\n\n I gently, yet suddenly, opened my eyes. The figure next to me was familiar, warm and beautiful. She smelled like awesome. In a gentle rhythm her stomach rises and falls, slowly lulling me into a deep trance. Draped around her waist was my own furry arm. The skin on her belly was soft and smooth against my fur. A smile draped across her elegant face. I kissed her on the cheek and stared at her. She looked so peaceful where she lay. Her eyes opened.
\n\n "Good morning." I whispered.
\n\n "Good morning beautiful." She scratched the top of my head.
\n\n "Mmm. You look perfect in my arms."
\n\n She giggled. "You're too much."
\n\n I shrugged. "We should go check on the youngins."
\n\n "But you're much more fun for me."
\n\n "Woah there!" I joke, eliciting a proper punch in the arm for the sexual innuendo.
\n\n "Hmm." She burrowed into my chest and stayed there. "You're too comfy."
\n\n "I'll make breakfast." I tempted her.
\n\n "Oh... My poor stomach." She feigned. I pushed her lightly.
\n\n "Stop that."
\n\n "Stop what?"
\n\n "Teasing me."
\n\n "You know I'm kidding."
\n\n "Babe... So am I. I'm joking."
\n\n Haley blinked.
\n\n "Right, sorry I'm just a little slow when I wake up."
\n\n I nodded.
\n\n "Let's get some food." I nudged her slightly. She sighed and held tighter onto me.
\n\n "Fine." She stood and walked over to her overnight bag and picked some clothes out. Looking at her, I saw a gleam in her eye. Mischief was on her mind. She hooked her panties around her thumb and slowly slid it down a little. She left them there and danced slightly, spinning. "Like what you're seeing?"
\n\n "More than you could ever know." I teased. She smiled profusely. I felt my penis poke through the sheath. She wiggled the panties down, exposing herself to me. My jaw almost dropped at the sight of those perfect... God, so damn pretty. Tantalizingly, I looked at the show before me, my lovely Haley baring all... as a complete surprise. She swung her hands over her head, onto her back. Dropping, the bra revealed the two loveliest breasts I've ever had the pleasure of beholding. Haley smiled at me.
\n\n "You like that?" She asked.
\n\n I nodded my head slowly, not wanting the fun to end. She walked over to me and straddled me. Through the sheets I felt her. She pressed herself to me and kissed me roughly. Breaking, she stood.
\n\n "You're gonna have to wait." She teased. I pouted.
\n\n "But I want it now!"
\n\n Haley just laughed and walked into the bathroom and turned on the water.
\n\n "Tease!" I called, knowing she couldn't hear. I stood and grabbed a pair of pants and the shirt I wore the day before. I went up the stairs and walk into the kitchen. After starting a pot of coffee, I walked upstairs to Sophie's room. I knocked. "Sophie you awake?" I stood waiting for her. "Sophie?" I opened the door and saw the two, dressed as sparsely as Haley and I were, on her bed. Andy was wrapped around Sophie and I saw his wolf tail wagging ever so slightly.
\n\n "Hey you two." I call again, loud enough to wake them, but still lightly so it's not rude. They stir. I heard vague whispering. "Making breakfast," I told them. I closed the door and walked downstairs. The water stopped so I knew that Haley would be coming up in a little bit. I grabbed some mugs for coffee and get out the pancake mix. I wasn't like a cook or anything, but I would make breakfast occasionally. It wasn't like it was difficult or anything. Except if you counted the time I set off the smoke alarms while making eggs. With oil. I'm still embarrassed about that one.
\n\n Sophie and Andy bolted down the stairs screeching. They circled around the dining room table and were playing some innocent game. I continued my normal business, ignoring all else. I cracked the eggs easily, and mixed them into the batter. I stirred and hummed slightly as I did. Wagging my tail, I was all but dancing as I stood in that kitchen. Haley's presence and the fun of the entire night played through in my head endlessly. A tight pressure on my ass caused me to yelp and jump. Haley started laughing loudly and I just sighed.
\n\n "You liked it." She said, leaning on the counter.
