A Biography of a Human.

Chapter Thirteen:

“The Wolf Prince"

Wild are the humans born from afar;

untouched by us children of Animalia.

They, full of spirited vigor dazzle and delight,

Their lack of obedience amuses and pleases."

Do not cane the human if he talks back,

Doing so will snuff out that flowery passion.

Instead rejoice in his unbridled nature,

Celebrate that human willfulness."

-Bai Orin, Wolven poet.

Summer, 3072 years after the anarchy. Sixteenth year of “Marshal Dawning" of the reign of Alpha Wuffrim II.

It's been, what? A month since I went on my little trip? And there I was, standing in formation with the entire Koff household in the outer courtyard of the manor with the warm summer air gliding past my face. My master, the servants, and even the extended family with Neith and Reana and their respective mates to top things off, were here standing as well. I was standing next to Elyk, who finally hit sixteen a few weeks ago. I don't know how I did it, but I kept my gift under wraps and he never found it.

He was very pleased with it and that pleased me! The way his brown-orange eyes seemed to light up when I handed him the book, wrapped in simple cloth which he pulled off rapidly to expose the cover of the gift.

“Xan! This must have cost you a fortune!" Elyk exclaimed, calling me by his pet name for me.

“It did! But it's you sixteenth birthday! You need something really special!" then, feeling a pressure on my shoulder, I looked up to see the orange muzzle of his mother, the ever pretty vixen Iahel who was gazing at my gift.

“Ah, the tales of Reynard! I loved those growing up! And I see you got a true fox version of the tales, Iskander, and not the wolf hogwash!" chuckling at her witty remark about the wolves, I felt like I was apart of the family since it was just the three of them plus myself.

“Iahel, watch you muzzle, we serve the wolves!" Pantaleon spoke in a worried tone which amused Iahel and me.

“Oh, come on dear, we need to have a little fun!" she said as he gave him a playful push.

I had gotten close to these foxes over the years, especially to Iahel. If Gernan was my surrogate father, then Iahel was the mother. What a thought!

I would help the vixen with cooking and cleaning, and one might say a little of her wit rubbed off on me.

But things were not all good, well, at least for me! I had noticed strange things happening to my body as of late. When I took off my clothes I noticed hairs starting to sprout on my body! These things were bothering me very much, but at the same time I was to embarrassed to tell anyone; I even wondered if I was becoming an Anthro! But I put such worries out of my mind and denied they existed. It would get sorted out, just ignore it! But it was getting hard to ignore the strange feelings I had been affected with as well!

A few days after I gave him the tales, Elyk and I were talking and he brought up my gift.

“I really like the tales, Xan, but……."

“But what!?" this was worrying! I hoped I did not waste my claws on this.

“The mating scenes with Reynard and the humans he meets are...!" Elyk burst out into laughter. “Mating scenes!? What is he talking about!?" I thought to myself in my naive mind.

“What!?" I cried.

“Yeah, the scenes where Reynard has fun with the humans are really funny! Just thinking about a fox and a sweaty, smelly human having fun is hilarious! What's wrong with rich foxes and wolves? Give me a vixen any day! I didn't understand why, but this was getting me very mad and also sad. The corners of my eyes were beginning to water a bit at hearing him say that he did not find humans attractive and I did not know why this was upsetting me so much. I wanted to get out of there now, so I said some thing to Elyk and quickly left and ran to my little bed to be alone.

What is wrong with me!? Who cares he if likes humans or not!" I thought to myself as my eyes continued to still water a bit. I was so confused as to why this hurt me so much, but it did. It was like being stabbed in the gut.

Ever since, I had been kind of avoiding the young fox, fearing I would start up again. But here we were, standing side by side waiting for his “Princely Highness" to arrive.

Soon, the door opened and everyone thought it was him, but it was not. it was just Titus Wuji, who was now the Beta Gamma, Gernan's position before he became Prime Beta. Titus was a friend of master's and was no doubt here to also greet the little Prince, who was also his nephew due to the fact his sister is Consort Nu.

Gernan walked up to the other wolf and exchanged pleasantries as he guided him to his side to wait with the rest of us. Both of the court wolves were wearing the informal robes of the officials, that of a long, but narrow sleeved, one piece loose over-robe that went down to the ankles, with slits in the side for mounting a horse and held around the waist with a tight leather belt with gold buckles. On their heads, they were wearing the loose cloth head-covering hat that was tied around their heads and covering the ears and crown of their angular head with excess cloth from the knot at the back, which produced two drooping tails-like fins on the back. This hat, which was apart of informal court wear, was different from the complex cap of the formal robes. Both of their court robes were a dark purple. This was a color used by the top members of the government officials in their informal robes.

