Just a sketched concept for some dog-warrior gear. The pommel would most likely be made of gold- you wouldn't use lead on something around your mouth, but it needs to be heavy enough to counter the weight of the blade on the other side and make the weapon balanced. The curved face plate obviously isn't going to be thick enough to help if someone comes at you with an axe or spiked mace or something, but in swordVSsword it will deflect their blade- it is essentially a modified handguard with slits to look out of. It only covers the half of the face that will be turned to his opponent when attacking, so the other side and his nose are still open to see and smell normally. A dog's chest points down, so the forward facing area is still just neck- soft and not somewhere a dog wants to get hit in by literally anything- so the narrow but sturdy plate hangs there from his collar to shield it from harm without interrupting his movement in any way. Having the handle made of bone lets him dig his teeth in and really grip it tight when needed without hurting his fangs- and can be easily swapped out for another when one wears out and starts to splinter.