\n\n "Only with you."
\n\n She blushed. "You, good sir, are a dork."
\n\n "I wouldn't be insulting the one making your breakfast."
\n\n "Are you going to be starting another fire?" I pushed her slightly and she just laughed. Sophie ran and slid into the counter bonking her head on the counter. She stood and giggled, on an endorphin high.
\n\n "Hi Haley!" She grabbed Haley at the waist and squeezed tightly. Andy just stood looking a little uncomfortable at the situation.
\n\n "Hey Andy, wanna help me get breakfast ready?"
\n\n Eyes lighting up he readily agreed. "What do you need?"
\n\n I directed him while the girls went and talked about whatever it is they talked about. (Knowing Sophie... probably gossip about me.) Andy was preparing the eggs, rather well actually, when the phone rang. I answered.
\n\n "Hello?"
\n\n "Brent?" I recognized Logan's voice from the few times I talked to him.
\n\n "Is this Logan?" I ask, making confirmation.
\n\n "Yeah."
\n\n "Hey. What's up?"
\n\n "I have someone with me who wants you to visit."
\n\n "He's conscious already?"
\n\n "Yeah."
\n\n "How's he look?" I heard slight murmuring in the background and then a sudden whinny.
\n\n "Sexier than before." He answers.
\n\n Images flashed into my head, I have too much of a gutter-brain. "Logan?"
\n\n "Yeah?"
\n\n "Tell Jake that I'll be there to eat his brains after breakfast."
\n\n Confused, Logan convened the message.
\n\n "He says 'get your ass over here or you'll become his wolfspawn'..." Hanging up, I chuckled at our inside jokes. I couldn't wait to see him. The new him. The real, Jake Carter.

\n\n Sophie, Haley and I walked into the hospital and I immediately felt sick to my stomach. But this was for Jake, my best friend, I could handle it. My shoes squeaked on the floor as I approached the reception desk.
\n\n "Hi, I'm a friend of Jake Carter's, can you tell me what room he's in?" The intern looked upset at being interrupted from her game of Solitaire. She flipped through the patients and found it.
\n\n "Room 206," she smacked through her gum. I thanked her and went to the elevator. Haley and Sophie were talking about something, I don't remember exactly, I was too nervous at seeing Jake. It'd be a big change, Jake as a wolf. My mind went to the kiss, and I remembered all the details of him, the contours of his lips, the softness of his- Dammit! Don't you do that, not when you have the most amazing girl imaginable, and she's willing to strip for you! Don't think that! Upstairs, we looked around aimlessly until we were able to find 206. I sighed. Time to meet your best friend.
\n\n I opened the door and saw Jake's parents sitting on a couch, they looked happy to see me. I smiled and greeted them.
\n\n "Brent! You made it!" Jake cried from around the corner. I hesitated before turning. Was I ready for this? I turned. I barely recognized the figure in front of me. The black wolf with the blue eyes. He was looking a little tired, and I suspected the transformation was going to have the normal side-effects. Logan was sitting next to Jake. I wasn't the least bit surprised, honestly. I walked around the bed and gave Jake a hug.
\n\n "How you feeling?"
\n\n "Good. I- I- I'm not used to the snout though, it feels... weird! It's like I have a growth on my face."
\n\n "You do... It's your nose."
\n\n Jake laughed, his voice sounded different, no doubt from the fatigue placed on your vocal cords from stretching the neck to fit the canine proportions. His words came out differently, a little more slurred than before. The new mouth meant re-learning how to talk. He still could talk confidently, but it wasn't all there. Sophie came around and hugged Jake tightly.
\n\n "Yay! You're a fur now, like the rest of us."
\n\n Haley shifted her weight into me. She smiled at Jake though I had the feeling she wasn't entirely honest about it. I made a mental note to ask about that later.
\n\n Jake told us about what happened, and explained the procedure. Sophie was a little disgusted, but still interested. Haley and Logan talked about the fall musical, and how it was going. Logan got really into it and Jake started smiling.
\n\n "He gets so cute when he's passionate." He explained. I punched him lightly.
