through the hundreds of notifications one can get when following lots of content creators we've significantly improved the notification dashboard. Instead of just having a long list of all your notifications, they are now grouped into categories which you can easily filter and review individually. Especially your upload notifications now have the same display as searches, making it easy to view all the uploads the content creators you follow have recently made.

These have just been a few highlights of the improvements we've made since the last update. Maybe you can find some more that we left out while you check out sofurrybeta.com ;)

As always we hope that you'll like where we're headed with SFX! We're now at a point where we have a pretty clear roadmap of what's left to do before SFX will be ready for the first users to try, however we can not yet promise a specific date (progress still heavily depends on the free time of the site developer, Terra). The closer we get to what we consider a mostly finished state, the more comfortable we'll be setting a specific release date (because who doesn't like rushed unfinished software).

We are also always listening to your feedback and suggestions and try to address as much of it as we can, so don't hold back commenting with what you like, don't like or are missing from what we've shown of the new site so far! We really appreciate it.
