Hueroc/Ellora: Food For the Little Ones (Collaboration)
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
Hey again! Been a while since I last had one of these to upload, but their story is moving on. ^^ Anyway, here's my story to go with Fortuna's picture:
Hueroc sighted his prey and dropped out of the sky nearly like a stone, scanning the ground and his path to it on his way down and making minor adjustments with his wings and tail as he fell, aiming, compensating for wind and prey movement, and all the while getting closer and closer to his targets... Then finally he was low enough, flared his wings and rocketed forward, skimming the ground, swooping right over the edge of the herd of deer to pluck up the prey he'd chosen. Forepaw, forepaw, mouth closed on flesh and squeezed to make sure the deer were caught, and he was back up into the sky almost before the ambushed herd could react.
His three catches were shrieking and thrashing in his grip, and after shaving off some speed he set down to dispatch them, to be sure they wouldn't squirm so much for him to drop them while he flew back to the cave. His stomach growled at the smell of blood, but he couldn't eat here--he wasn't just hunting for himself, which was why he'd taken so many. He was also hunting for Ellora... and for the eggs growing in her belly.
Once his kills were ready, he picked them back up, clutching them all against his chest this time instead of holding one uncomfortably in his mouth, and with a little difficulty went airborne once again, gaining altitude against the added weight and heading back to Ellora's cave, his cave, where she would lay and they would raise the eggs they'd made together... The thought made him smile and purr as he returned to her, loaded down with the prey to feed her and the forming clutch.
The flight was tiring, but of course it was worth it, especially when he set down at the cave entrance and looked inside to see Ellora lying there, sprawled on her side, watching the sky outside, her tail swishing, her swollen belly in full view... Rumbling proudly, he walked in on his hind legs, taking care to keep his balance, and set down the prey before her: two for her and the eggs, and one for him.
"What a fine catch, my love," she purred back at him, sniffing at the prey, and nosing at his shoulder for only a moment before digging in.
"Thank you," he mumbled around a mouthful of his own, and the two of them worked their way through the carcasses. He had less to eat, but she ate more ravenously, so they still finished around the same time, and when they did he leaned across the remains of their meal to lick her snout and neck clean, purring and nuzzling her all the while.
"That was delicious... exactly what the eggs and I needed," she groaned, stretching her paws and tail but not rising; her pregnancy was advanced enough now that she could barely fly, and walking or even standing for more than a little while was difficult for her.
"Only the best I can find for my mate and our eggs," he purred back, pleased, and finished washing her before pushing the remains outside, to deal with later, and licking his own scales. Once he was done he snuggled against her with a happy murmur, nuzzling at her neck, then her shoulder, then down her side until he reached that egg-heavy belly of hers. She chuckled softly when she felt him there, and he cradled the area with his forepaw while he nosed at her.
"Our eggs... forming and growing..."
"And soon they'll be ready to lay... I'm sure they'll be beautiful."
"With a mother like you... of course they will be," he smiled, and snuggled closer, then swung his snout over to nuzzle her cheek, giving her snout a little nibble. "A beautiful mother for beautiful eggs, and beautiful hatchlings..."
"And they will be cute, and proud, and handsome, like their father," she nuzzled back, her tail curling around his and squeezing. "And quite a paw-full to raise, too, I imagine."
"They wouldn't be hatchlings otherwise," he chuckled. "Everyone loves a hatchling who is adventurous, inquisitive, always full of energy to explore and discover new things..."
She wriggled against him. "Yes... I look forward to seeing the eggs, and seeing them hatch," she nudged him with her forehead.
"As do I, my love," he said, softly, cradling her head with his own snout and neck and purring for her... both of them looking forward to those new little lives they would soon be bringing into the world.
