The Hive Birds
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
I present to you: The Hive Birds! Little robot things designed to keep order in the wilderness and to maintain the ecosystem in check without disturbing it.
I got this idea while doing some anatomy studies, and as I sketched these guys out, I pieced together a bit of their context:
I got this idea while doing some anatomy studies, and as I sketched these guys out, I pieced together a bit of their context:
In the future, 10 years from now or so, advancements in AI and robotics have led to the development of humanoid robot assistants designed to take on some of the most repetitive tasks in human work environments. These robot assistants would end up getting a bad reception among the general public for several reasons: They would get too close to the uncanny valley; their primitive pneumatic muscles were known to fail and blow up; they looked like body builders because of the pneumatic muscles and lack of fat; and the price was too great for something that didn't really bring a lot of value to their intended demographic. So the technology advanced quietly as the excitement for these automatons faded.
Eventually, a northern European country would contract one of these automaton manufacturers to develop an artificial animal that could monitor their wilderness without disturbing it, putting great emphasis on their appearance and low cost. So with these goals and a great budget to work with, engineers, designers, manufacturers, product designers, and concept artists would work together to come up with the design, something that, for some reason, hasn't been done before with the design of any other automaton. The end result would be the HB-20, or "Hive bird."
Their eventual introduction to national parks would be backed by a great promotional campaign to familiarize the general public with these little automatons, depicting them as simple robots whose only purpose is to help. Unlike their humanoid predecessors, the HB-20 robots were met with a positive reception, soon spreading to several other nations and organizations and becoming one of the most recognized automatons out there.
So that's what I've figured out so far. I'll go over the details of their functionality and application later.