Titus was a wolf much like master and other wolves, but he had a more brown, woody look in the color of his fur. He was around the same age as Gernan and was a war friend of his, when Gernan joined politics he brought him along. Another thing of note was he lacked a tail, having lost it in battle, so he was often nicked named Titus “No-Tail" Wuji by friend and foe alike.

To be honest, I did not like Titus at all, in fact, I disliked him a lot! All due to something that happened a few months after the naming ceremony five years ago.

I was playing in the foremost courtyard of the manor by myself when Titus entered, I did not see him as I was playing. Only when his shadow engulfed me did I look up and saw the rather mean-looking wolf glaring down at me.

“Human! You dare not acknowledge me!?" I got up as quickly as a six year old could and apologized profusely.

“You humans lack respect! In the past we would have caned you for that! We would never have let someone like Jao come to power! Give a human an inch and he'll take a mile!" he spat this tirade out with scorn and it was scaring me. The way he looked at me was like I was some kind of a parasite or pest that needed to be killed.

In Titus I saw the cruel wolves from the stories I would hear, that of the human hating brute beasts full of superiority. It was an anger that I had never seen before since being taken away from home, some of Gernan's guests would ignore me with disdain, the city guards loved to flex their muscle towards me when I walked the street alone but it could be argued they were just doing their job; even the wolves who raided Savehaven never showed this level of personal hatred as long as we didn't resist. But Titus gave me the impression, even as a small child, that he would have found something to trigger his anger, even if I had done everything he wanted.

The hulking wolf then paused and his piercing, hate-filled brown eyes focused on my bare, collarless neck.

“HOW DARE YOU!? YOU WORM! YOU TOOK OFF YOUR COLLAR!" he yelled with such ferociousness that it put my master venting at Jao to shame. He then grabbed me by the back of the neck, claws digging in and piercing my skin. As much as I hate to admit it, I wet myself from sheer terror and he then saw this or should I say, smelled it.

“YOU WET YOURSELF! YOU HUMANS ARE PATHETIC!" he snarled with disgusted amusement, all the while I felt my end was drawing near. This was exactly like the nightmares I went through back home, but this was no nightmare, it was real! My only thought was I hoped my end was quick.

He dragged me by the scruff into the manor, my legs dragging against the stone courtyard and my knees banging against the wooden steps leading up into the interior of the home.

I was soon dragged into the study where Gernan was and I got a quick glance of his face as I was being tossed around like a ragdoll.

“ISKANDER!? TITUS?! WHAT IN CANIS'S NAME ARE YOU DOING!?" hearing master's angry voice gave me hope, I knew he would save me!

“MASTER, HELP ME! I DON'T WANT TO DIE!" I screamed out.

“I caught this lousy, human runt outside! He dared to be without a collar!" Titus spoke with pride, not yet realizing that the other wolf was angry at him and not me.

I heard a loud crash and managing to look up, I saw that Gernan had tossed his desk to the side and was not growling fiercely, which made him sound like some kind of monster.

“LET GO OF MY HUMAN!" Titus was taken so much by surprise that he dropped me and my face hit the floor square on my nose. A numb feeling shot up my nose after the initial pain and the feeling of liquid filling in my nose grew and, looking down, I saw drops of blood dripping on the wood panels of the floor.

Looking up as I covered my nose, I saw my master like I never seen him before. His hackles were shot straight up, ears so flat he looked like he had none and those teeth! He looked like a complete monster and if I did not trust him like I did, I would have died from fright!

“TITUS WUJI! HOW DARE YOU HARM MY HUMAN!" the brown wolf collapsed on his knees and began whimpering like a frightened puppy. I am sure if he had a tail it would have been in between his legs right now.

“Forgive me, Prime Beta, forgive me! He did not have a collar!" he meekly said as he began bowing and groveling like a slave.

“He is allowed to go without a collar in MY HOME!" the brownish wolf jerked his head up and looked at the Gernan with sheer shock.

“Y-y-y-y-y-you, what!?" he looked like he could not even wrap his head around this thought and acted like it was an alien concept to him.

“Yes, Titus! Now please leave!" the wolf paused as if he did not know what to do and he looked around all confused and I even saw fear in his eyes when I glanced at them.

