The full moon shined on the dragon city and me and Jessie are out on the balcony at the motel, looking down at the streets. About several hours after Rain's confrontation toward me and Jessie.
A million thoughts were racing in my mind, as I swung my bag reluctantly on my shoulder.
This is crazy! I can't just up and leave this place! This is wrong!
I glanced at Jessie, who has a determined look on her face. She's not going to give up on this. I only let out a sigh.
I know that I don't want to leave this city, but I can't just leave her alone either.
I mean, I can understand that Rain has yelled at her the most not to mention not trusting both of us at all, but Jessie wasn't helping matters on her end. She was yelling at Rain too.
I have to admit, with Jessie's attitude, she as balls. Big brass ones! Even for a girl!
Of course, even Rain has balls too.
For god sakes, what am I getting myself into?!
I tried to stop Jessie from doing this crazy thing, but she won't listen to me. No matter how hard I try to convince her throughout the whole afternoon, she won't listen to me.
She just doesn't want to believe that humans and dragons have co existed before and she doesn't want to think otherwise that Wayne and Amanda are not slaves to the dragons.
But I know they're not slaves and I do believe now, judging by the way things look and how the dragons are talking about it, we have co existed together.
She's wrong about things and I'm right.
I can't believe that she's so damn stubborn.
I want to stay here, but I can't leave her alone.
I won't let her do this alone. If she wants to go home, then I'll help her get out of the city and off the mountains. Then...Either I'll go back to the city, or I'll just go with her to San Diego, if we get off the mountains and find her car, which I know for a fact that it's far away from here.
I like Jessie, but right now....This is gonna be tough.
Jessie tapped my shoulder and I looked at her. She asked, "Are you ready for this?"
I let out a nervous sigh and I shook my head a bit, "I still don't like this."
Jessie shot a glare, "Brandon, we don't belong here. We're leaving this place and I don't want to leave you."
I nodded with a pity look, "I know that, but...I feel like I-"
Jessie softened her look and said with fiery determination, "Brandon, they don't care about us and we need to leave. I will not be a prisoner and neither should you." She then looked over the banister of the balcony and said, "Now, help me find a place to get down from here. We can't just waltz our way out of the motel. We need to climb down."
I sighed again. This is gonna get bad.
If Rain and everyone else finds out that we've escaped, we're in big trouble.
Jessie, what have you got us into?
Going to get us in trouble, that's what you'll get us into.
Jessie beamed and beckoned me with her hand, "Follow me, I see some vines that we'll climb down."
I followed her gaze and on the other side of the balcony on the outside wall, there are some vines we can climb down. I felt a pit in my stomach. I'm not going to love this.
If Rain finds us outside the city, if we even escape the city, she's going to kick our ass.
Jessie climbed over the balcony railing and carefully grabbed onto the vines and jumped on them. She giggled and looked at me before she climbed down, "Come on. We're getting out of here." And with that, she started to climb down.
I was still pretty hesitant about this whole escapade. I let out a breath. At this rate, since I have a girl that I like and want to protect, I'm dropping everything right now.
If she gets hurt outside the city, I'll never forgive myself.
Rain...I hope you'll forgive me for this.
I hope all of you guys don't hate us for this.
I made my way to the balcony banister and climbed over it. My foot almost slipped off the balcony, and my hand clasped on the banister before I could fall off. My eyes went wide with fear. Whew, that was a close one.
I almost fell off the balcony and it's a long way down.
The height is far enough to kill me, if I'm not careful.
I looked down at where the vines are and saw that Jessie's almost to the sidewalk at the bottom of the vines. I looked at the spot where she started to climb down and made my way carefully to the vines.
When I got close, I reached out with one hand and grabbed the vine, then when I had a good grip I jumped to the vines and found my footing.
Perspiration was dripping down my forehead. I'm so nervous doing this.
I know that I've ran away before, but this is different.
I've ran away from my mom's boyfriend, now this is just running away from dragons.
Dragons that might distrust me and Jessie even more if we get caught. Especially Rain.
I can hear Jessie's loud whisper below me, "Brandon." I looked down and saw that Jessie has made it to the bottom. She motioned her hand downward, "It's clear, come on."
I didn't hesitate after she called out quietly. I started to climb down slowly on the vines.
It took about two minutes, but I finally made it below where Jessie stood around waiting for me. I took my first step on the sidewalk and placed another. I let go of the vines and turned to face her. Jessie grinned at me, "You okay?"
I nodded, while adjusting my bag on my shoulder, "Yep."
Jessie nodded and whirled around, "Alright, lets find that big wall and climb over it, then we're out of here." She started to jog on the sidewalk and I jogged after her. Not letting her out of my sight.
We both jogged for a long time, we didn't see any dragons walking around right now. Which I'm glad no one hasn't caught us.
We could see the big wall up ahead and we could also see the staircase that leads to the top of the wall.
