KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS

The fur of the canine glistened well in the sunlight as he walked down the streets, his bleach stained blue jeans giving him a clear image as the local town grease monkey, but this was only partly true.  His real skill rested in just about everything from air conditioner repair down to the simpleness of fishing.  Even now he made his way towards the lake so that he could meet up with his close friend.  The deal was that he brought the line and that Josh would bring the pole, but for some reason the buizel had a tendency to forget his part of the deal.  Really, it wasn't that big of an issue where the lake was surrounded by trees and on a crystal clear day as it was right now the most important thing to do was to get down there and see what was going on.

The sound of the cheers, the movement of the water, the kids swinging from ropes only to splash down into the surface of the cool refreshing fluid that made up this lake created a gentle spray from the light breaking of the surface to wake all around across the lake.  It didn't look like this wolf was going to be able to get his chance for fishing today, but just the fact that others were enjoying their time helped to lighten his mood from approaching any form of irritation.  Instead he'd come up against the thick trunk of a tree, the shade protecting him from the beating sun and giving him the place he needed to relax and rest for just long enough to cool his head and figure out the next thing he'd rather do instead.  Even with a deep breath, a long draw of hair lifting his chest just as he let it out from under his "Go Big or Go Home" faded and black shirt.  The words fading from his site while his chest shrunk back down and his arms lifted to the rear of his head.

With his mind at rest and his senses keen the canine jerked at the feeling of a paw lightly pressing itself to his shoulder.  The feeling of the warm hand showing easily through the coolness of the shade he chose to rest in.  Byron had always been a wolf of keen senses, of careful precision.  The idea that he had missed someone while resting there, that he hadn't taken notice of each person here individually drove him to jump a bit, almost lifting himself back to his feet before those blue eyes immediately turned to see who it was that had chosen confront him.  With the sight of this person he'd smirk softly, that smirk rolling into a gentle chuckle and his hand lifting out to grip that person's hand not with just one, but both hands that wrapped around it.

"It's nice to see you again."  He said easily with his soft toned voice.

An easy nod was drawn from the squirrel that looked up at him with a bright smile stretched across those lips.  The wolf knew this person from a long time ago, often keeping an eye on her mostly from a distance.  This canine, this wolf, this dog, could never tell this one individual his true feelings, the idea of rejection always on the tip of his mind, creating caution, creating nervousness, creating fear.  Even while he wrapped his hands around the squirrel's grip he had trouble letting go, his words stumbling over themselves and she caught that instantly with a soft giggle that exited her crimson lips.  The soft gaze she provided him showed that she shared that interest, but she was trying to be more lady-like in this small town and allowing him every single opportunity to break himself of this habit.

"Byron,"  She said with a voice the sound of bells on a sunday evening, "We've known each other since middle school.  Are you still so nervous around me?  You even took me to prom, hun."

"Y-yes ma'am," he stuttered drawing another giggle from the rodent before quickly making up for it with a point of conversation, "I'm just trying to not step on any toes."

She had to smirk at her next though, hearing his words and moving her lips before her brain could have a chance to stop her mouth.  "The only toes I'd want you stepping on are mine, sweety."

The light gasp came from both of them, Byron looking down immediately in a hard blush as he tried to work his wit quickly in order to come up with some form of retort.  He had to figure what she was talking about first, the idea of stepping on her toes, did she mean dancing?  Oh!  The spring festival was coming up at the end of the week, how could he forgot?  There was a dance at the end of it.  Always was.  With his blue eyes lifting again he noticed that the squirrel girl had moved on, no longer standing in front of him but having moved away almost the end of the park.  He could chase her down, but how would that make them look?  He could shout to her, but that might just be awkward and would draw the attention of everyone instead of just a few.

With his lungs once again filling with air the wolf would practically howl to her, calling as loud as he could to get her attention.  What he hadn't been able to see was that she'd scurried away so quickly due to having embarrassed herself in such a way.  Her cheeks were a bright red, almost as red as her lips, but as he called she'd turn, eyes wide and her hand lifted over her mouth in sheer surprise.

"Rachel!  Will you go to the spring festival with me?!"

His voice traveled all over the lake, over the park, over the ears of everyone that happened to be here today.  Soft laughter could be heard, gentle whispers of an inaudible variety hushing while his eyes traced to the owner of each one, but quickly his steps took him to slowly make his way towards her.  This squirrel having started moving herself as she brought herself back towards him.  The soft smile on her lips and she was far brighter in the category of "red" then she had been seconds ago, but she didn't even care.  The brightness of her soft gaze lighting up the field and forcing the two to only see one another while called back to him in her soft reply.

"Of course I will, you silly wolf."  She announced to him for everyone to hear.

She didn't even know if it had started an applause, but she wasn't listening for such a thing.  Her movements picking up speed, the type of quickness that can only be trained through the body of a creature like a squirrel and just as the two were about to collide she'd make a sudden leap towards him, his arms lifting quickly and immediately, a fast twist to limit the rush down to something bearable and with a movement of his feet against the soft grass he'd soon feel his body toppling over and the squirrel landing on top of him with a hard crash against the green knoll that seemed to rise up all on it's own to impact him in the back.  His arms remained around her, even while his eyes stared up at the clear blue sky, but he never let go of her even for a second.  That gentle nuzzling of her soft furred cheek rubbing against his shirt covered chest with her arms curled up under his grip, clinging to him with that soft smile wrapped around her lips.

"Yes... yes I will."  She finally responded more officially, the soft amber gaze of the rodent turning her face towards his own while he stared back at her.

The moment felt so right, so perfect, just the two of them and with a soft lean she could see him coming in, feel his warm breath over her.  Her face flushed, she didn't know what to do, paralyzed with the sudden forwardness from this male, but redemption was in hand as his lips only touched on her forehead.  She looked away quickly, trying to figure out in her mind what had just happened, but her attention was brought back into focus immediately when he lightly tapped his finger over her nose with a smirk in order to explain himself.

A light chuckle lead his words, but even here he spoke softly enough that only she could hear it.  "I can't steal a kiss from such a cute creature until after we've, at least, completed our first date."
