\n\n
\n\n I wake up the following morning, not having had much sleep to start with, I begin to shiver uncontrollably as the memory of what happened the previous day comes back to haunt me, suddenly I'm brought back to the here and now as mom knocks my bedroom door.
\n\n
\n\n "Honey, it's me can I come in?"
\n\n
\n\n I get up from my bed and open the door to my room, mom slowly walks in and I can already see a look of steely determination on her face.
\n\n
\n\n "Ok Mike, get yourself showered and dressed and then I will make you some breakfast, and then I will take you to school. We will see if this guy is anywhere to be seen and then we will go and see the head teacher"
\n\n
\n\n Again I begin to shiver as I think about seeing the Doberman again; mom sees the shiver and puts a comforting paw on my shoulder.
\n\n
\n\n "Don't you worry Mike; no one messes with my son and gets away with it"
\n\n
\n\n Mom turns and leaves my room and heads downstairs towards the kitchen to start on breakfast, as she passes the phone I hear her pick it up, after a couple of seconds I hear her talking to someone on the phone, it's her boss from work.
\n\n
\n\n "Hi Mr Leyland, it's Pam Milan, I'm sorry but I'm going to be late into work today as I have to go to my sons school for a meeting with the headmaster, I promise that I will make up the time"
\n\n
\n\n After a few more seconds I hear mom put the phone down and head into the kitchen, I head into the shower and turn it on; I get undressed and then I step into the stream of water, hopefully it will rinse the filth of the Doberman's paw from my body, it's just a pity that it won't rinse it from my memory.
\n\n
\n\n <><><><><><><><><><>
\n\n
\n\n After my shower I dry myself off and then get dressed into my school uniform, once dressed I slowly make my way downstairs and head towards the kitchen where my mom has a bowl of cereals and a plate of toast waiting for me. I sit at the table and begin to eat, my mom is sitting opposite me, she looks at me in silence just watching me eat, and then she speaks.
\n\n
\n\n "You know son, the past year has been hard on us both, but it has been hardest for you, first the death of your dad, then moving house and having to leave your friends behind, and now this, some grubby pawed kid who can't keep his paws to himself, I promise you this honey once this mess is sorted out you and I will go away for a holiday"
\n\n
\n\n A weak smile plays across my face as I hear this, it also has a profound effect on my tail which gently begins to wag, something that it has not done for just over a year. Once breakfast is finished I put my school jacket on and collect my bag, my mom hands me some money to use for my lunch, again the memories come back of how this mess started and I begin to shiver, but then I begin to toughen up, I don't want mom to see me as a broken pup.
\n\n
\n\n We both head out to the car and begin the journey to school. As we pull into the parking area I see the Doberman standing by the entrance doors again, his face is devoid of any remorse for what he did just twenty four hours earlier, in fact he is laughing and joking with his friends. I let out a whimper which my mom hears.
\n\n
\n\n "That's him isn't it?"
\n\n
\n\n I nod my head and a single tear falls from my eye, mom stops the car and gets out, she calmly walks over to the Doberman and stands in front of him, she is just a little taller than the Doberman but not quite as imposing.
\n\n
\n\n "I know what you did to my son, I'm not going to let you get away with it you pervert, and your days of touching up young pups are numbered"
\n\n
\n\n After her speech she turns back and heads towards the car. We find a parking space in the parking area and then we head into the main building, again I see Mr Bernard walking towards me, he stops in front of me and mom.
\n\n
\n\n "Mrs Milan I presume, and the fact that you have brought young Mike to school today tells me that all is not well in the Milan household"
\n\n
\n\n My mom doesn't answer him which causes the teacher to lay a gentle and directing arm around her shoulder.
\n\n
\n\n "I think I know what this is about, though I have been wrong before, this is about Ben O'Neil chasing Mike yesterday morning am I right?"
\n\n
\n\n Mom looks deep into the Rottweiler's eyes; it's then that a realisation hits Mr Bernard hard.