I haven't been on top of the wall today, but this'll be my first and only time probably that I'll be on there.
Me and Jessie jogged up on the steps, taking two steps at a time. And before we could get up to the very top, I could hear voices on the wall. I grabbed Jessie's arm and we both hugged close to the wall. We both listened, and we can hear two voices. Two dragons I believe are patrolling the wall.
When we can hear that the voices are far away, I let go of Jessie's arm and we both continued our trek on the stairs, until we emerged on the top of the great wall that surrounds the city. I turned my head to look at the skyline. Nice view from up here.
Jessie patted my shoulder to get my attention, I looked at her and she pointed. I nodded and we both ran on the stone wall, side by side.
We ran, until we could see some vines sticking on the other side of the wall. Jessie let out a glee and I was just nervous as usual. Well...We've found a way out of here.
Jessie's running slowed to a trek and she swung her leg over the wall and started to climb down the vines. I watched her climb down until her head disappeared. I walked to the edge and peeked over, she's still climbing down. I let out a sigh. I did what she did and swung my leg over the wall, finding my footing on the vines. I placed another foot on the vine and I lowered myself a bit, until I grabbed the vines now. Then I started to climb down after Jessie.
Jessie made it below and soon after, I made below with her. Jessie let out a sigh of relief, "We actually made it."
I started to giggle a bit, "Yeah, we did."
Jessie giggled too and then we both saw a path away from the city. Jessie patted my arm, "We'll take that path, it's got to lead off the mountains."
Me and Jessie started jogging away from the big wall and away from the dragon city. When we were at a safe distance, I looked back at it one more time. I had a guilty look on my face. I'm sorry, Rain.
I want to help you, but I care about Jessie too.
I'm very sorry.
Jessie actually stopped where she's at and she whispered with annoyance in her voice, "Lets go, Brandon."
I looked at her and I nodded. Then I ran to where she's at and we both made our trek. Walking on the outskirts of the city.
*****
Wayne looked up at me and said with a pity look, "And you just yelled at them?"
I hung my head in guilt and shame, without looking at him, "Yes."
After several hours of tossing and turning in my motel room, I went to the roof of the motel and took to the skies. Soon after, I flew all the way to Wayne's house and told him everything. Talk about good timing, he was about to go to sleep.
Wayne shook his head and placed a hand on my chest, "It's ok, Rain." Wayne removed his hand off of me and said, "I mean, I know from what you've described about what Jessie said, that she hated you for being a bully and a bitch. I get that, but can you blame her? From what I've heard, you haven't exactly made things easy on her."
I sighed, "I know that, but..." I growled a bit, "But now I'm wondering if I'm doing the right thing bringing them here. I mean, she is right, I did kidnap them and they have every right to hate me. They...They were probably just innocent humans who were just passing through and I've just kidnapped them. But...I couldn't help but to take them with me, I was afraid that they-"
"Rain, it's okay."
I looked at Wayne, "No, it's not okay." I looked behind him, not looking at him at all, "I can't just shake the guilt now. I thought they were liars, but they're probably not. I've yelled at them, and they probably never caused the fight with those three dragons, maybe those dragons did. And all I did was yell at them and accuse them of just making excuses." I sighed, "Now...I just made it worse and I have called them both an embarrassment."
I shut my eyes tight, "I'm sorry, Wayne. I know that it's sorta late, but I really wanted to talk to someone. I mean, look at what I've done. I've screamed at them, telling them that I don't trust them and they would just forget me and my kind anyways after they leave the city. Not to mention...Brandon said that he believes that we did co exist after all. And I said that he's a liar. He...He looked sincere and I didn't believe him at all."
Wayne shook his head, "You don't have to apologize for waking me up. And I'm glad that you've told me all this." He had a concerned look on his face, "Jessie thinks that me and Amanda are being slaves to your kind, that's a bit much."
I opened my eyes and sighed, "I know, but I also feel sorry for yelling at them. It wasn't fair. Jessie doesn't know me and my kind and she's wrong, but I'm the one who has accused them of doing bad things. Thinking that they're untrustworthy, that they're liars. Thinking that they're all the same as every human outside the city." I had a guilty look on my face again, "What have I done to them, Wayne? I...I've scared them and I've threatened them only once before. I'm...I'm..."
Wayne reassured me, "Rain, don't think you're a bad dragon, don't blame yourself. You just didn't know them, but they also didn't know you. All three of you just have the same problem." Then he gave me a smile, "I know you weren't there when it happened, but I have told you about it. But, does this remind you of anything?"
I looked at him and then when I thought about it, I shook my head, "No."
Wayne said, "You lived in Sierra's cave, for months at a time, and you never thought you'd meet someone there, but...There was. And Brandon entered in the cave just like I did. He found you and another human found you."
