It was morning and Leon was standing on top of a hill, and let out a big roar, hoping that Jade would hear him. But he didn't hear anything. Then Leon yelled at the top of his lungs, "Jade!" He wondered to the bottom of the hill and tried again, "Jade! Jade!"

Then a few lionesses came behind him and stood in front of him, Leon looked at them, "Any sign of her?"

One of the lionesses shook her head, "No, this is getting scary. I know I haven't talked to her a lot but still, she's all alone without a pride."

Leon glared at her and said, "You don't know Jade, like I do. We've known each other for five years. She's fine. Now keep looking, I'm going to farther up north and hopefully I can find her, alright?"

The lionesses all nodded their heads and then went off in another direction, then Leon went up north to find her, then he softly said, "Jade, where did you go?"

Me and Jade woke up about an hour ago, and we drove off in the jeep. Well I seriously hope mom and dad won't kill me for not coming back to the camp last night. It wasn't that bad last night. I hope I can make up a good excuse this time. While I was driving, Jade was just staring at me not taking her eyes off me, I glanced at her for a second, "What?"

She simply said, "Nothing."

Ok Jade has been acting weird this morning, first  when we woke up she gets so nice to me like I was sick or something. And now she's staring at me instead of looking out the window like she did before, yesterday she looked out the window to see how fast we are going. But now she's acting more weird, what gives? I don't know it's just the way she looks at me, I've never seen that look before it was...Different.

But I guess there's no point in dwelling on it, she just cares about me she liked being with me, so what's the point in worrying about it. While I was driving I can see a run down cabin in the distance. I drove towards it.

Jade looked at me and said, "What are you doing?"

Not taking my eyes off the cabin I said, "I'm just checking out the cabin, I've never seen it before." I parked in front of the cabin and turned the car off. Then I turned my head to Jade, "Jade you can stay in the jeep if you want, I want to check it out, it won't be long." I opened my door and got out.

I was going to shut the door when Jade said, "Wait, I wanna come with you."

I looked at her nodded and said, "Alright, come on." Then Jade piled out and I shut the door.

Me and Jade stared at the cabin, man it looks this place hasn't been used in years. I can see several broken windows and even the door looks worn out. Jade said, "Wow this place gives me the creeps, what are we doing here?"

I shrugged, "I don't know, it's just I haven't seen that cabin before, it looks like no one has been here for a while. I know this seems wrong, but I just feel this temptation to check it out."

Jade nodded, "Well I don't care what you're up to. I'm stuck with you."

I laughed, "I thought you say that." I went to the door to the cabin and slowly opened it. We went inside and judging by the smell, it even smells like nobody has been in here for years. I coughed a bit, Jade didn't seem to have a problem. I called out, "Hello? Hello? Is anyone there?" No response. Definitely not home. I shrugged, "Guess nobodies home." We went further in the cabin, a bunch of very old stuff on the shelves were gathering dust, a lot of dust!

I see an very old tv in the corner, I tried to turn it on. No power. I backed up away and saw Jade wander in another room, "Hey don't wander off." I went after her. Me and her are now in the kitchen from what it looks like, and hell even the kitchen's  freakin dusty, mom and Tabitha would have a field day with this!

Jade looked around the corner and found the pantry door, I opened it and saw that it didn't any food in there but some barrels of sort. Jade asked, "What's that?"

I bent forward to inspect the barrels and I could something else other than the dust, it was different smell. Something flammable. I was shocked to find out what it was, "It's gasoline!"

Jade cocked her head at me, "What's gasoline?"

I turned to her and said, "Well lets just say even the jeep needs food, gasoline is something you would feed to the jeep. Or else otherwise we wouldn't drive the jeep anymore. But for some reason there's gasoline in this pantry. Who used to live here?"

I shut the pantry door, and turned around but when I got close to the counter something caught my eye, a faded snapshot photo. I picked it up and then when I looked I saw something on there that shocked me.

Jade looked up at me, "What's wrong?"

I showed her the photo, "Look at this."

When I showed her the photo, her face went wide as well, "What?"

The photo showed a lioness and a human who looked young. But it wasn't just any lioness, but it was Karone! Karone was with a human.'

Jades eyes were still wide, "I recognize that face, I think that's my aunt!"

I nodded, "I think you're right, but why would she be with a human? Did you know about this?"

She shook her head, "No she never told me she was with a human before she was exiled. This is new to me."

My mind just clicked, Wait a minute, does this mean there are other people who are like me? Did that guy talk to Karone and he understands her just like me? I could be wrong maybe he didn't really understand her just like I do. Maybe Karone just became friends with the human and didn't understand what he was saying. Maybe he doesn't have this ability like I do. I looked at the photo again, I don't know they seem pretty close.

