Making Her Entrance by Danji-Isthmus (Commission)
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
This commission was drawn by danji-isthmus! You can find it on their twitter here. Wanted to play a bit more of Adhara being dual-formed in a cleaner setting this time, so I got this cool-looking art, and wrote a tiny bit as well c:
Of course Adhara's was one of the last cars in the garage, after that little concert went so late. The people lurking nearby? Not quite so expected, and her steps slowed as she took in the situation. They weren't anyone she knew, which meant this wasn't anything fun, no matter how they grinned when they saw she'd noticed them. She felt movement near her tail: someone else lurked behind her, cutting off her path back to the sidewalk. "Going somewhere, little lady?" he said, his voice far too friendly for whatever these folks meant.
She had a split second to make a decision: at least five of them who she could see, and just the one of her. Space. I need space. The garage interior wouldn't cut it--the structure was too low. Getting back to the street would be risky, too, having to go through the stout-looking bovine behind her, but maybe... Adhara's long tail still trailed behind her, helping her feel him moving still closer; but he didn't expect to be whacked by such a heavy limb, and a sturdy thump gave her enough of a gap to dash for the stairs.
She made it a few steps before any of them did, and she tore up them, tail swinging as a counterweight at each turn, her claws scratching on the concrete as she ran up and up and up. 4 flights, but she made it up without them gaining on her, not that she'd really hoped to get away from them that way--instead what she'd wanted was this, the top level of the garage, open to the sky and empty of cars. Lights ringed the edge, with an expanse of painted concrete broken only by the ramp for cars to drive up from the level below, and she slowed as she neared the center: they'd split up, smartly, half of them going for the stairwell at the other corner, which put three in front of her, and four behind.
"Pretty quick," one panted, "but nowhere else to run."
That was fine.
Adhara stopped, closed her eyes, took a deep breath. Tense as she was, it took hardly a moment's effort: as soon as she even thought to open her mind, the power rushed in. At once she felt the wings rising from her back, the lights washing out the faint blue glow of power as her true form took form above her, wreathed in smoke; a thrill went through her when she heard their surprise and realized the tables had been turned. Eager strength rushed through her, and the concrete decking beneath her shook as an increasingly solid forepaw slammed down next to her, a growl deeper and louder than her normal voice rattling the air in warning before the smoke swallowed her up. For an instant she saw the men before her through doubled vision, from both a normal woman's perspective and from a vantage point far higher off the ground, and then after a moment of vertigo and a flash of light Adhara the woman was gone.
Adhara the dragon roared.
The part of her that had fled to the roof felt relief when she saw her assailants had already turned to run before she'd even finished her transformation; the rest of her grew only more furious when she saw her quarries escaping. Lunging forward, she dashed across the roof in pursuit, but they gained the door a few lengths ahead of her and she was far too large to fit more than a searching forepaw into the stairwell after them and she could only roar again in frustration, denied the revenge she'd sought.
It took Adhara a few moments to recover herself, her true shape having come in really raring to go in such a tense and unexpected situation, and she at last managed to scoot back from the door, straightening up, taking a few deep breaths, letting the steady thump of that great heart calm her down. Close, but wisely all seven of them had made themselves scarce, and now she had the garage to herself. Phew. Her tail lashed grumpily; the other half of her mind was not satisfied by having merely chased them off, but it would have to do. At least she could probably squeeze herself down the ramps to her car in this form... No sense taking chances, and perhaps a little stomping around would calm this massive form--at least a structure capable of supporting so many cars at once could also be counted on to support the weight of a dragon.
Who knows... maybe they stuck around. Her teeth bared and she growled again, and though her wings flexed and stretch, she didn't take the faster route down to the street. Best to just let the fools run from a dragon.