“I SAID, LEAVE!" Gernan shouted with a guttural growl and Titus jumped up, bolting out, all the while whimpering as Gernan rushed to my side, picking me up and cradling me. I looked up around the room in a daze and saw an audience in the doorway, that of Pantaleon, Iahel, Elyk, Harold, and Spot all looking worried and confused.

The large wolf above me looked up at them and just growled, this did not need any translation.

“LEAVE"

And they scattered like frightened animals in the presence of the master of the forest, leaving Gernan and I alone as he cradled me close to his chest.

“Oh, Pup! Are you okay!?" the wolf above me had returned to normal, his teeth were gone and his ears stood proud. Finally feeling safe, I unloaded my fear and sobbed into his strong, protective arms.

“There, there, you're safe now. I'm here," his soft words brought me comfort and soon my tears stopped.

Gazing up at his body above me, I noticed a dark red stain expanding on his shoulder. He reopened his wound and now it was bleeding again. I was touched by this, he did this all for me, he really cared for me.

Looking at me, he saw the state I was in, my pants soaked and my nose and mouth caked from my bloody nose. When he saw this, I saw a wave of anger wash over his face before it was replaced by a kind look.

“Come on, lets get you fixed up," he said as he walked my upstairs into his room and spent some time cleaning me up before he left to get me something to eat. I ate upstairs in his arms and afterward he let me sleep with him, knowing it would make me more comfortable.

It took almost four years for Gernan to forgive Titus for what he did to me on that day. He had reconciled with Titus and even had him prostrate himself before me and beg my forgiveness for his transgression. I could tell he hated this so much, but he had to do it to make my master forgive him.

It was strange to have a wolf bow down to me! It made me feel powerful, it felt weird to me at that time but at the same time pleasing. Though I think he was more bowing to Gernan, who was standing behind me, when I think about it now. But still, at that time I felt in control and it was my first taste of authority. Oh, how easy it is to get addicted to that feeling!

But he stayed there until I asserted my right, or should I say my master's right, over Titus. I did this by approaching him and resting my head on top of his own head. His wet nose was pressed against my neck and his furry ears were framing my cheeks. I'm glad I did not giggle from his whiskers touching my neck, that would have ruined the display of dominance.

Then I preformed the final action of this old wolf custom, I gave the best growl that I, a human, could give. Of course, it was nothing like Master's or another wolf for that matter, but it had to do.

Afterwards, Titus got up and Gernan, looking very happy, greeted Titus like he was a good friend again and talking like nothing happened at all.

He would visit occasionally, sometimes both of them would arrive together after court and discus affairs of state with him. He would always look at me with a disgruntled look when ever he locked eyes with me, but he never paid me much heed.

I would sometimes listen in on them when they talked politics. Titus never knew about this. When Gernan found me in my listening spot once after Titus had left, instead of anger he commended me, saying it was good for me to have such an interest, saying it would benefit him.

He soon began teaching me about the government of the Alphate alongside his lessons on the Wolven script, he always complemented me on my calligraphy and my handling of the writing brush. He taught me the basics of the government:

“The Prime Beta is the highest office for a wolf. He is the grand chancellor and oversees the three Chancellors, Beta Gamma for the military, the Beta Delta for internal affairs, and the Beta Epsilon for external affairs. The three are all equal to each other and oversees the rest of the ranks."

As of late, the two of them would discuss the Alpha's first son, Prince Ulric. Since his birth, Alpha Wuffrim has had more pups.

“Prime Beta, we should begin to push for naming Prince Ulric as Crown Prince soon."

“Titus. you can call me Gernan here in my home, this is not the forum! But you are right, we should be bringing this up. It won't be hard, he is the first born son and Wuffrim is fond of him."

“Yes, after he is named Crown Prince we should start asking for my sister to be named the Imperial Mate, as she should be as the mother of the heir."

“Hm, now that will be harder to do, considering the human."

“Yes, but it has to be done! She needs to be named as the Imperial Mate, that way things will be secure for us all!"

“I have no doubt we can do it, but it will take a bit longer for us to achieve that."

“I hear the Alpha is having issues with his body."

“Yes, that is true. He had a fit of blindness in one eye and was very lethargic before he recovered a few days later. Very worrying, but thank Canis, his physician has ruled out distemper!"

“The Alphate is blessed to have you by the Alpha's side! I fear without you the Dynasty would fall into the bald paws of that cursed human!"

