I stared out the window. Outside was a sunny summer day. My body laid on the hospital bed while my mind was somewhere else. Where my mind was I couldn’t say. Ever since I woke up here, I just mentaly wandered away or something. I found it difficult to focus and any thoughts I had never been around for long. I wasn't even aware of how long I have been in the hospital.
The last thing I clearly remember is collapsing at the cleanup site. When I came around, I found myself backed in the real world locked in a hospital room like a caged animal or prisoner. Some people would come in and check on me or to give me meals.
In the distance I hear the familiar sounds of the food cart rolling down the hall outside my room. It stopped outside my room. Guess it was my lunch time. I don’t have much of an appetite anymore but the nurses get upset with me if I don’t eat a little of it.
The door opened. The food cart was pushed inside by an unexpected visitor, the Commander. “I see you are awake, Fisher.”
“Oh hello. What are you doing here?”
The Commander pushed the cart beside my bed, “you are healthy enough to handle visitors, so i volunteer to bring you your meal.”
“You didn’t need to do that.”
“I do,” his face started to scowls, “because we need to talk.”
“Okay.” I responded weakly.
“First off, what the hell was wrong with you?” he yells, “do you not know how many people you worried by disappearing like that suddenly?”
“I didn’t disappear. I told them what I was planning on doing.”
“Bullshit! You were asked to return to the RW after the incident but stayed behind to help with clean up.”
“I was given leave, sir. That means I am able to do what I wanted, so I decided to clean up the aftermath of Regi’s rampage. It was the only way I could think of to make up for my mistake and cause him to digivolve like that.”
“Fisher, how much do you actually remember of the incident?”
“I remember all of it sir, not like I can choose to forget it.”
“Then you should know it is no one's fault that it happened.”
I scowled, “how can you say that sir? Didn’t you read the report that was sent?”
“I did and because of what was on it, I can say it is not your fault. At the time, you had no knowledge you found the Code Keys of Sin or aware of the fact they acted in such a way.”
“Code Keys of Sin?”
“Yes. They are code keys that correspond with the group Seven Great Demon Lords. Using the code keys, it allows a tamer to gain the power of a member of that group however the tamer sees fit. The terrorist group most likely had plans to use the Demon Lords in an attack.”
I was shocked to say the least. I was told about that group when I first started as a tamer. There were powerful Mega level digimon said to be leaders of the NIghtmare Soldiers. From my knowledge, there are very few who can match them in power.
“From what I heard, you and Regi found some sort of list in their hideout?”
I nodded, “yeah but I never got a chance to look at it before turning it in. Was there something special about that list.”
“Yeah. we learned that just having the code keys themselves wouldn’t summon a Demon Lord, they also need a compatible digimon to merge with. And one of the Digimon listed as compatible was MarineDevimon.”
My heart stopped, “So when I handed Regi one of the code keys, he transformed into a demon lord.”
The commander nodded, “specifically he became the Devil Beast, Leviamon. We were fortunate we were able to revert him back into a digi-egg before it,” the commander stopped, as if to choose his next word carefully, “does mass server damage.”
I was silent. I didn’t know how to respond. I know the others made the right call turning Regi back into a digi-egg, but somewhere deep inside of me it hurts. “So how is Regi? Were you able to get the card data out of him?”
The Commander sighed, “and this is the bad news. Once a key data is merged, it is impossible to separate the data now. That key is now a part of Regi.”
“What does that mean for Regi then?”
“Now I need you to keep calm. Since they are fused together, there is a chance that Regi can turn Leviamon again once he hatches. It might be safer for us to just delete him while he is still an egg.”
besides me, the machince reading my heartbeat spiked. “How can you suggest that to Regi, he is my partner.”
“Look would you let me-”
“I can’t do that to him! He stayed with me through thick and thin. What you asking me to do is...is” my chest started to feel tight, i started to choke on my words. The only sounds that came out of me were sobbing.
“Fisher please calm down. I am not ordering you to delete him.”
“But what-”
“I am just giving you some info.” the commander reached into his back pocket and pulled out a digivice. My digivice. “Regi container is connected with your digivice. Rather you delete him or let him hatch is fully up to you.” he hands it to me.
For some reason, my digivice felt slightly heavier than I remembered it being
The commander turns to leave but stops at the door, “i do hope you give it some thought before making your decision. Some other tamers faced similar dilemmas, it would be best if you listen to them first.” he walks out and closes the door behind him.
I stare down at my digivice. On the tiny screen was the stats for Regi. What am I going to do?
