I groaned when the heat and the sunlight hit the tent pretty hard. I raised my head from my pillow and yawned. God morning already? Man the nights here go by real fast. I looked to see if Jade's sleeping at the bottom of my bed, but then I see she's gone.
I gasped. Oh no, where did she go? I got up from bed, panicking. I walked to the other side of the bed when I almost ran her over. "Ow!" Actually I just did. My foot ran into her and it hurt. Jade yelped as well and got up on all fours. Then she glared at me.
"Casper, what'd you do that for?"
I looked at her, still rubbing my foot. "Me? It was your fault that you were sleeping on the ground. I ran you over!"
Jade realized what she'd done with a wide look, and then she said, "Oops, sorry."
I waved her off, "No, it's alright. I thought you left and I panicked. Tried searching franticly for you and then I ran you over. So it was my fault."
She giggled, "You were really worried about me? You thought I'd left you?"
"I didn't want you to get hurt. Remember, you're taking a big risk staying here. Nobody knows about you, except for me."
Jade shrugged her shoulders, "Hey, that's the best part about it. It's just me and you all alone."
My eyes went wide and then I grinned, "That's a weird way of putting it girl."
She giggled again, "Oh whatever, I'm just glad I'm away from my father." She let out a big yawn.
I giggled at the way she yawned. Then she looked at me when I giggled. She cocked her head, "What?"
I shook my head, "Oh nothing, it was just funny the way you yawned, the way your tongue curled. It was cute in a way."
She laughed, "Well maybe I should giggle at the way you yawn human." Then she let out a big long stretch, her claws clawing at the ground.
I stretched and yawned as well, "Well this has been a productive morning."
Then I heard Jade's stomach growling. And judging by the way her eyes looked, she heard it as well.
She smiled sheepishly, "I...I think it was my stomach."
I laughed hard, "So I've heard."
Then she said, "I need to go hunting, I'm really hungry."
I stopped her before she could leave, "No wait, I have an idea. Why don't I get you some food? After all my kind does eat."
She cocked her head, "You don't have to Casper, I can just leave and-"
"No Jade it's already too late to leave now. It's day now and everyone is probably outside by now."
Jade whined.
I shushed her, "Don't worry ok? I'll feed you. You just have to give me some time."
She stopped whining and nodded, "Ok, but what are you getting me? Zebra? Antelope? Gazelle? Oh god I'm so freakin hungry!"
I put both my hands on her mouth to shut it, "Shhh, be quiet Jade. You're going to draw attention to us." Then I let go of her jaws.
Jade giggled after I let go, "Sorry, can't help it."
I sighed and shook my head and said to myself, "What am I getting myself into?"
She cocked her head, "Huh? What did you say?"
I shook my head furiously, "Oh nothing just wait here and I'll be right back as soon as I can, alright? Just don't move a muscle."
Jade whined again, "Aw, but I'll be bored!"
"Just don't move. I'll be right back." After I said that I left the tent to get the hungry lioness and me some food.
*****
I came back with food, but it wasn't totally easy. I know that lions are meat eaters, so they wouldn't eat eggs or hash browns and what not. So I got her a couple of sausage patties and some bacon. They seem to have meat qualities to it.
I left a plate of Jades food in front of her, she sniffed it, "I've never seen this before, what is it?"
I gestured the food, "That's called sausage and bacon. It's meat. Since your kind likes meat so much, I thought I get this. It seems a lot better than everything else for you."
She sniffed it again, "Hmmm, it smells good, but I don't know if I should eat it."
"Give it a chance. You'll love it trust me."
She looked at me, and said, "Oh alright." After that the hungry lioness dug right in. She pretty took a big bite out of the sausage, it didn't take her long to finish it! She licked her lips after she ate the bacon. "Mmmm, tastes pretty good."
I grinned at her, "Really? You like it?"
She nodded, "Actually, I like the sausage more than the bacon."
I laughed, "Well everyone has their favorite food."
She licked her lips again, "Yup!" Then she laughed.
Then I had a questioning look and asked, "So do you feel better now? Because if you aren't I can't get you anymore food. They ran out for today, until tomorrow morning at least."
She whined, "Aw, but the food tastes so good!"
I laughed pretty hard at that, "You really like the food, don't you?"
She nodded three times and said, "Yup, yup, and yup."
I sighed, shook my head and smiled, "What am I going to do to you?"
*****
Me and Jade peeked outside our tent, and see a few familiar faces. You see what me and her are doing is I'm trying to show her who my family and friends are from a distance.
