The dragon still stared at me, while I was sitting on the floor with my back against the wall pretty petrified with fear.
My eyes were still wide. What am I going to do? She has me trapped in here. I need to find a way to get out of here.
I tried to talk to the dragon, but my lips were trembling.
The dragon cocked her head, and said, "Wow, you are scared." Then she shot up her head, "Ha! I'm not surprised. After all I do look scary. Enough that I look like a monster, right?"
I didn't answer her question, my thoughts were only focused on my own well being! Now I'm just starting to sweat with fear.
She sighed and shook her head, "Quit worrying. I'm not going to kill you, unless you force me to. Which in that case, you're welcome to try." Then she narrowed her eyes down at me, "And for your sake, you better not try it."
I finally shook my head, when I heard her say that. Wait, she's not going to kill me? Why? I asked, "Wait, hold on, why didn't you kill me? I thought you were trying to kill me?"
She sat down on her haunches, her big long tail curling around her. She still hasn't taken her eyes off of me, "If I wanted to kill you, I would have done it by now. Which in THAT case, you wouldn't be alive right now."
I finally stood up on my feet and then I asked, "Then why did you bring me here? What do you want from me?"
She answered, "What I want from you...Is answers."
My face frowned, "Answers?"
She angrily said, "Yes, answers. As in, I ask you a couple of questions, and you answer them properly, got it now? Or do I have to repeat myself? By the way you better not lie to me, or else otherwise, I'll make your life feel like shit, got it?"
I stared at her blankly. She wants to ask me questions? Boy this is gonna be tough, but hey it's better than being eaten by her. But then a thought popped in my head and then I went ahead and I pointed at her, "Hey wait a minute! You're a dragon!"
The dragon rolled her eyes, "Duh, of course I am! Great not only he's a human, but he's a stupid one as well. I can't believe what I'm dealing with."
I glared at her, and yapped back, "Hey I'm not stupid. I just...I'm just surprised that you're a dragon! I've never met one before. I mean I have some questions to ask you as well. Like how are you here? How long have you been here? Or maybe-"
She growled and shouted, "Enough!"
I shut my trap shut. Okay, no need to antagonize her.
The dragon continued, "Only I get to ask the questions and if you interrupt me again." She narrowed her eyes and showed her teeth, "I will eat you, got it?"
I nodded my head furiously. Then she asked me, "What's your name?"
I frowned at her, "What?"
This time she had an annoyed hiss and said, "I know that humans have names, so don't play dumb. Now I'm going to ask you one more time, WHAT IS YOUR NAME?"
I hesitated at first, but then I answered her question, just hoping she won't get any more annoyed than she already is, "Wayne. My name's Wayne."
She cocked her head, "Wayne? Hmmm, interesting. Now I got you another question, are there knights or anything like that outside my cave?" I shook my head, and she asked me another question, "What year is it?"
I answered, "2010."
She had a curious look on her face and she asked, "How much has your world changed?"
I tried to think of an answer. Well that's a hard question to answer. I mean she asked me about knights, so perhaps she was from those times, WAY before I was born. So that makes her old, so old! But how can she be alive? I wonder.
She glared at me, "Are you being stupid again? I just asked you a question!"
I shook my head and then I answered her question with a question, "Well how much do you think has changed?"
She curled her neck again, "Really? You really want to play dumb?"
I shook my head, "I'm not playing dumb! I'm trying to stay calm, but you're making me nervous. Not to mention you're threatening me!"
She stared at me and then she let out a sigh, "You know...I haven't seen a human for a long time. And I've been in this cave for years."
Then she got on her feet and took a step toward me to get so close to me, then she lowered her head to my level and got it closer to me, "I've seen you walking in my forest, yesterday human. In fact, you're the only human I've seen in my forest so far."
I gave her a mock expression, "Your forest? I don't think it has your name on it."
Her face went wide, then she closed her eyes and just giggled. My eyes went wide as well. Wow I've just made a funny in front of her. Well at least she's not thinking about eating me.
She opened her eyes and said, "You know something? I never really thought you have some sense of humor. Guess I won't have to kill you after all."
I beamed at her, "Really? You won't eat me? Well that's great! I'm-"
That's when she snarled, "Do not think for a fact that I'm going to get soft!" I gasped and then she softened her look and said, "But like I said, I don't want to kill you now, unless you've forced me to."