So here we were, waiting for the little wolf to arrive. Finally, we heard a carriage roll up behind the gate leading to the street, followed by the sounds of horns and drums.

Soon, the small gate opened and a surprisingly young bear emerged, a eunuch. He looked a little bit older than me, but yet younger than Elyk. Through the open manor gate, I saw a chariot-like carriage, it was a two wheeled thing with an ornate pavilion structure that draped with curtains where the occupant would sit. It was almost like a small market booth on wheels, but much, much nicer looking than such a description would yield in one's mind. These were imperial carriages meant more to display the pomp of the Alphate, not the simple carts and carriages the rest of us use.

The young bear eunuch came forward from the entrance and unfurled he scroll he was carrying.

“Tenth day of the forth lunar month in year sixteen of Marshal Dawning. I, the Alpha hereby decree that my first born pup, Crown Prince Ulric, born of my Chief Wolf Consort Nu of Clan Wuji, be put under the guardianship of my Prime Beta, Gernan of the Koff clan.

May he teach him the ways of both the civil and the martial arts so that he may bring honor to the great eye of Canis and bring prosperity to the Kutlar dynasty and the Alphate.

Respect this order!" he finished. We were all on our knees to hear this order, hearing an imperial order from the Alpha is the same as hearing from him in person, as very physical edict contains the very energy of the Alpha himself.

The young bear walked up to Gernan and handed him the scroll and he took it with such reverence, holding it above his own head. He would no doubt proudly display this order in the manor for all to see.

The eunuch moved to the side and his round ears made slight twitching motions before he again spoke.

“Attention! His most Imperial, Crown Prince of the Kutlar dynasty and heir to the Alphate, Ulric!" soon I saw him, marching in like he owned the world, the prince himself, a five and half year old pup. He was smaller than me by at least a foot and it looked silly seeing him be accompanied by such pomp.

He looked much like his father, gray fur with touches of darker gray framing his muzzle and face and with white fur running along his neck, but he also looked like a puppy has he still had the short fuzz and his head was round, still needing to grow out into the normal adult head wolves have. And don't get me started on those ears! They were so small!

All this, plus with the entourage he had and his silk pants and princely brocade knee length over robe made this all look very silly for someone just out of toddler-hood! I would have laughed, but with all the guards it was not a good idea!

“Respectful greetings to the Crown Prince," we all said in unison, bowing down and waiting to be told to be at ease, which we did not hear immediately.

Looking up a bit in my bowed state, I saw the bear get all wide-eyed and rush to the wolf pup's side and whisper something. The pup gave a “I knew that look" before pushing the bear out of the way.

“At ease!" he spoke with a whiny little voice full of haughty pride.

This will be fun!" I thought, dejectedly feeling I would not be having a very easy time with this little wolf.

Things were not good! The little wolf was as bratty as I thought, going around like he owned the palace and everyone bending to his will, except for Gernan. The moment Gernan entered the room, the little wolf prince became as submissive as a new born pup, much to everyone's happiness.

Why did he have to come here!? Why could the Prince not stay at the palace of the Crown Prince and Gernan go to him!? But then, Gernan would be away all day, everyday, so maybe this is better, I don't know."

The worst part, after his arrogance, was the fact he was taking my master away! Gernan was so busy with that Ulric that he had no time for me at all. I mean, I was his first! I still helped master with his duties and such, but he had no time for me. Always with the Prince, teaching him the ways of the government and of war.

Poor Gernan, he ended up having to repeat his lessons over and over again as the Prince constantly forgot or misunderstood things. Every time he got an answer wrong it looked like Gernan was about to burst into tears, if he could.

And poor Elyk too! He was at his wit's end since Ulric kept on wanting to make the fox his butler, like Pantaleon was to Gernan.

As for me, I had not seen the Prince too much, other than him either ignoring me or me leaving the room just before he arrives and makes everyone bow to him like he does.

One good thing was that young bear eunuch. He was the calm, prevailing head for the Prince, always making sure Ulric did not go to far with his actions and was brave enough to even scold the Prince, much to my surprise!

His name was Dillan and he was about two years older than me. He was the Prince's guardian and personal eunuch companion. It was strange, my first encounter with him, as he was a eunuch and I had only learned a few years ago what a eunuch was and that made them seem different. But he was no different than another person, aside from lacking in certain areas.