I pointed at Walker, "Ok so that guy right there, that's Walker. He's a friend of mine, he's okay, he can be a show off though."
She said, "Ok."
I pointed at Eileen, "That female right there, that's my sister Eileen. Don't let her appearance fool you. She can be an annoying bitch sometimes. But nevertheless, I still love her."
She laughed at that, and looked at me, "That's a silly way of describing your own family."
I glanced at her, "Well you don't have to live with her." I laughed.
Jade looked at Shawna, "And who's that other female with your sister?"
I followed her gaze and pointed at Shawna, "Another friend of mine, that's Shawna."
Jade face went wide, when she looked at Shawna, "Hey I recognize her, she was with you on the day when Karone chased after you. She was the girl who was crying."
My thoughts went on that day but only for a moment, "Yeah that's her. She's been through a lot just like me."
Jade cast her eyes on the ground, "Oh, and my aunt was about to kill an innocent girl, just like trying to kill an innocent boy."
I smiled at her analogy, "Innocent huh? Do I really look innocent?"
She layed her head on my shoulder, "Yes, yes you do."
I still smiled, "Thanks." And then I went back to watching my sister and friends. They don't know that the lioness that we were trying to find the other day is right here in this very camp. I have to tell them about her. I don't want to deal with this alone anymore. Jade needs to have more human friends, and I need more opinions so that way everyone else won't think I'm crazy. The idea just came to me, it's worth a shot.
Me and Jade pulled our head back into the tent and I zipped up the opening. Then I turned to Jade and said, "Hey Jade."
She looked at me, "Yes?"
I smiled at her, staring intently at her eyes, "Well since you became friends with me, how would you feel if I introduce you to my sister and my friends. I'm sure they would like you."
Her eyes went wide, "Really you want me to talk to them? I get to see more humans who won't try to kill me?"
I laughed at her, "Yes, yes."
Then she changed her expression into a nervous expression, "Well now I just don't know about this. I feel kinda nervous actually."
I smiled at her reassuringly, "Don't be scared they really are nice. You just have to put up with my sister's nagging."
She laughed at that, "Goodness you and your sister." Then she said, "Alright, bring them here. I can't go anywhere anyways."
I nodded, "Good, I don't know how long I'll be out. It's going to take a lot of convincing to bring them here. It's not everyday that I have a talking lioness in my tent."
*****
Shawna, Walker, and Eileen all gave me a weird look. And Walker said, "Dude are you high?"
I sighed and shook my head, "You know, I figured one of you would ask me a question like that."
Eileen just smiled, "Is it really that hard to figure it out?"
I shook my head, "Nope."
Eileen said, "That's what I figured."
Shawna said, "Casper are you playing a game with us right now? You said that Jade the lioness is in your tent right now? And she spent the night with you?"
I nodded, "Yeah, she ran away from home and somehow she found me, in my own tent."
Shawna gave me a look, "Pretty odd."
I gave all of them a pleading look, "Look guys I'm not making this up. She really is here, waiting for me to come back. So can you please not waste anymore of my time? She's bored enough as it is."
Eileen took a few steps toward me and said, "So let me get this straight, Jade's in your tent waiting right now?"
"Yes."
"Your imaginary lion? Right now? Waiting for you?"
"Yes!"
Eileen sighed, "Well alright screw it. Take us to her and get it over with. You're probably dreaming of all that anyways."
I shook my head, "Somehow I doubt it." I turned my back on them going to tell Jade that they're coming.
*****
I got close to Jade's head, making sure she remembers everything I told her to do. "Ok, once they're inside the tent, and when they see you, you walk slowly towards them. Not in a threatening matter, just a calm matter."
Jade looked at me, "Ok."
"And then when they get a good look at you, you just say a simple hello to them, you understand?"
She sighed, "You what Casper? I don't understand what you're trying to prove, I can talk. Isn't that what matters?"
I nodded, "I know you can talk, but not everyone thinks so, except me. Remember that I said I never figured lions and lionesses could talk to me? Well you're talking to me, and I want you to make the introduction first, alright got it?"
Yeah and maybe they'll stop treating me like I'm crazy and start believing me for once! I'm tired of it. I sighed, but now the time has come. The introduction of my friends of two different species. I still can't wait to see the sock on my sisters smug face! This is going to be awesome!
Jade nodded after I made sure she got it, "Ok, ok, I get it already. Now let them in already!"