I regained my composure and asked, "What are you going to do?"
She rose her head away from me and said, "I'm keeping you here, until I think I can trust you. Since I think you're just a meddling human, you might tell your kind where I live and I don't want to take that chance. In fact, every last one of your kind are killers."
I protested, "Wait, you can't keep me here! I want to go home! I won't tell anyone where you live EVER!"
She shook her head, "Sorry, but I can't let you go. Right now you're just my prisoner here, and if you want, I can just kill you right now so you won't be my prisoner. Do you want that?"
I decided not to protest any further. She's not going to let me go. So I think I need to figure out a way out of here on my own. I shook my head, "No, I don't want that."
She actually gave me a grin, "Good! Then I guess we can get along with each other for a little while." Then she whirled around, while she whirled around her tail almost hit me in the head. I ducked down before it did. That's when she looked back at me and said, "Oh by the way, I forgot. Mind the tail."
I argued with her, "How about mind it yourself, you overgrown gecko!"
She said, "I'm a dragon, not a gecko."
I shrugged, "What's the freakin difference?"
The dragon answered, "Because lizards are just cold blooded. And like you humans, I'm warm blooded. Get the picture now?"
I gaped at her. She's warm blooded? That's interesting.
The dragon turned her head to face ahead, "Follow me, I'll take you somewhere in the cave to sleep." Then she led to where I'm going to be sleeping.
I sighed. What the hell? I need to get out of here! But the problem is, that dragon is keeping me prisoner here! That's kidnapping! But I guess she wouldn't care. I followed her in the cave to where she's taking me to rest. Might as well, play along.
While I was walking I saw that she has some shelf nearby, with a lot of stuff on it, human stuff. I'll have to look at that later since I'm going to be prisoner here. Me and dragon walked past a bunch of furs that are on the floor, I'm guessing that's where she's sleeping.
She stopped when she found me a spot. She used her claw and pointed at the floor, "Here, right here where I can see you."
I looked at the spot and all that it was just the cold hard floor. I narrowed my eyes at her and said, "I'm not sleeping on the floor. There's no pillow here! The ground's hard!"
She rolled her eyes and let out a frustrated sigh, "Seriously! Do you really expect room service from a dragon? Perhaps maybe I should give you a cup of tea! Or maybe I should fluff you a pillow! Or maybe I wash your clothes like I was some maiden that some male just mated with after he had his way with her!"
My eyes went wide after all that and then I said, "You know, you're kinda selfish."
She lowered her head to my level and said, "You want selfish? Try complaining some more and see what happens."
I held out my hands to her, to calm her down, I said, "Alright, alright. I'll sleep on the damn floor."
She rose her head up, "That's what I thought." Then she went to the pile of furs and muttered, "You have a good night."
I glared at her when she walked away. Wow she's a bitch. After I saw her laying on the furs, I tried to find a comfy spot on the floor. Arrg, the floor is hard! I can't get anymore comfy than I already am, and I'm not even comfy at all!
I rolled around on the floor, well have to sleep sooner or later. Before I rolled around again, I heard the dragon's voice, "Human." I stopped and looked at her who was still on the furs.
The dragon picked up one of the furs and a pillow from the pile with one of her claws and she hobbled over to me with them and gave them to me, "Here, just out of my good conscious, I'm giving you these." She dropped the fur and the pillow in front of me.
I looked at them and then I looked up at her and smiled, "Thank you."
Her face went wide and then she narrowed her eyes at me again and whirled around slowly to go back to her bed, "Don't mention it." She got on top of the furs and laid down on them again, "Now can you sleep without tossing and turning?"
I nodded and then I grabbed the fur and the pillow and just giggled. She said she would fluff a pillow and she gave me one. I smelled it and I drew my face away. Smells like it hasn't been cleaned in a while. I sighed to myself, might as well make the best of it.
I laid the fur on the floor and then the pillow and I laid down finally. Well least it's better than the cave floor!
I laid my head on the pillow and looked at the dragon who was still watching. I turned over, not looking at her. I sighed and then I closed my eyes, trying to get some sleep.
*****
Henry Madigan was still asleep in bed and then his wife came and woke him up. She started shaking him, "Henry, Henry wake up!"