Having him around was such a blessing as he had saved us many times from embarrassing situations with the Prince. He was a very able bear and was like a stone statue in his personality. Always stoic and I can imagine he was brought up on the strict palace rules and propriety.

With the Prince staying in the manor, he slept in a master bedroom while Gernan and I had to sleep in a spare room. Such was the custom of Kutlar dynasty members. I could tell master was not sleeping well in the spare bed as he constantly tossed and turned in the night, but he never complained at all about it.

It had been a few days since the Prince has arrived and I had been spending my time taking refuge away from the Prince and his antics at the ancestor shrine in the garden courtyard.

The shrine was a small, enclosed building near the rear of the garden. Inside, along the wall, were the three full-body portraits of the former Alphas, lined up on the central wall of the room and on the other wall were portraits of former members of the Koff clan. One that was particularly prominent was the one of Gernan's former mate, Yena, whose portrait took up the right hall. The she-wolf was wearing resplendent robes of the nobility and gave a serene look in her delicate green eyes, a rare color for wolves.

There were other portraits, but the three of the Alphas and Yena were the most prominent. Along the wall, in front, were tables where candles and incense could be lit, and plates and bowls where food offerings could be placed. The candles were kept alight, while the incense stands lied empty at the moment.

I entered the shrine carrying a few things to keep myself busy with, such as paper and a writing brush and pen to practice my writing in both styles of writing, along with a few books.

Wanting to show my respect, I put the things down and went to the painted figures and gave my respects to their spirits, requesting them to let me stay in their spiritual abode, kneeling and bowing on the flat, floor pillow.

Master was away, attending to court today, so it was only the Prince and the household in the manor.

I spent a while out in the shrine until I heard a noise coming from outside in the garden, it sounded like someone struggling along with branches rustling violently. I wondered if it might be Elyk getting ready to pounce on me when I exit and I, wanting to make him look like a fool, got up and left the shrine, hoping to embarrass him by making him fail in his attempt to frighten me.

As I approached the tree, one of the larger pine trees that had thick branches shooting sideways, that I could see clearly had someone in it, due to the branches swaying and the sound of the foliage brushing against each other.

Creeping forward so I could see the tree more and the occupant lurking within its branches, I was shocked to see it was not the tricky fox at all. It was the wolf Prince Ulric and he was standing on the branch of the tree with a worried look all over himself, ears flat and clutching a side branch like he was afraid of falling. His angular head darting left and right, looking for a way down.

He clearly was stuck and scared. The pup climbed the tree, probably with help of both pairs of claws, as he was bare-pawed and his boots were resting against the trunk of the tree.

The corner of my mouth pulled upwards into a smirk at seeing the Prince in such an embarrassing situation like this and I walked forward pridefully. He got a glance of me immediately and his eyes went wild with desperation.

“You! Slave! Help me!" he cried out.

“I have a name, you know!" I replied coyly, enjoying his predicament.

“I don't care, you are a human! Just help me!"

“Did the little wolf Prince get stuck in a tree?" the wolf immediately looked enraged and his hackles went straight up like he was hit by lightning, but since he was young, he looked like cloud of fuzz.

“HOW DARE YOU!? I am the heir to the Alphate! I am no little wolf!" snickering out loud, I just shook my head.

“Really!? I didn't know that! But you sure do look like a little wolf to me."

“STOP IT! I command you! If you call me that again I will punish you!" I merely rolled my eyes at this remark.

“Oh, no! I'm so scared!" I answered back in mock fear. He was about to yell at me again when he almost slipped and he quickly dropped his anger.

“Just please help me, okay!? Please!" deciding I had enough with offending the prince, I decided to help, reaching out my arms and waking to just below him.

“Okay, I will help. Jump, I'll catch you" Ulric looked puzzled and not happy at this.

“No! You are a human! Humans are weak! You can't catch me! Go get someone stronger! Get Dillan!" I got very offended by this. Who did he think he was!? Well, a Prince of course, but still it got me upset! His life could be in danger and he wanted someone else.

“No, I won't! And not only that, I am leaving you too! Goodbye Prince little wolf!" the wolf pup, forgetting where he was in his blind anger, let go of the tree trunk and jumped up with rage, losing his balance in the process and starting to fall backwards.

Immediately his expression went from snarling anger to fearful shock. Seeing this, I leaped into action and swept with my arm outwards to catch him. It was less than a second, but it seemed like time had slowed down.