I started to say this to Wayne, with guilt in my voice, "Wayne-"
"Sierra realized her mistake, just like you are. She treated me badly and she has learned from it. Just like you are now. You're both not bad dragons, she didn't trust me at all, not at first. Just like you don't trust them right now." He nodded, "I'm sure things we'll be okay, you just need to talk to them and apologize, and then at least get to know them, before you judge them too harshly again."
I looked away from him for a moment. He's right. I'm not a bad dragon. I know what I've done was wrong, but I'm now learning from my mistake.
In a way, I'm just like Sierra. I lived in a cave, just like she did. I sighed. I need to talk to them. I have to do this.
I had a determined look, "I have to make it right." I looked down at Wayne and asked, "They're probably sleeping, but I can't sleep right now. I'm going to go to their motel room and talk to them about it. I...I need your help, help me clean up all this mess, at least tell Jessie that you're not a slave. Can you...Can you help me out with this? I need your help."
Wayne smiled and said, "Of course I can. I want to help set the record straight. I'm not a slave at all."
I nodded and I lowered my snout to his chest, nuzzling him, "Thank you."
Wayne petted under my chin, "You're welcome, big girl."
I pulled back from his chest and raised my head. I let out a nervous sigh, "Well...Lets get this over with."
He nodded and then he said, "Don't be nervous about this, we just need to go talk to them and hopefully things we'll be alright with them from now on." He shrugged, "I'm sure they'll come around."
I said, "I hope so." I sighed, "I think, I should stop yelling at them and just talk things with them. That way them, especially Jessie, would stop hating me."
Wayne patted my shoulder and said, "We'll do this together, c'mon." He started to walk ahead to head outside and I walked behind him. We both went outside in the middle of the street and I lowered my body to the ground, to let him ride on my back. Wayne got close to my body and grabbed ahold my wing joint. He swung his leg over my back and sat down on me. I rose my body off the ground afterwards.
I looked over my shoulder, looking at Wayne. I saw him wrapping his arms around my neck and tucked in his legs. Ready to fly on my back.
I smirked at him and he raised an eyebrow, "What?"
I shook my head, "Nothing. It's just that it has been such a long time since I had someone ride on my back."
Wayne smirked back and patted my neck, "I haven't rode on anyone else since Sierra left, only you."
I nodded and said to him, "Ready?"
He tightened his grip around my neck, "I'm ready."
I looked ahead and I started to flap my wings, after a few flaps we both rose off the ground, my feet only touching air. Soon we were over the stone buildings and with a small burst of speed, we flew forward.
I flapped my wings against the wind and I veered my body to my right, changing direction.
I looked down at the streets, seeing all the lights down there. From above, I recognize the motel down below.
I flapped down to the roof of the motel and I slowed my gliding down. I flapped my wings again when I got close to the roof. I landed on my hind feet first, then my front feet. After I landed, I lowered my body, until my stomach felt the hard surface of the roof. Wayne turned his body on my back and slid off of me. He landed with a thud and dusted himself.
He sighed and Wayne looked up at me, "Are you ready for this?"
I shook my head shyly, nervous thoughts going through me, "Not really."
Wayne gave me a comforting pat on my body, "Don't worry about it too much. We both just need to go in there and talk to them. Then you apologize and we all talk things over."
I nodded, "We'll find out what happens." I let out a nervous sigh, "Come on." I started to walk through the opening that leads down into the motel, that'll lead me to the rooms. Wayne followed me close behind.
We both entered up in the big hallway of the motel and we made our way to Brandon and Jessie's room.
My thoughts were filled with worry and my body was shaking a bit, since I was nervous. I hope they can forgive me for all the hateful things I've said to them.
And I hope that they, especially Jessie, will be on good terms with me. I feel like I was being a bully to them, calling them an embarrassment, calling them liars.
I'm tired of worrying that they'll cause trouble, I need to treat them the way I treat Wayne and Amanda. I need to treat them with respect.
They're not bad people, they were just innocent humans that I've just kidnapped. Just like Wayne was kidnapped by Sierra.
Well they're not prisoners and that's a vow I'll make to them. Back then, both our kinds always treated each other as equals.
I need to make it right.
I need to apologize to them and make it right. I want to get to know them. I'll never judge them again.
When we both entered through the opening of their room, we looked at the pile of furs and saw that they're gone.
My eyes went wide. Gone? Where did they...? Then I realized what happened to them and I muttered out loud, "They escaped!"
Then Wayne looked around and said to himself, "Oh no."
I looked down at him, "We need to find them NOW."
Wayne turned to face me with a worried look. He nodded, "Right, come on lets go!"
Then me and Wayne ran through the opening of the room. Now I just have an angry look on my face. My anger and instincts kicking in. They better not have escaped the city! They better not look for other humans to kill us!
*****
Me and Jessie ended up in a scary looking forest about an hour after we've escaped the dragon city. I shivered a bit, as a cool breeze went through me.
I can't believe what I'm doing. If Rain and the dragons find us out here, they'll be mad that we just escaped.