Henry woke up and groggily said, "Morning, Mary. What time is it?"
Mary his wife said, "Wayne's gone!"
Henry still filled with sleep said, "Gone? What do you mean gone?"
Mary shook him again, "I mean he's gone! I woke up this morning, I've made breakfast for you two, and when I went into his room, he's gone!"
Henry shot up in bed, with a fearful look, "What?! Wayne?"
Mary nodded, "He's gone Henry!"
Henry got out of his bed and he and Mary went to Wayne's room and they looked. Henry's face went wide and gasped. Mary's right, our son's gone!
Mary grabbed his arm and she said with a shivering tone, "What happened to our son!? He's missing!"
Henry grabbed her shoulders and gazed intently in her eyes, "Mary! Calm down! I'm sure he's alright. He's not missing, maybe he's taking a walk."
Mary shook her head, "He's never done this before! Where is he? Where is he!?"
Henry calmly said to her, "Listen Mary, lets not jump to conclusions yet. Look, lets wait for him for a little while. And when he doesn't return, we'll give him a call."
Mary just stared at him for a few seconds and then she let out a breath, "Alright. We'll wait."
Henry smiled and said, "And who knows. He's probably having a good time."
*****
I twitched in my sleep and then I opened my eyes and woke up. Then I sat up in the fur and then I realized I wasn't dreaming.
Everything that happened to me wasn't a dream after all. It really happened.
In the cave, I could hear birds chirping outside. That must mean that it's morning now.
I raised my arms and stretched. Then I looked to my left to see the dragon, but then I gasped.
The dragon's gone.
That girl dragon's not sleeping on the pile of furs. She must have left the cave while I was sleeping.
I got up on my feet and walked to the furs. Someone was definitely sleeping on them, because I can tell that she was there.
My face went wide. Wait, why did she leave? Is she letting me go? Does that mean she changed her mind and she's letting me go?
I shook my head. I don't care anymore, this could be my only chance of escaping. I have to get home. If it's morning, then mom and dad are up already.
Then my face went wide when I remembered the camera. The camera! I took the picture of the dragon before she chased me! I hope it's not broken.
I looked around for the camera and finally found it on the cave floor. I let out a whoosh of air. Good, not broken. I also found the knife and the flashlight on the floor as well. I picked them all up and put them in my pocket.
I smiled down at the camera. I don't care I need to get out now while I have the chance! I turned around and went to the mouth of the cave. The morning sun shining through the entrance. I peeked outside, no dragon anywhere. I smiled. Good now I can get out of here.
I trotted outside in the sun and I was close to the trees when suddenly I saw a big blue figure coming out of the trees. I gasped and backed away from her. Holy crap!
The dragon narrowed her eyes at me while she was walking out of the trees, "Trying to escape me, huh? Well guess what? I've caught you. I figured you would try something. Now if I were you, get back in the cave."
My face went wide. Damn it! She was waiting for me to make my move! Wow...She's good, I'll give her that.
The dragon glared again, "Quit being stupid and get in the cave."
I gasped again and then I nodded. I whirled around and went back to the cave with her walking close behind me. When me and her were close to the mouth of the cave, she said to me, "Alright and you better stay in there. I'm going to hunt for something for us to eat, and you better stay there. Or else if you escape again, I'll find you. Trust me I lived in these woods for a long time and I know every inch of them, got it?"
I turned around to gape at her and then I pleaded, "Look I won't try anything. But I won't get you into trouble, alright? Please just...Let me go."
She just stared down at me and then she used her claw to point to the cave.
I got the message and I went inside. When I went inside I looked back at her one last time and then I saw her taking flight on her wings.
My face went wide with shock and awe. Wow, just wow.
Then I kept walking in the cave.
*****
After a while, I flew back to the cave with the deer that I've hunted in my claw. That thing wasn't that heavy for a dragon like me.
I could see the cave from up in the air and then I circled around ready to make a landing. I dropped the deer to the ground it bones breaking when it hit the ground. When I got closer to the ground, I landed on my hind feet and then my front feet. My wings flapping until I stopped them.
I walked to the deer and then I used my jaws to grab it by the neck to carry it. Well here's dinner for me and the human. I know I've said to him room service before. But I guess this is the only room service I could give him.
He better be there, or else I'm gonna find him. I don't trust him enough as it is.