\n\n "You're a dork." We laughed. "I'm so happy for you though, I mean, this is your dream. How does it feel?"
\n\n "It's about time." Showing off his sharp, new teeth, he smiled. "I feel normal."
\n\n "How about the tail?" Jake flexed it so it poked through the sheets.
\n\n "I've always wanted a tail."
\n\n "You should have taken mine..."
\n\n "Brent, you have a great tail."
\n\n I blinked.
\n\n "That sounded so much better in my head, I swear."
\n\n "I just don't like it, I wish I didn't have one."
\n\n "Well, you'd look goofy without one. Not to mention off balance." Brent always managed to point out the silver lining. I think that's why he was my best friend. Not because we were that similar, though that did help, but because... he cheered me up, and made me feel good about myself.
\n\n "So how much longer you gonna be stuck here?"
\n\n "A few more days, they want to make sure that I don't have the loss of equilibrium that can sometimes happen. I mean, my feet are completely different now. And the tail.... It's so... weird... I mean, I can't describe it."
\n\n I laugh at him all but squirming at describing his new body. It's clear he loves it, but he still has to get used to it, which seems like a great time to play pranks on him... If I was the type... which I'm not...
\n\n Not normally at least.
\n\n Something dawned on me.
\n\n "Oh man... how's Roberts gonna handle you? I mean... he's gonna just freak!"
\n\n Jake cracked up at this. "Oh man, I hadn't even thought of that. That's gonna be aw- aw- aw- Dammit. Awesome. There we go!"
\n\n I laugh at his struggle to say a very simple word. He threw his hospital jello at me.
\n\n "Hey man, if you're angry at me, that's one thing, but leave the jello out of it!" Jake grabbed his pillow and threw it at me. Sophie squealed as I used her a shield.
\n\n "Save me Sophie!" She fought against me, and whatever Jake threw at me.
\n\n "Brent! Put me down!" She giggled. Logan and Haley stared from the sidelines, amazed at how their boyfriends were acting. I didn't really care, I mean, this was my best friend, this is what we did. The orderlies however, didn't share the sentiment when they came in.
\n\n "Sir! Put the girl down!"
\n\n I let Sophie go.
\n\n "Good, now, can you please keep it down?" She asked.
\n\n "Sure thing." I responded. The orderly rolled her eyes and swayed her way out the door. Jake and I cracked up at getting busted. It was always so much funnier when we were getting in trouble.
\n\n "Brent..." Logan looked at me.
\n\n "Yeah?"
\n\n "Are you two always like that?"
\n\n I smiled and scratched the back of my head embarrassed. "Yeah..." Logan just rolled his eyes and mouthed something to Haley. I wasn't sure what it was, but I was sure it was probably insulting when Haley started laughing.
\n\n "Don't say that about my little foxxy."
\n\n I blushed. "Don't call me that."
\n\n "Look babe, I'm sorry but, it's your name now." Haley grabbed my arm and leaned against my shoulder. Jake snorted and I picked up his jello and threw it at him. The package exploded in a mess all over him. I suppressed my laughter, even though I did feel kind of bad about it.
\n\n "Really Brent? Really? Ugh!" Jake whined. Logan patted his shoulder.
\n\n "It's okay love, it'll just make you taste sweeter." Brent smiled.
\n\n "That was pretty cheesy babe."
\n\n I interjected. "Didn't you two have like, one date? How are you two so close already?"
\n\n "Iming all night." Jake smiled, picking a piece of jello out from his ear. I nodded slowly.
\n\n "I thought you said you were studying!" His mom broke in. We all kinda had forgotten that his parents were there.
\n\n "I was! I was studying my new horsey." I coughed. That was pretty much a conversation killer. As funny and cool and Jake could, he always had the undeniable gift of killing the conversations.
\n\n *****
\n\n Tuesday morning I drove to Jake's house to give him a ride. His walk was a little off and I think I knew why. I stepped out of the car and walk to meet him.
\n\n "Did you remember to cut the hole for your tail?"