Hell, Rain doesn't trust us enough and look how that'll reflect on us.
This is gonna get bad if we get caught.
Me and Jessie, with a flashlight in her hand, looked at all the big tall trees that surrounds us.
This place gives me the creeps.
Probably should've been better if we were traveling here during the day. That way it wouldn't look so darn scary.
Jessie shined the beam of the flashlight to her left and sighed when she was starting to feel tired, "Brandon, I hope we get out of this forest soon. I want to get off these mountains tonight."
I said to her while we were walking, "Jessie...I think we should go back. I really believe that you're wrong about everything back there."
Jessie said with anger in her voice, "I'm not buying their bullshit, Brandon."
That's when I realized that I've had enough of this and I need to do something about this. I have to stop this now! Then I stopped her with my hand on her shoulder and made her look at me. I said, "Jessie, look what we're doing! We're doing a bad thing here!"
Jessie just narrowed her gaze, "Oh come on, Brandon. We both ran away from home, what makes you think this is a bad thing? We both want to be happy and start our new lives."
I said to her, while looking directly at her, "But we can start our new lives there. We don't have to go to San Diego. Hell, we don't have to go back home at all."
Jessie shouted at me with disbelief and anger, "Brandon, why the hell are you defending them?! We just got ourselves kidnapped and you're defending the dragons, especially Rain!"
I shouted at her, "But there's more to them than that! Wayne's right about everything, we have co existed!"
"He's brainwashed by them, damn it! And now I think you are as well! Is that why you won't come with me, is that it?!"
I glared at her, "Jessie, this whole thing need to stop! If we keep going on, think about how they'll think about us! They'll think we're just looking for more humans just to bring a lot of them to the city and kill all the dragons. But we're not! But they don't know that! Think about how it'll reflect on us!"
Jessie shoved her hands in my chest real hard and I stumbled back. She sneered, "I don't care, if those scaly bullies are thinking that way about us or not! They're monsters and liars! They kidnap humans and-"
I screamed, "But Wayne and Amanda are not slaves! They never were!"
Jessie's jaw dropped and she sighed, "You really are frustrating the hell out of me! That big, black bitch kidnapped us, don't you get it?! She kidnapped us!"
I said to her in a calm voice, "Look, I know that she kidnapped us, but I think there's more to it than that. I...I think she wanted another friend. I think she-"
Jessie just snickered in disbelief and said in a mock tone, "Oh really? Well that's a fine way of making friends, just by kidnapping someone!"
I held out my hands to her and protested, "Would you shut up already and listen?!"
She gasped and shut her trap. I took a deep breath and said, "Rain said that a friend of hers, got to know her and then this person called her a monster and turned his back on her. Well...I think that friend of hers is a human and he lived outside the city when...It happened. He must have forgotten who she was and....And..."
Jessie said with a frown, "Brandon, we don't just forget that dragons are our friends, I don't think it happened at all."
I shook my head at her, "No, I think it did happen. I'm sure of it. I can feel it."
She shouted her question, "How would you know that?!"
I just stared at her and said, "Because, one dragon was real friendly to me and his name's Cody."
Her eyes went wide and I went on, "And that's not the only thing why I think that. I saw a human woman and that was Amanda, that Rain was talking about. And Amanda's best friends with a dragon named Neal. I saw them so close to each other, Jessie. They didn't treat each other like enemies at all. The dragon didn't treat her like a slave at all. And Rain didn't treat Wayne like one also."
Jessie softened her gaze to a frown and I went on, "I even went to a restaurant, before I found you alone with three dragons, I ate there and they know how to take orders. They have menus! They even have a stage in there, for singing!"
She asked with confusion on her face, "What?"
I nodded, "I'm as hell sure they don't have technology like we do, but I do know this." I put a hand to my chest, "They're acting like us, and I could see why Wayne stayed with Sierra after she kidnapped him, they became best friends, because she has feelings just like he does. Because she was just like Rain, she didn't trust him either, and I know that's what's happening to us. There's always distrust at first, but when we get to know them...They're different than you think."
I let out a breath, "They're not mindless, kidnapping monsters. They're thinking feeling creatures who act like us. They have a society. Wayne was right, we have co existed years ago, and that's what the dragons remember us the most. The reason why those three dragons picked on us, is because they're just frustrated about us. They just don't believe that we've changed at all back then. But I think we have, and something happened to us back then. We weren't there, but...I want to set an example. I'm an outsider of the city and I'll be an example."
I took a step back from her and tossed her my bag. She caught the bag in her arms. I said to her, "You can take this, there's still some Doritos and protein bars in there." I shook my head, "I'm not going with you, I'm going back. If you want to go, GO. I won't stop you. But...I care about you Jessie, so please...Give them another chance. Give RAIN another chance. Please Jessie...Don't go alone, stay with me. We both ran away from home to start a new life, well lets start it here! Give that place another chance!"
