Somehow, Axel's consciousness returned to them under the deep sea. Did the gods above spare their life after their kindness lead to a heartbreaking betrayal?
The silver haired human tried looking around to get a feel for their surroundings but their eyes could barely focus from all the water. But below them looks like… sand? Dirt? Either way, their hope that the occurrence was nothing but a batshit insane nightmare were dashed.
“Dang, I was really hoping that didn't actually happen…"
Axel shook their head and began struggling to get back up. The first thing they noticed was their lower body wasn't really cooperating with them, specifically their legs not wanting to work with them on getting up. Every attempt at budging had made no progress. Almost as if they were stuck together… or worse.
Now that they think about it… Their vision was also getting clearer, as if they've fully adjusted to being underwater.
“If this is not a dream… a-and I'm still alive… then…“
Axel frantically looked down to see their arms were free and moveable, then began feeling themselves with the same panic. Only instead of feeling the soft human skin of their legs, they felt… Scales? Moving their lower body muscles forward only seemed to confirm what they suspected and feared. Golden scales and a golden tail
“M-My legs?! Where did they–?! Oh no… What happened to me?!" They cried in despair and confusion, so many questions to ask but no one around to answ-
“I changed my mind, human."
A familiar voice replied back. That bastard…
“You…! What the hell is the meaning of this?!" Axel roared, charging straight towards the source of the voice with fury in their eyes; that pink haired merman.
But Roy, the ever charming bastard of a siren, simply swam to the side to avoid the bull headed merfolk pouncing on them, a sly smirk on his face only serving to infuriate Axel.
“Didn't think the transformation would make you deaf as well but if I must repeat myself then I shall. I changed my mind."
Transformation… So that's what happened.
“As much as it would be fun killing and devouring you like I do with other humans, I must confess that I've been… so, so lonely after my family left. I hope you don't mind me sparing you from a… let's say, unpleasant demise by my hands~."
Axel only really stared at him, an unreadable expression, unsure of what to think or say. Which meant Roy was free to continue.
"I know you have so many questions, like 'Oh, Roy, why did you betray me?!' or 'Why are you so handsome and beautiful?!'. But I think keeping you in suspense is much, much more amusing and fun~. Now, come along. I would like to show you my home under the sea."
The majestic pink-haired merman began his swim, only to be stopped when Axel understandably stood back with their arms crossed and their expression much more skeptical and angry.
“...Why should I trust you after what you've done to me."
Roy chuckled at Axel's response, only angering them more, “Well. Your alternative is being forced to fend for yourself in the harsh, unforgiving seas. Unable to even properly fend for yourself against a hungry shark or a hunter's net. And you don't seem like the fighting type, am I correct?"
Shit, Roy was right on the money. If there's one thing Axel feared was getting into a physical altercation and having to end another's life. But around the bastard who betrayed their kindness and open mind about merfolk? That restraint and fear was almost gone.
“Fine. But don't think for a single second that I forgive you or that I have to like you."
“Wonderful, I'm glad we could come to an amicable conclusion, human~. Now, let's be off, before the other sea creatures spot your helpless state and consume you."
“I heard you the first time, you prick! My ears work just fine!"