While I was heading to the mouth of the cave, I could hear a voice coming from inside there. My eyes went wide when I realized that the human is still in there.
Not only that but it sounds like he's singing! I dropped the deer from my jaws and then I went inside my cave home. His voice getting louder when I walked deeper in the cave. Now I can make out the words that he's singing.
"Strangers, waiting! Up and down the boulevard! Their shadows, searching in the night!"
I cocked my head while I was walking. What the hell is he singing about? I kept walking until I could see him around the corner. He's sitting on my furs singing. My face went wide, those are my freakin furs!
He sang, "Streetlights, people! Livin' just to find emotion! Hidin' somewhere in the night!!!!"
His voice became so loud, it echoed in the cave. I closed my eyes and gritted my jaws. Gods in heaven, he's louder than me! I hope I'm not regretting this already.
When he was done singing I walked to him from around the corner. He saw me and stopped singing. He just stared plainly at me. Good he better keep his mouth shut.
I stood in front of him and asked, "What are you doing?"
He answered, "Just...Singing."
I shot up my head, "Hmph! Well you're pretty loud for a human. I can hear you from outside."
His eyes went wide and then he said, "Ah, sorry about that. I didn't realize that I was that loud."
I waved my paw at him, and then glared at him, "Actually my better question is, what are you doing laying on my furs?"
He stood up on his feet and got off of them, "Sorry, but I was getting tired of sitting on just one fur. I mean if I was going to be staying here for...God knows how long. Then I might as well make myself comfortable."
I angrily said to him, "Do you think it's a game to you? Huh? Do you think I'm joking? Do you think that everything's a joke to you that you could just do whatever you want?!"
He raised his arms in defense, "Now hold on there scaly. You weren't using them while you were gone. So..." Then he smiled, "Might as well keep your spot warm for you."
I slammed my paw in the ground. He yelped by the sudden earth shake. I still glared at him and said, "I'm not in the mood for games now, human. Now I have dinner, so stay right here." I turned around and left him.
I brought the deer in my jaws and brought it inside the cave. When I got it to where the human was I dropped it in front of him.
He made a face when he saw the dead deer, "Yuck!" Then he smelled it and then he put both hands to his nose, "God that's disgusting."
I made a mock expression, "What? Not good enough for room service?"
He shook his head while he had his hands to his nose, "It really stinks."
I cocked my head. Are you kidding me? That thing doesn't stink! I smelled the deer and scrunched up my nose. Ok, maybe it does stink. But I'm hungry anyways. I used my claws to tear out the leg and then I dropped the leg in front of him.
The human was disgusted by it and then he said, "Oh good lord. It's a...Deer leg!" He closed his mouth, and put his hands to his mouth, like he was about to puke.
I narrowed my eyes at him, "You better not puke in my cave human. Or else I'll make you clean it up."
He looked up at me and said, "Sorry, it's just...It's the sight of seeing all the blood, it's just enough to make anyone sick."
I grinned at him, "Make you sick perhaps. But I won't."
He glared at me, "That's what I've figured. You hunt things like this all the time."
That's when I said, "Exactly and dinner is served. So eat."
He gave me a look, "What?"
I only said, "Eat."
He looked at the deer leg and shook his head, "No. I don't want to eat that! It's raw!"
I urged him again, "EAT IT. You wanna let it go to waste?"
He glared and shouted at me, "Fuck you!"
I glared back at him and then I sighed. Well this isn't going to work. But I did forget that they don't eat everything raw like we do. Of course sometimes I do cook my food with my fire. But usually I eat the food raw.
Finally I caved in and said to him, "Fine. Then I'll get you some firewood. You wait here. And please don't try to run off again. Because I'm not in the mood to chase you down."
He shrugged, "Where am I going to go? I can't leave the cave anyways. Hell I didn't leave when you left me here. So do you not trust me yet?"
I glared at him, "Don't push it human. Now wait here." Then I left him alone and went out of the cave to get firewood.
*****
I bit off the meat of the deer leg, savoring in the taste. Well at least it doesn't taste bad as I thought it would. As cooked!
The dragon came back about twenty minutes after she went to get the firewood. She did come back with firewood and dropped it all on the floor. I would have asked her to let us eat outside, but she said no, so she started the fire in here. In the cave.