She looked at my bag and then back at me. I went on, "I'm not leaving Jessie and it's final. I'm sure I'll never be a slave, I'll be treated like I'm one of them and...Maybe I'll treat them all like they're humans. I'm willing to take that chance. If you want to leave, then leave, go ahead and GO."
I said to her with a pleading look, "I know we don't know each other that well and we hardly talked to each other before we met at the bar. And I know you're just some rich girl, wanting to get away from everything. But...Please Jess...Don't leave me...I care about you. Please don't go."
Jessie only stared at me for a few moments. Then she dropped the bag and threw herself into me. Wrapping her arms around me for a hug. She started crying in my neck.
I had a sad look on my face, "Jessie?"
Jessie said while her face is buried in my neck, "I'm sorry Brandon. I'm...I'm so sorry."
I slowly wrapped my arms around her and held her tight. I said to her in a soothing voice, "It's alright, Jess. It's alright." She continued to sob in my neck. I think she's starting to get it now.
Jessie asked me while she was crying, "Brandon...How come we didn't know about this city? The dragons? Everything? How could our kind just forget about them? How come me and you didn't know about all this?"
I shook my head as I still held her in my arms, "I don't know, Jess. I don't know."
We were like this for about five minutes and we finally pulled away from each other a bit, still in each others arms. We were staring at each other now.
Suddenly, I felt this urge to kiss her right now. Because ever since I've met her at the bar back at home. Ever since she watched me singing back at home. Ever since we both ran away from home.
I...I really like her.
I was starting to lean my face forward, ready to press my lips to her. But then she stopped me with a hand to my mouth. My eyes went wide and I pulled back and let her out of my embrace. I said with concern in my voice, "What's wrong?"
She had a frightened look on her face and she pointed behind me. I followed her gaze and let out a sharp gasp.
A pack of wolves were in front of us, all baring their fangs. There were about twenty of them!
Jessie hid behind me, his breathing trembling behind my neck. I said to her without taking my eyes off of the wolves, "Back away...Real slow." We both started to back away together.
The wolves were still growling at us, and they were just advancing to us. Taking several short threatening steps. Their eyes still on us like prey.
I saw a rock on the ground and then I reached down real fast and threw it at one of the wolves. The rock hit it in the head and yelped. Me and Jessie whirled around and ran. I shouted, "RUN!!"
Me and Jessie ran as fast as our legs could carry us. Trying not to look back to see if the wolves are chasing us.
We ran and ran, until we saw a ditch ahead of us. Both of us cried out as we jumped over it. We landed on our feet after we jumped over it and kept on running. Both of us breathing hard.
Jessie pointed to her right and shouted, "This way!"
Me and Jessie went right and kept moving. Adrenaline rushing throughout my body.
We ran, until we came across a wall of rock. Apparently we ended up being close to a mountain wall. We looked around and noticed there's no other direction to run off to.
Me and Jessie tried to turn back around and run, but the wolves got us cornered. Their teeth baring at us again.
Jessie started crying and pleaded the wolves for her life, "Please...Don't do this!"
If only the wolves could understand us, but they don't. They still want to kill us.
Jessie screamed for help, "Help!!"
I did the same thing, screaming up to the sky, "HELP! HELP!!!"
Then one of the wolves ran to Jessie and pounced on her. Jessie screaming in terror.
I screamed for her as my fear for her came, "JESSIE!"
I saw that Jessie had got the wolf off of her and now the wolf bit down on Jessie's arm, hard. Jessie screamed in pain and horror.
I was about to run and help her, but another wolf jumped on me, and we both fell to the ground with a thud.
The wolf's face was close to mine as it pinned me down, its hot breath washing down to my face and I tried to push its face off of me. I screamed at it with rage, "Get off, you bastard!"
The wolf tried to bite me and squirm while I was pushing it away. Then the wolf bit down on my hand. I closed my eyes tight as pain went through my hand and arm, "AHHHH!!!!!"
But then the wolf got pulled off of me and it cried out, with a whimper. I sat up on the ground, wondering what happened and I gasped.
Rain appeared over me and she actually knocked the wolf away. The wolf got knocked away hard and it landed nearby.
I smiled up at her and then I saw another wolf coming at her. I pointed at it, warning her, "Look out!"
Rain saw the wolf and used her long tail to swiped it away, yelping in pain after it got hit.
I looked at Jessie and saw that to my surprise, Cody actually saved her life as well. He picked up the wolf with his jaws and threw it against the wall, its bones cracking as it hit the wall, killing it.
I saw more wolves coming and now I see that Rain's brother and Neal came out of nowhere and blew fire out of their mouths at them. The wolves being burned to a crisp as the fire consumed them. Several of them dropped dead from the flames.
My eyes went wide at the flames. Holy crap!
Rain's brother and Neal stopped breathing fire and they were just breathing heavily, trying to catch their breaths. Then they both flapped their wings to put the fire out, to put out some of the flames that are still burning the grass.