I nodded, I turned away from her and went to the entrance of my tent. Shawna and the others were waiting for me outside, I motioned for them to come in. Hoping I haven't drawn enough attention from everyone else in the camp.
Shawna came in first, then Eileen, and Walker last. Shawna gasped when she saw Jade in the corner. All Eileen and Walker did was bore shocked faces. Oh my god, my sisters face is priceless!
After they see her, I motioned Jade to come to us slowly. She got up on all fours and walked slowly towards us. She never took her eyes off them while she was walking. She stopped only one foot away from them
Shawna, Eileen, and Walker's faces were now drawn to me, instead of Jades. I motioned for them to look at her, they did. And then I said, "So Jade, is there something you want to say?"
Jade nodded at me and looked at my friends, she smiled and she simply said, "Hello."
I waited to see everyone's expressions to be even more shocked. But all they did was have bewildered expressions. Shawna even looked at me with a confused look and raised her hands like saying what?
I said to Jade, "Try again Jade, maybe they didn't hear you."
Shawna looked back at Jade. Then Jade tried again louder this time, "Hello."
My friends still have confused looks, and then Walker said, "Uh, what's going on?"
I asked Walker, "What? What do you mean?"
Eileen looked at me and said, "Brother she's not saying hello, now what the hell gives?"
I looked at my sis with a shocked expression on my face, "What do you mean she's not saying hello? I've heard her say hello twice now."
Eileen just shrugged, "Yeah well she's not."
I was still shocked. What? What does she mean? I know Jade said hello. I need to talk to Jade right now! I looked at Jade, "Jade, can I talk to you?"
Jade nodded, "Uh yeah sure. What's going on?"
I led Jade back to the corner, and then I whispered to her, "Jade what the hell? I thought you said hello to them."
Jade's eyes went wide, "What? Yes I did. I've said hello twice to them."
My eyes were wide with fury, "Jade, they're saying you're not saying hello. Now say hello to them."
She yapped back, "I did say hello!"
Then I motioned my hands to calm her down, "Ok, ok, lets try this again. But this time really say hello, got it?"
"I will."
I nodded, and then I went back to the others, "She said she'll try again."
Eileen only said, "Ok, then. She better say hello or I'm going to tell you this is a big waste of our time!"
She did say hello you bitch! Twice! Well I guess third time's a charm. I motioned Jade to come to them again, she did. When she sat down one foot away from them, she tried again. She smiled and said, "Hello."
Then I pointed my finger at Jade, "You hear that guys? She said hello the third time now! Surely you must have heard her this time."
Shawna looked at me and said, "Casper are you ok?"
I looked at Shawna and said, "Yes, I'm fine."
Then Eileen put her hand on my forehead and asked, "Are you okay? Nothing bothering you?"
I swiped her hand off of me, "What's wrong? Getting all sentimental now? We're not talking about me, we're talking about Jade. She said hello to you guys three freakin times, and you are all focusing on me. What the hell guys? Really?"
That's when Eileen said the words that really shocked me, "Casper, we didn't understand a word she said. All she did was let out a low roar. That was it."
My face turned pale after hearing that, "What? No way that's impossible, I really heard her talking to you guys like a human."
Shawna shook her head, "Casper...She wasn't talking like a human. She was talking like a animal."
"But, but she really was talking like a human she-"
Jade's voice broke the conversation, "Casper, I need to speak to you."
I looked at Jade, wondering what she wanted. I went to her said, "What's wrong now?"
Jade looked straight into my eyes and said, "Casper I've got something I need to tell you. Look I don't know if this means anything but...."
"What Jade? What is it?"
Jade looked at me and said, "Casper, I didn't understand what they're saying. I don't understand what they are saying just like I understand what you're saying. They're different than you are!"
My eyes went wide. What? No way, I'm going to let Shawna say one word to her right now. This is bullshit! I looked at Shawna and said, "Shawna say hello to Jade right now."
Shawna looked confused, "Why?"
I raised my voice, "Just do it!"
Shawna then nodded, and looked at Jade and simply said, "Hello, Jade."
I then looked at Jade for an answer, and then Jade looked at me and said, "No, I didn't understand what she said."
My face went more paler than before. What?! No way! I've heard her talking like a human! She's standing right here. Jade said hello to them, but they don't understand what she's saying. Now Jade's telling me that she doesn't understand whatever words my friends are saying like she understands mine! WHAT THE HELL'S HAPPENING TO ME?