Basically here's how she started the fire. You see when I was gathering the firewood in a circle, she told me to back away from her and then with a big surprise, she breathed fire out of her mouth!
While I was watching her do her work, I gasped in shock and awe. I never even seen anything like it before. Mom and dad wouldn't believe it until they see it!
When I bit down on the meat, my thoughts went to mom and dad. God I must have been gone most of the day. I hope they don't look for me in the woods. Who knows what the dragon might do.
The dragon sat in front of me across the fire, eating her share of the food. She really loves to eat the meat! So much blood is on her mouth.
I shook my head, trying to stir myself away from the image. God, how can she eat something like that in front of me?
The dragon took another bite from the meat and then saw my face after I looked at her. She said, "Let me guess. You don't like all the blood."
I winced when she mentioned blood. Then I looked at her and said, "It just looks really gross."
The dragon giggled, "Well what do you expect? Me using napkins to wash the blood off of my face? No, usually when it comes to cleaning after eating, I usually go to the lake outside and clean myself up."
I giggled as well, "Well at least you have good hygiene."
The dragon cocked her head, "So...How's the meat, human? I don't suppose that you're satisfied now?"
I nodded, "It's good. I liked cooked food."
She grinned, "Good. And you can thank my fire for that, human."
I laughed and then I looked at her and said, "You know what? You can stop calling me human. It's really getting old. I did tell you my name you know. It's Wayne."
The dragon shook her head, "I'll be honest, I didn't really care about your name. In fact all of you humans look the same to me."
I gave her a pity look, "You really don't like my kind, do you?"
The dragon closed her eyes, "I try not to. But it's just that your kind hates me. And I've never done anything wrong to you. It's your kind who starts it."
I hummed and then I said, "Yeah, especially when I wondered in your cave while you were sleeping. I have to say I think I kinda regret it."
She giggled, "Why? Don't like living in a cave with a lonely dragon like me?"
I smiled and shrugged, "Well...Seems okay so far."
She smiled, "Good. Better be that way." She went back to eating again.
I stared at her. Hmmm, now that I think about it, do dragons have names? Is she the only dragon in the world? Maybe I should ask her. I asked, "Hey, can I ask you a question?"
She didn't look at me while she was eating, but she did hear me, "What?"
I asked, "Do you...Have a name?"
She stopped and then she looked at me with a frown, "Why?"
I shrugged, "No reason. Just curious. I mean, I've told you my name, but you haven't told me yours yet. I mean, do dragons even have names? Actually now that I really think about it, are there...More of you? Are there other dragons like you?"
The dragon looked like her jaw was dropped, like she didn't expect questions like that. Then she said, "You really are rather curious, are you?"
I shrugged again, "Well I'm stuck here, so I might as well know your name. So what is it? Do you have one?"
The dragon narrowed her eyes at me and said, "To answer your question if there are other dragons like me. Yes. But I haven't been with my kind for years."
I tilted my head, "Why?"
She didn't say anything. It looked like she was lost in her own thoughts.
I changed the subject, "Ok, well if you won't answer that. Then at least tell me your name."
The dragon then said, "To answer your other question if my kind ever had names. As a matter of fact, yes. I do have a name."
I beamed at her, "Really? What is it?"
She growled at me, "You couldn't possibly pronounce it with your tongue."
I only stared at her, "Why? Is it really that hard?"
She nodded, "Trust me, it's hard."
I looked down at the ground, "Oh."
Then the dragon said, "But I guess I can tell you a name that someone gave to me years ago."
I looked up at her, "Huh? You mean?"
She smiled at me, "Yes, I can tell you my name. Just not the name I was born with. The one that's hard to pronounce."
I gestured to her, "Yeah?"
She put a paw to her chest and said, "It's Sierra. My name's Sierra."
I gazed at her, "Sierra? That sounds like a human name."
She rolled her eyes, "Well I guess it's better than the one I was born with. The one who gave me that name couldn't pronounce it at all!"
I laughed and then another question came into mind, "Who? Who gave you that name?"
She looked down at the ground with a look of sorrow, "Someone that I've used to know. Someone who became my best friend."
I tilted my head, "Sierra?"
She looked at me, surprised that I've said her name, "....Yes?" I got up on my feet and walked to where she was at. Her face was getting suspicious, "What are you doing Wayne?"
