I awoke from a deep slumber.

To you, it probably was

A mindless action,

But I got a revelation.

When you left for the bathroom,

Your paw had escaped me,

And I did not pay attention.

Before I became aware,

My hand was empty.

I realized at that moment. 

No matter what happens, 

I don't want to lose 

The warmth of your hand.

I noticed I’ve been 

Taking you for granted.

But, never again.

Each day I will gift you

Proof of my affection.

When your smile shines on me,

I want to laugh along.

When tears roll down your cheeks,

I want to be there to dry them.

When the day messes your mind and fur,

I want to tidy you up.

You had been living our love

For the both of us.

Meanwhile, my heart slept.

And did not worry when to rise,

For it was sure you would be there.

But now it will remain awake,

To appreciate

All of you.

I’m glad that, at least,

I caught these feelings

Before I drove you away.

But I worry even now.

When I run out of words,

Will you forgive me, I wonder.