\n\n Jake sighed in embarrassment. "Damn, I knew I was forgetting something." I went to the car and grabbed a small knife from the glove compartment. I cut the hole for Jake really quickly, ignoring the awkwardness of the situation. Cutting another person's pants as a fur was something you only did for kids, but Jake was a new fur, so it wasn't as bad. Tensing, Jake stopped and froze.
\n\n "Jake what's wrong?" Playing around, his ears tried to identify the source of an intruder. He bounded away from me, chasing after a tiny little rabbit. I was a little afraid that this would happen. The increased animal instincts can occasionally overcome the logic section of the brain. It's always bad at first. "Jake!" He turned around, distracted. "Get back here." He nodded.
\n\n "Sorry I don't know what that was."
\n\n "Instinct, your brain just got a little overwhelmed by things." Jake nodded and we got into the Doomsday and drove off. He was still playing with his mouth, unaccustomed to it.
\n\n "You excited for your first day back?" I asked. Nodding Jake kinda looked blankly out the window. "You okay?"
\n\n "Just nervous as hell man." Stopped at a light, I turned to face him.
\n\n "Dude, it's gonna be fine, don't worry. And if anyone gives you hell, I'll kick their ass."
\n\n Displaying his white canines, Jake smiled. "Thanks, that means a lot to me." Pressing my foot to the accelerator, I shifted the gears, and the car jerked back, before gunning forward. I loved driving, just the feeling of control in the car, it made me happy. I turned into the back road to get to the school, which was always less crowded because it went through a neighborhood. I fought to find a parking spot, narrowly beating out a human on the cheer squad. She looked pissed off, but that wasn't my problem. I had better things to deal with.
\n\n Jake got out of the car and kinda bounced up and down. "C'mon! Let's go! Let's go!"
\n\n "Calm down. God, you were never this excited for school before."
\n\n "Well, I wasn't all furry and adorable before." He smiled and rolled his eyes up to look up and to the right. I couldn't help but laugh at him.
\n\n "You're an idiot."
\n\n "You love me!." He pushed at my shoulder.
\n\n "Yeah yeah yeah." I opened the door for him, and we walked in.
\n\n People weren't exactly freaking out over the new Jake, but I'm not really sure if they had noticed it yet. Jake's ears started to dart around, and his eyes were flickering about, absorbing every little detail. I saw the look in his eyes, the dilation of the pupils and I grabbed his arm firmly.
\n\n "Jake, listen to me, you're under a lot of new sensations, try and focus clearly on what we're doing. We're going to Econ." With eyes glazed, Jake stopped paying attention. I shook him. He shook his head and looked at me.
\n\n "Sorry, just... yeah, spaced."
\n\n "I know you did. You okay now?"
\n\n "Yeah, like, I dunno, my brain had to start filtering things."
\n\n "Yeah, you're gonna have a few episodes like that for the first week or so."
\n\n "I know, my doctor told me. I just wasn't expecting it to be so... intense."
\n\n "It'll get better. C'mon let's go."
\n\n Jake and I walked into Econ and Roberts' face froze. I saw the flicker of rage in his eyes, the gnashing of teeth. The slight twitch of his finger. We pressed on to our desks where we sat at our normal place near the corner. The bell rang and the class quieted down, waiting for Roberts' normal shtick of the warm ups before he started the lesson. But this was different. He just stood, fixed upon Jake. Stiffly, he advanced on Jake and me. I felt increasingly self conscious, but Jake didn't let it get to him.
\n\n The fool.
\n\n Roberts looked at Jake, then at me. His seating chart, me, and Jake. Three focal points to which his eyes were darting between before finally affixing themselves to Jake once again.
\n\n "Well well well... I always knew you were a coward, Mr. Carter, but betraying your own species? That's a whole new low." He spat out slowly chewed words.
\n\n "I am who I am, and that's all I'll ever be." Jake met Roberts with a gaze so deadly.
\n\n "Yes you are." As Roberts turned, he muttered, "Furfags." I'll be Damned if I didn't have visions of pouncing him and getting him to take it back.
