ANNIHALATION
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
“The effect of this cannot be understood without being there. The beauty of it cannot be understood, either, and when you see beauty in desolation it changes something inside you. Desolation tries to colonize you.”
? Jeff VanderMeer, Annihilation
I read Jeff VanderMeer's Annihilation a while ago, and I haven't had a book or any piece of media hit me as hard as this book did in a while. It is Lovecraftian cosmic horror as pure as it gets, but there's something more here, something about the narration and narrator that makes it a much more personal experience; it makes the annihilation that much more impactful; you really do get to feel it under your skin.
There's also the movie adaptation, which is its own beast, really different from the novel, but what it does best is translate that cosmic horror into the visual medium. So I borrowed some of the visuals from the movie to make this thing.
If this looks and sounds any interesting to you, I can't recommend this book enough; it reads like a myth never meant to be uncovered. And I just found out that this is actually the first part of a trilogy, with a fourth entry coming this year, so I don't think there's a better time to get into the series than now.