I reached out to touch her, "Can I...Can I touch you?"
She flinched away from my hand, "Why?"
I lowered my hand and said, "No reason. Well actually, I'm curious about what you feel like. I mean it's obvious you have scales all over you. So I'm wondering if I can touch you? Just this once?"
Sierra narrowed her eyes at me and then she let out a sigh and softened her look, "Fine. Get it over with."
I asked, "Can I at least touch your face?"
Her face went wide and then she said, "I guess. If you want." Then she lowered her head to my level, to where I can reach it.
I raised my hand to touch her face. I touched her nose first, it appears to be soft. Her nose twitched when I touched it. Guess it's sensitive. I reached up further to touch her horns. Yikes! They feel strong and hard! I tugged one of them a bit and Sierra hissed at me. Then when I let her go, she raised her head out of my reach, she said, "Content?"
I asked her, "Can I see your feet?"
Sierra didn't argue and she raised one of her paws and held it out to me to let me get a good look at it. I reached out to examine it. Judging by the looks of it, it look more than just a paw. Most creatures have four fingers, but Sierra has five. The fifth finger looks like an opposable thumb to me. I guess that's why she can get a good grip on things. Like last night she picked up the fur and the pillow and gave it to me.
She pulled her paw away and said, "Almost done?"
I nodded, "Almost. Can I touch your wings?"
She lowered her body and stretched out one of her wings to the ground. I walked to her body and before I touch one of her wings, I just touched her body. Wow, she wasn't kidding that she's warm blooded! Her scales feel warm and not to mention they don't feel rough either. In fact the scales feel soft to me.
When I was done with touching her scales, I reached for one of her wings and touched it. The wing membrane felt softer than the scales. It felt like it was made of leather than anything. Even warmer as well! Pretty much feel good if she wrapped her wings around her body. Just to keep herself warm. When I was done, she lifted her wing to her back and folded it against her back.
Then she turned her head to look me standing beside her and she said, "Feel better? You done poking and prodding me?"
I laughed, "Oh god, dragon. You kinda crack me up."
She grinned at me, "Sometimes I crack myself up as well." Then we both laughed.
I looked at her and thought to myself. Maybe she's not so bad after all. But I'm still thinking about mom and dad. They're probably worried about me. I went to touch her face again and then I started rubbing her chin.
Sierra looked at me while I was close to her face and said, "Something on your mind?"
I looked at her and said, "Well...I was thinking. Maybe the reason why you didn't kill me before is...I think it's because you became friends with a human before. That you've actually talked to him or her. And you have been with the human for a long time and that human gave you the name, Sierra. Is...Is that right?"
When I mentioned it, it looked like she had pain shone in her eyes and she turned her head away from me, "You...You can say that."
I felt some sort of pity for her. I never figured it, until now. I wonder, what happened to that human? But I think now it's best not to press her about it. It looks too personal.
I backed away from her and then I saw the shelf that I came across with this morning. The one with all the human stuff. I walked to that shelf away from Sierra and took my time to look at all the stuff.
My eyes went wide. I wonder why she has all that stuff? I mean I can understand all the furs in here. I mean most of them are soft! I saw several books on the shelf, why does she have books? Does she know how to read? I'll have to ask her sometime. A grail of some sort, judging by the way it looks, it looks like it was made from a long time ago. I even saw a sword on the shelf.
I picked up the sword with both hands and examined it. That thing feels a bit heavy, but I can manage. I examined it closely and saw that there is very dry blood and it's faded away into the blade. Wonder why she has that?
Sierra came up behind me and saw the sword in my hand. She sat down on her haunches behind me and said, "Someone tried to kill me with that."
I turned around and looked at her, the sword still in my hands, "Who?"
She answered, "A dragon slayer, years ago. They are always relentless when it comes to hunting down my kind."
I looked at the sword, feeling guilty for bringing up those memories to her, "I'm sorry."
Sierra shook her head and said, "It was a long time ago. It's not your fault."
I put my hand behind my head so I can scratch it, "I'll tell you the truth. I feel kinda terrible about you now. I mean, I just don't know what to say."
She shook her head again, "You don't have to say anything."
I smiled at her and then I turned to face the shelf, so I can put down the sword. Then something else caught my eye, a crystal pendant sits on the shelf as well. I picked it up and held it in my hand.