Soon I realized that all the wolves are dead, and it's over. I winced in pain as I remember that one wolf bit my hand. I examined my wound and it looks bad. Blood coming out in long red streaks. I got up on my feet and I let out a sigh of relief. Rain came over an looked down at me.
I smiled up at her and said, "Thanks, Rain."
She narrowed her eyes at me, and my face went wide, like I was caught stealing money. Oh crap. Now I'm in trouble. I groaned in pain again.
Jessie came to me with a wound on her arm and cried out to me, "Brandon, your hand!"
I clenched my fist tight, trying to stop the throbbing pain, "It hurts."
Cody, Neal, and Rain's brother came too, standing over us. Cody saw the wounds on me and Jessie and he let out a sharp gasp, "Guys, they're wounded!"
Rain saw it too and said, "We need to help them, now!"
Rain's brother growled and snarled, "Hold on, why did they leave the city?! We shouldn't help them, they're up to something!"
Rain looked at her brother, "We'll worry about that later, but right now we need to help them, then we can question them when we get back home."
Her brother hissed at her, "Screw that! We need to kill them now! I knew they were bad news!"
Jessie with a scared look, shook her head and begged, "No, please don't kill us! We're sorry!"
Cody lowered his head to Jessie's level, "Don't worry, we won't kill you."
Rain's brother flared his wings and snarled, "Bullcrap! They were just planning to find and tell more humans about where we live! They both want us dead!"
Neal with a narrowed look shouted, "We don't have time to argue about this! Lets help them now!"
Rain nodded at Neal and looked down at us, "Hold on, you two." And with that, Rain raised a claw to her forearm and then she made a cut on it. She hissed in pain.
I frowned at her, "Huh?" Then I saw that Cody made a cut on himself as well and he hissed in pain too.
Jessie eyed Cody and asked with confusion on her face, "What are you two doing?"
Rain apparently smeared some blood on her paw and said to us, "Me and Cody are giving you dragon blood to heal your wounds."
My eyes went wide with surprise, "What?" Then I winced in pain again. My hand still hurts!
Rain walked to me more closer and she ordered, "Give me your hand." I did what she told me and raised my hand. Then she held my hand with her paw a bit and she said, "Now hold still." Then she started to smear her blood on my hand with her other paw and I was cringing in more pain.
I looked and saw that Cody did the same thing on Jessie's arm, smearing his blood on her. Jessie's still confused by the way her face looked.
I turned to Rain and asked, "Does your blood really help?"
Rain looked into my eyes and said, "Dragon blood has excellent healing properties. Your wound should be healed in a couple of days." She sighed and stopped smearing blood on my wound. She said, "Better patch that wound up, it's still bleeding."
I nodded and let my hand fall to my side when she was done, "Lets find my bag, it has some bandages in it. It's not far from here."
Rain nodded and then she narrowed her gaze at me and Jessie, "Yes, and when we get back home, YOU two got a lot of explain to do."
My face turned white. Yep, I knew there would be a confrontation coming when we get back. Jessie walked up and stood beside me, gripping her wounded arm with her hand.
I hope they go easy on us.

Rain's brother slammed his paw down real hard and snarled with his wings flaring, "You FUCKING liars!!!"
I held out my bandaged hand to calm him down, "Hold on a second, it's not what you think and I-"
Rain's brother lowered his head to my level, his gaze so fierce it would probably set you on fire, "You two escaped from this city, so you would bring an army of humans to murder us all in cold blood!"
Wayne got in between me and Rain's brother and pushed his head away from me, "That's enough!"
Rain's brother hissed at Wayne, "Get out of my freakin way, HUMAN!"
Wayne glared at him, "Not until you relax!"
He just glared at Wayne and he growled at him. My eyes went wide at Wayne's defense. God is he crazy? He just stood up to a dragon!
About an hour later after Rain and the others saved me and Jessie's life, they took us back by flying back to the city with me and Jessie in Rain's paws and not long after we came back, this whole thing started to happen. Rain, Rain's brother, Neal, and Cody are all questioning us and all that in front of the motel. Wayne and Amanda were already waiting for us here when we came back.
Rain's brother continued to glare at Wayne and he raised his head above our levels. Wayne then whirled around and asked, "Alright, start at the beginning, why did you guys leave this city? Why did you escape?"
I said to him with assurance, "It's not what you guys think."
Rain narrowed her gaze at me, "I'm trying VERY hard to believe you right now."
Jessie with a bandaged arm while she hid behind me, screamed at Rain with a pleading tone, "But we weren't going to find an army of humans, we weren't going to tell anyone about YOU!"
Amanda asked me and Jessie with a frown, while she stood beside Neal, "Then why did you guys just escape the city?"
Cody cocked his head down at us, "Yeah. I mean, I know I haven't met Jessie, but Brandon why did you want to leave? I thought you liked us?"