Ulric's body soon came into contact my arms and I pulled him inwards which knocked me off balance and I fell backwards. But the Prince was okay as he fell on top of me, cushioning him from the fall.

Even though I found the wolf prince's attitude off putting and annoying, I did not want to see any harm to come to him.

Now I was laying on the ground and he was atop my chest, looking clearly surprised by the soft landing he got. He quickly got up and off me, and I did so too.

Facing me, he stood a foot shorter than me and looked up at me with those sparkling blue eyes of his. I saw he was at a loss for words, looking at and around with a mix of childish embarrassment as he played nervously with his ears in an almost flat angle and tail twitching behind him.

Finally, he looked up at me and held his stare at me.

“Uhh, hmm, thank you uhm, Iskander." he said meekly and calling me by my name, much to my surprised.

Looks like the little wolf is not all bad after all!" I thought to myself, pleased and touched by his sudden display of humility.

“It's fine, don't worry about it! I don't want to see you get hurt."

“Can you please no say anything about this, please?" he said pitifully, with a taint of fear in his voice.

“Of course! I won't speak a word about this!" Ulric perked up instantaneously, looking shocked as his ears stood straight up.

“Really!? You promise!?" I found this really cute, he looked so happy at my action like he never had someone say such a thing to him before.

“Of course, I promise!" I could tell he was really happy now, as his tail was now moving side to side rapidly now.

“Now, come on, lets go inside now," I finished and guided him to the manor.

“Hey, can you help me with my studies while the Prime Beta is away?"

“Sure!" I replied, thinking this would be of help to master if I helped with explaining the running of the empire to him.

“What's the Beta's council again?" Uric spoke, perplexed, sitting next to me on the floor looking over diagrams of the various branches of the state.

“Well, it is the highest power after your father and is his advisory cabinet."

“Uh huh, and the Prime Beta heads it?" the pup answered back, pointing to a box with the word Prime Beta within it with his ebony claws.

“Correct!" he then moved his hand downward to three boxes under the Prime Beta, circling them with his index claw.

“Then, what are these?"

“Those are the three chancellors, each run an aspect of the sate. Internal, external and military affairs and they have subordinates who run departments in line with the field they are in."

“But if they are chancellors, what is the Prime Beta then?" immediately I knew from this why Gernan got so frustrated.

“He is also a chancellor."

“If he is a chancellor why don't they call it the four chancellors?"

“Because he is higher than them!" I said, my voice getting a little raised in frustration.

“Oh, then what does he oversee?" I started feeling like we were starting to go in circles now.

“He oversee the whole Beta's council and is your father's chief deputy and stateswolf."

“Oh, I see now! He helps daddy!" Ulric said in an almost eureka moment.

“That's right!" I said, pleased he finally understood now.

“Okay, but what is the office of the Prime Delta and Prime Gamma?"

Oh dear! This is going to kill me!" I thought as I began rubbing my temples, fearing a headache.

“The Prime Delta is the Office Secretariat and the Prime Gamma is the Examinatory Office." I paused for a moment to collect my thoughts before continuing.

“They deal with the paper work of the state. The Prime Delta drafts initial laws and orders. The Prime Gamma examines documents and correspondence of the sate," looking to the young wolf beside me I was hoping to see he understood what I was saying but he did not.

His head was cocked to one side and was plastered with a look of puzzlement on his wolven face. His forehead muscles were raised and his eyes moving around like he was hoping it would just click and he would understand.

“Okay, I see you are lost so I will put it in simple terms for you."

“Your father, the Alpha, dictates, the Prime Delta writes, the Prime Gamma reads and the Prime Beta acts," immediately I could see I made a breakthrough.

“Oh, I get it now! So the Alpha orders, the Delta writes it, the Gamma reads it and the Beta makes it happen!"

“Yes, you got it!" I said ecstatically, almost jumping up.

“Okay, but what about the other things like the Grand Auditor?"

“One step at a time, Ulric! One step at a time!" I said, not wanting to have to explain that yet. I wanted to make sure what I already taught was retained.

As I got up I, I felt something fuzzy touch my hand, it was Ulric.

“All this stuff is so confusing to me! You know it so much better than me and explain it better than Gernan did!"

“Well, it takes time! But you are getting there!" I said, kneeling down to the pup's level and patted him on his shoulders, to my shock he leaned forward and gave me a lick.

“Thank you, Iskander! I kinda think you would make for a better Alpha than me! Too bad you are human though!"