Sierra saw it and gasped, "Don't touch that!"
I gasped and looked at her, "What is it?"
Then she held out her paw, "Please Wayne, give it to me."
I stared at her, but I didn't argue with her. I put the pendant on her paw and then she hobbled away from me. I watched her walk away and said, "Sierra, wait I'm sorry."
She stopped and I thought I heard a sob coming from her. She looked back at me and said, "Wayne...I really need to be alone." Then she looked ahead and went to go outside alone.
While I was alone in the cave, I put my hand to my mouth, realizing what's going on.
Something must have happened to her years ago. And I think that's why she's sad.
But what could have happened?
*****
I woke up in the middle of the night in the cave, just staring up at the ceiling. I'm still thinking about my mom and dad.
I'm really happy that the dragon didn't kill me in the first place, cause she didn't. But I don't belong here. I know she doesn't trust me that much, but I have to get home.
I turned over to look at Sierra, who is sleeping peacefully on her furs. Well maybe she'll understand. I mean I can't just ask her for permission to leave. I'll just leave now, she probably understand that I don't belong here. I would feel bad for leaving her here alone, but maybe I can visit her sometime.
Lets hope she doesn't get angry and throw a temper tantrum!
That's it, I'm going home. I can't stay here forever.
I slowly got up from the fur that's on the floor and then I picked up the camera that I still have and then I tiptoed slowly out of here.
*****
I stirred myself awake, feeling thirsty and then I woke up with a yawn. I shook my head trying to shake the sleep off of me.
When I got up on my feet and opened my eyes I saw that Wayne has disappeared from his spot.
I gasped and then I put on a glare. That bastard! He was lying to me all along, about how he feels about me! He used my feelings against me! Well I'm going to put an end to that right now!
I growled and took fast strides to go after my prisoner. I have to stop him before he tells the other humans where I live! I won't let him kill me, I won't!
I walked fast outside in the moonlight, and then I saw that the human wasn't too far away from me! There you are you little shit!
I walked through the trees to get to him and finally in a clearing I stopped right in front of him. He gasped when he saw me.
Wayne's face went wide, "Sierra? Hi, uh...What's up?"
I glared down at him, "I could ask you the same thing. What do you think you're doing?"
He raised his hands as if surrendering, "I was just...Ok look, I just wanted to get back home, I don't belong here!"
I growled at him, "I knew it. I never should have trusted you. You were just playing along with my feelings to trick me. I should have NOT let my guard down!"
Wayne shook his head furiously, "No! That's not what I'm doing at all!"
I shot back, "You're a liar! You were planning to tell your dragon slayer friends, so you and your friends would kill me in my sleep! All of you are exactly alike! You LIE and CHEAT!"
He shouted, "No, you're wrong! I'm not like that!"
I hissed, having the sudden urge to burn him alive right now, "I'm going to kill you!" I advanced toward him slowly.
Wayne's face went wide and he protested, "Wait! You don't have to do this!" He started to back away from me, "Please!"
I glared furiously at him, "Enough with the bullshit, human! Do you take me for a fool!?" I didn't stop where I was at.
Suddenly Wayne pulled out some kind of weapon and then held it out in a threatening way, "Stop!" It looked like some kind of little dagger of some sort.
I hissed in anger, "So now you reveal your true colors. What took you so long?"
He said to me in a desperate way, "Look Sierra, I'm not who you think I am. But if you don't stop this, I will use this on you! So don't push me!"
I gave him the biggest roar I could muster and then he fell down on the ground. He looked up when I was done roaring and started to scoot away from me. Until he backed into a tree.
I sneered at him, "Give up now, human?!"
Wayne looked up at me with tears in his eyes, "No please, Sierra....Don't kill me! I'm begging you, please don't kill me!"
I shot at him, "You don't tell me what to do!" Then I raised my head, getting ready to blow fire at him. A little bit of steam coming out of my mouth.
He shook his head and protested again, "No! Please don't kill me! Please! Don't do it!" Then he ducked low to the ground with his hands on top of his head.
I was getting ready to blow fire at him, when suddenly my face went wide when something happened. In Wayne's place there's no Wayne, but a different male human with a pleading look. It was someone that I've met years ago.