\n\n
\n\n "Something else went on yesterday between Mike and Ben didn't it? Well, in that case I had better lead you both to the office of Mr Giles, the school Headmaster, though if you guys don't mind, I would like to sit in too"
\n\n
\n\n Mr Bernard begins to walk to the Head teacher's office and mom and I follow, once at the office door Mr Bernard knocks on it, after a few seconds the door opens to reveal a Husky clad in an expensive suit, Mr Bernard introduces us to the Husky.
\n\n
\n\n "Mr Giles, this is Michael Milan and his charming mother, they would like a word with you regarding Ben O'Neil"
\n\n
\n\n The Husky looks down towards me and replies.
\n\n
\n\n "What has he done this time?"
\n\n
\n\n I open my muzzle to speak, but mom beats me to it.
\n\n
\n\n "Don't you think it would be better if we did this behind closed doors and sat down?"
\n\n
\n\n The Headmaster closes the door and then motions for us to sit, mom and I sit in front of the desk facing Mr Giles while Mr Bernard sits just off to the side, observing. Mom now goes into full flow.
\n\n
\n\n "You have a student attending this school that likes to mess around with younger students, and by mess around I mean.....molest"
\n\n
\n\n The eyes of both Mr Bernard and Mr Giles go wide as they hear this; Mr Bernard stands from his seat and kneels before me.
\n\n
\n\n "Is this true Mike, did O'Neil do something to you.....or touch you in some way?"
\n\n
\n\n I gently nod and begin to sob again; Mr Bernard lets a growl escape from his throat, but the look on Mr Giles' face doesn't change, instead he makes his own reply.
\n\n
\n\n "Did anyone else see the alleged attack?"
\n\n
\n\n I shake my head, tears still streaming down my cheeks, Mr Giles continues.
\n\n
\n\n "Well then, how do we know that the attack ever took place, I mean for all we know you yourself could have instigated the alleged attack"
\n\n
\n\n At this my mom stood bolt upright and quickly reached across the desk to grab hold of Mr Giles, fortunately the Husky moved back out of reach, so instead he got a verbal tongue lashing from mom.
\n\n
\n\n "Mr Giles, my son does not cry at the drop of a hat, and I don't take too kindly to you accusing him of starting what basically boils down to a rape, now I demand that you do something about this, because so help me, if Mike comes home in tears again, I will take matters into my own paws, now Mr Giles what do you intend to do about this situation?"
\n\n
\n\n The Husky lets out a sigh and then makes his reply.
\n\n
\n\n "Ok Mrs Milan, I will pull Mr O'Neil in and have a good talk with him about his conduct, but without solid evidence that is all I can do"
\n\n
\n\n A quietly seething female German Shepherd nods her head slowly in agreement, she thanks Mr Giles for his time and me, mom and Mr Bernard leave the room. Mr Bernard closes the door behind him and quickly catches up to me and mom, he speaks to my mom.
\n\n
\n\n "I have a nasty feeling that Mr Giles will do the absolute minimum with regards to talking to Ben O'Neil, me on the other paw, well I will be a little more thorough as me and Mr O'Neil have what you might call a love hate relationship, namely he loves to hate me. As I mentioned to your son, the reason that Mr Giles will do very little is because of the fact that his parents are on the board of governors for the school"
\n\n
\n\n My mom looks Mr Bernard deep in the eyes and gives her reply.
\n\n
\n\n "In my experience Mr Bernard, the bigger they are the harder they fall"
\n\n
\n\n Mr Bernard just gently nods his head in agreement and then turns to head towards his class. It seems that at least one of the teachers has said something to the Doberman, because all through the rest of the day he gives me no trouble. Mom comes to collect me at the end of school just to make doubly sure that I don't suffer any reprisals from O'Neil.
\n\n
\n\n Indeed for the rest of the week all is calm, but in my mind I have my doubts that it will remain that way.