Now I just felt guilty looking at all of them and I answered with all honest, "I do like you guys, it's...Just complicated."
Rain's brother sneered at me, "Well how about stop getting things so complicated by telling us the damn truth?!"
Neal turned his head to shoot a glare at him, "YOU be quiet."
Rain's brother glared at Neal now, "Don't tell me to be quiet! You're not even an officer anymore, so why don't YOU be quiet?!" Neal and Rain's brother just bared their fangs at each other.
Amanda smacked her hand on Neal's body, scolding him, "Neal!"
Rain snarled at her brother with the most fiercest glare she could muster, "Brother, that's enough!!"
Rain's brother turned his gaze and snarled at his sister, "What did I tell you huh? What did I freakin tell you last night, when you brought them here?! They're bad news!"
Rain swiped her paw across her brother's muzzle and he cried out. Rain kept sneering at him, her wings flaring, "I said THAT'S ENOUGH!"
Rain's brother shook off his daze and growled at her, and then he took a deep breath and let it out. He didn't let his glare melt away at all, "Fine."
Rain stared at him for another moment and then looked down at me and Jessie, "Who are you two? Who are you really? And why did you leave?"
Jessie glared at her, "You know why."
Rain hissed at Jessie, "Don't try to make this my fault. I'm not the one who escaped the city during the night."
Wayne shot a look at her and asked us, "I know I don't know you THAT much, and I know that Rain has treated you badly, but why did you want to leave really?"
I just stared at him, trying to come up with the best answer I could think of. Then Wayne asked when a thought came to him, "Do you two have family? Is that why you left? Did you two want to go back to them?"
My eyes went wide and then Wayne placed a hand to his chest, "I did the same thing you guys did. I wanted to get away from the city one night, because I was thinking about my family. Now, is that the reason why? Just tell me."
I shook my head and answered, "We don't have family. We don't have a home."
Wayne raised an eyebrow and I went on, "Me and Jessie don't have a home, we both just ran away. We were on our way to San Diego and...All this happened."
Rain cocked her head at me, with disbelief in her eyes, "Is that why you left the dragon city? To go to a human city?"
I shook my head at her, "That's not why I wanted to leave. I never wanted to leave this city. I only left because of Jessie. I...I didn't want her to go alone."
Rain's brother shot up his head, "Ha! Is it because she's your mate?"
I glared at him, "What does that mean? You mean girlfriend? Because if that's what it means, then no she's not."
Rain's brother said with a taunting tone, "Funny, she looked like the type I'd be with."
I shouted at him, "You leave her out of this!"
He glared at me and then I said, "I was trying to stop her from leaving, but she wouldn't listen. So that's why I went with her just to make sure she's alright. I didn't want her hurt." I sighed in guilt and shame, "I'm really sorry guys. I tried my very best to stop her, but she wouldn't listen."
Rain's brother remarked, "Well you know what I think about this? I think you're just being too submissive to your own mate here. Ha! I bet you don't have a big dragonhood!" Then he giggled.
I frowned at him, "What the hell does that mean?"
Then he just gave me a devious grin and my eyes went wide when I knew what he was talking about. My cheeks turning red a bit. He's talking about the thing between my legs. I shot a glare at him and sneered out of annoyance, "My thing is bigger than you think!"
Jessie just frowned at both me and Rain's brother, "What the hell are you two talking about?"
Rain's brother shot back, "Well it doesn't matter! There's only one reason why you left with her. So you'd bring an army here to kill us!"
I shouted at him, "For the last time, I was only with her just to keep her safe! I didn't want her hurt!"
Jessie shouted at him as well, "We weren't planning to tell anyone, we swear! I just wanted to leave because I was pissed off at Rain. Because I didn't trust the dragons at all! I thought the dragons kidnap humans just to keep them as slaves!"
Neal tossed up his head and frowned at her, "Slaves?! Are you insane, girl? Dragons don't even do that stuff, not ever."
Amanda shook her head at Jessie, her eyes pretty much speaking the truth, "Jessie, me and Wayne are not slaves. They would never treat us that way."
Wayne nodded in agreement, "She's right. We are always friends with the dragons."
Rain's brother sneered at Wayne, "Not ALL of them."
Wayne shot a look at him, "Shut up."
Rain's brother kept sneering at Wayne, "I know that you are friends with my only sister, but I don't approve it and I always won't."
Rain sighed and glared at him, "Do you want me to slap your muzzle again? Or do you want me to kick you in the balls?" Rain's brother hissed at her in response.
Jessie frowned at Wayne and Amanda, "So...You really aren't slaves after all? You're...Not being brainwashed by them?"
Wayne shook his head, "No, and I assure I'm telling you the truth." Then he motioned his hand to Rain, "And she wanted to apologize to you guys for her behavior."
Rain exclaimed, "Honestly, I'm having second thoughts about this right now. After what happened tonight, I'm starting to wonder if I should REALLY trust you."