He looked up at me with a sad face, pleading, "Don't kill me! Please!" Then my vision showed Wayne again, who is still ducked low to the ground.
My face went wide and I backed away from him. No....What have I done? What was I about to do? I whirled around and turned my back on him.
*****
I was still on the ground with my hands on top of my head. Why didn't she do it? I thought she was going to kill me.
I looked up and then my face went wide. Sierra has turned her back on me. Why?
I got up on my feet and then I slowly walked in front of her. She had her eyes closed tight. What happened to her?
I said to her, "Sierra?"
She opened her eyes, she had some kind of sad and guilty look on her face, and then she got serious and said, "Wayne. I want you to go with me."
My eyes went wide and then I backed away from her, "What are you talking about? I thought you were trying to kill me."
She shook her head with a glare, "I will not let you go. In fact I can't trust you now, in fact you've never should have tried to escape from me again. This is twice now and I can't take the chance again."
I was about to protest when she waved her paw at me, "I'm not going to kill you. But I just don't trust you now to be here with me. I need to take you someplace where there are no other humans around. Where you'll never warn other humans about me. The only place where you'll never get help from your kind."
I said, "What are you implying?"
That's when she said, "We're going home, back to where I belong. Where my kind belongs. And you'll be my minion, in front of my kinds eyes. I will treat you like one and you will treat me like I'm your master. They wouldn't trust a defiant human, they would go easy on you when I'm treating you like you're my minion. Until I say otherwise, I won't let you go home. Until I'm sure that I can trust you."
I protested, "What!? I can't go with you! I don't belong with your kind! I'm not who you think I am! You can trust me!"
She shouted at me, "Then prove it! Prove to me that I can trust you! Because if you won't, then I'll never let you go home."
I just stood there, my mouth agape. No...I can't go away and pretend that I'm her minion. It's...Wrong! But she tried to kill me and if I refused again she might try to kill me again.
Well I have gotten along with her before I tried to go back home. So maybe I can at least trust her. I mean she would defend for me against her kind if they try anything to hurt me.
This is just a test. I don't know how long I'll be gone, but at least I'll live!
I looked into her eyes and sighed, "Alright, Sierra. I'll go."
She nodded and said, "Ok, then let me get a couple of things and then we'll go."
I nodded and then we both started to head back to the cave.
I looked back into the woods, thinking about mom and dad. I felt tears starting to form. I remember before I went in the woods to find Sierra, on the night before I left my house. I thought about saying goodbye to them, but I couldn't.
Now this is really goodbye, I might never see them again.
*****
After Sierra got some things packed, me and her are outside the cave.
You see how she got some of her things packed, is that she has this shoulder bag of some sort, made for a dragon to wear.
I was impressed by the looks of it, that bag really fits on her shoulder.
Sierra asked, "You ready?"
I nodded and then I asked her, "So where are we going, really? I mean...Where?"
Sierra said, "We're heading to the mountains that are far from here. That's where my kind belongs."
I nodded and then I said, "Well...I guess I'm going to ride on your back."
I was about to try to climb on her back when Sierra said, "No, I'm going to carry you in my paws all the way there. I'm not taking any chances of you riding on my back."
I gave her a mock stare, "Are you kidding me? What do you think I'll do? Jump off your back while you're flying?"
She narrowed her eyes at me, "That's not a chance worth taking."
I sighed and then I said, "Fine, I'll let you carry me there."
Then she sat down on her haunches and then she picked me up with her paws, I yelped in surprise. Oh boy, I'm going to be up in the air with a dragon before long.
I'm so freakin nervous.
Sierra tightened her grip around me and looked down at me and said, "Ready?"
I shrugged while I was in her paws, "As ready as I'll ever be."
She nodded and then I could hear her wings flapping. Suddenly I could see and feel that we're off the ground. My eyes went wide. Holy shit, we're about to fly!
She flapped her wings until we were over the woods. We're so high now.
Sierra hollered, "Hang on, human!" Then with a burst of speed and wind, she flew fast over the forest. Her wings flapping hard.
I screamed really loud, "AHHHHHHH!"
After I was done screaming and I was starting to get used to being carried by a dragon. Ilooked down at the woods for the last time and silently said, "Goodbye mom. Goodbye dad."
We were flying high in the air, heading to our destination.