I said to her, "Look Rain, we're sorry for what happened. We really are."
Jessie protested with a guilty tone, "I'm sorry Rain! I've been so bind and arrogant and I'm sorry! I thought wrongly about you guys, you just saved our lives and we're sorry! I'm sorry!"
Rain snarled, "What I'm not sorry about, is what you guys did! You're making me question my trust in you!"
I begged, "Rain, please don't hate us. We both don't have a home, and...Me and Jessie want to stay here." Jessie frowned at me and I looked at her. Then she slowly nodded after my serious conversation with her before the wolves attacked came to mind.
Wayne smiled and nodded at me. Then he gazed at Rain and said, "You see Rain? They're just like me."
Rain hissed, "I'm not falling for this bullshit!"
Wayne's face went wide and he held out his hand to her, "Rain."
Rain shouted at Wayne, "Just leave me alone!" And with that she whirled around and walked away from all of us, taking fast strides.
My eyes went wide and I called out to her, "Rain!" Then I looked at everyone in the group, "Excuse me." I ran after Rain after that.
She was waling up the street not far from where we are at. I sprinted, until I was standing in front of her. I turned to face her.
Rain hissed when she looked down at me, she stopped herself from walking any further. She asked in a angry and annoyed tone, "What do you want?"
I said to her with an apologetic look, "Rain...I'm sorry."
She sneered with a glare, "Sorry doesn't cut it this time. I never should have felt so guilty about you. How can I? Because I'm weak, that's why. Well guess what? I won't be weak anymore!"
I held out my hands to her, "Calm down."
Rain lowered her head to my level, her face close to my chest, "Don't tell me to be calm! I thought I was hurting you two, that I was treating you two so badly, well I was right about you guys. You lie about how you feel about me and then you escape during the night! Is that why you ran away from the city? To kill me and my kind?! Do you give a flying crap about my kind?!"
I protested, "I do!"
Rain narrowed her gaze, "I thought you were just a nice human. I really thought you wanted to get to know me. But now, I'm not so sure anymore."
I shouted, "Rain, everything that me and Jessie said are true! Everything that we've said is the truth!"
"How do I know that?! How am I supposed to believe that?!"
I shook my head at her, "You don't. And I wish that I found a way to show you, but I can't." I sighed.
Rain said with her eyes still locked onto me, "You could be lying to me right now. Well guess what? I won't let it happen to me again!"
I took a step toward her, "Rain, I know why you'd think that."
She raised her head and cocked her head, "What are you talking about now?"
I took another step toward her, "You had a friend once, did you?" I motioned my hand to her, "A human friend. Other than Wayne and Amanda."
She narrowed her gaze again, "You better watch where you're going with this."
I said, "Look, I know why you didn't kill me and Jessie when you first met us, why you took us to the dragon city, why you lived in that cave. Because you wanted to replace that friend, is that right?"
Rain growled at me, "You don't know me and what I want. Who are you to judge?"
I took another step to her and she backed a step from me, "Look, I'm sorry for what you went through. I really am." I placed a hand to my chest and gripped it, "I know that I'm not your friend, but I will be your friend, if you'd let me."
She cocked her head at me, with that glare on her face, "Why are you so keen on helping me? Is this another trick? Another lie?"
I nodded, "Because, at first when I first met you, I thought you were some kind of monster. But...After I spent most of the day here in the city and after knowing the truth about both our races years ago. I began to regret thinking that way about you. I...I felt like I wanted to make it up to you. I just...Feel sorry for you and your kind."
I sighed and rubbed the back of my neck, "I get it, you don't trust other humans other than Wayne and Amanda. I don't blame you, after what happened to you, I don't blame you at all."
Rain snarled, "You don't know what happened to me!"
I shouted at her, "Then tell me! Let me be your friend!"
"I don't trust you at all! I've trusted someone who is just like you, I let him in my life and he called me a monster!"
I assured her, "I will never call you a monster! I never will! And I'll never leave you, I promise!"
She slammed her paw to the ground and thrashed her tail behind her, "Oh really? And do you also promise to never forget me while you're at it?!"
"Rain-"
She sneered, "I won't let it happen to me again! I will not get hurt! I will not feel the pain again!" She was starting to have tears in her eyes and went on, "Well since I know that you're staying here in the city, I hope you have a great time here, for whoever knows how long that'll last!"
She shut her eyes tight as tears streamed down her face. Then Rain started to flap her wings and she took to the skies. I watched her fly over me and shouted for her, "Rain!"
But she didn't stop flying and she flew far up into the night sky. I could hear her let out a roar of pain and sorrow in the distance.
I had a sad and guilty look on my face as I watched her fly until she disappeared from my sight.
Rain...
I'm so sorry.
I'm sorry you lost a friend. I really am.
I was telling you the truth about everything. I'd never leave you.
And I'd never forget you. I wouldn't.
I want to help you.
Please let me help you.
Rain....