I was about to say something else, when we heard the cabin make a noise, this place gives me the creeps!

Then Jade looked nervous and said, "Casper lets get out of here. I don't like this place."

I took the photo with me, and me and her ran out the door back to the jeep. We both got in and I started it. I put it in reverse, backed up, and then I put it to drive and floored it.

Me and Jade got back to the camp a few hours ago, at least my mom and dad weren't mad at me again. But I did tell them what happened to me, and they were shocked that I was sleeping outside the camp. I didn't tell them about Jade though. No need to start something I can't finish.

I told everyone hello and got something to eat, also for Jade. And we mostly sat down in the tent today, I still had the faded photo with me, and here I was staring at it. This really doesn't make any sense, I thought she was so evil that I thought she would hate humans as well. Guess maybe I was wrong huh?

Jade looked at me while she was on my bed, "Casper? What's up?"

I shook my head and lowered the photo to see her, "I'm sorry it's just...I can't get this image out of my head. I mean, I don't believe that your aunt was this nice to a human and she wouldn't harm him. I...I'm starting to get this weird feeling right now."

She cocked her head, "You're thinking that there are other humans like you? That talk to my kind and understand my kind?"

I nodded, "Yeah. I don't get it. What does all of this mean really? Was he just friends with your aunt and never even talked to her like I talked to you? Or did he?"

She shrugged, "I don't know."

I shrugged as well, "I don't know either, but this getting more strange by the minute."

Jade nodded, "I agree. Still I've never heard that my aunt has met a human before."

I said, "Well I guess you didn't know your aunt after all."

She nodded again, and then she yawned, "Look I'm going to take a nap, maybe we'll worry about this later." Then she got off of my bed and went to take a nap on the ground.

I looked at the photo for the last time, then I put it away for safe keeping, then I laid down to take a nap as well.

I took a few hour nap, then I got something to eat at the mess hall again, the sun was starting to set again. That beautiful glow in the sky. I was on my way back to the tent when I found Shawna all alone sitting on a rock. I walked toward her, I waved, "Hey girl, what's up?"

She giggled, "Very funny Casper. You never said that before."

I shrugged, "Well I thought I try to break the ice, nothing wrong with that, right?"

She shook her head, "Nope, nothing wrong with that."

I took a seat beside her, both of us were staring at the beautiful sunset, she said, "Isn't this beautiful? I could watch this all day and never get tired of it."

I agreed with her, "Yep, it is beautiful." I sighed.

Shawna then looked at me and said, "Hey Casper. "

I looked at her, then she said, "Have you ever thought that you a boy from Miami would spend his summer vacation here in Africa, enjoying the sunset? Have you ever thought about it your whole life?"

I shook my head, "Nope never. In fact I'm liking this place so far. Despite everything that happened to me recently, I love it here. I wish I could live here for the rest of my life."

Shawna nodded her head, "Yeah me too. In fact I like this place too. It's better than where I'm from."

I stared at her with a curious look on my face, "Why? Don't you like your home?"

She shook her head, "No, honestly I hate it. There's just so much drama, I can't even stand it. In fact my parents divorced three years ago, and they still fight with each other. I hate going back home, and here I am listening to my dad take long distance phone calls from my mother and yell at her. I'm really tired of it."

I felt a lot of pity for her, my parents never even had a fight for years, I hardly ever do see them fight. But now for Shawna, I really feel sorry for her. I put my arm around her  and said, "I'm sorry Shawna. I...Never knew you went through all that."

She leaned a bit, resting her head on my shoulder, "It's okay. You didn't know."

I decided to change the subject, "So where are you from anyways?"

She answered, "California. San Diego, California."

My eyes went wide, "California huh?"

"Yep, California."

"Wow pretty far away from Miami."

She nodded, "Yeah well, I'm just a American girl from California who's spending her summer vacation here. So what else is new?"

I giggled, "Getting to know you, that's what's new."

Then she looked at me, "Well I like new things. And you know I'm glad you're taking the time to get to know me."

I nodded in agreement, "Yeah well, a little birdy told me you were asking her a lot of questions about me."

She looked shocked, "What? Tabitha told you?"

"Well...Yeah."

Then Shawna turned red.

I laughed hard at her reaction, "Shawna, there's nothing to be embarrassed about. I've just heard you were interested in me. Well Tabitha thinks you sorta like me." Then I turned red.

She giggled, "Well she got that part right."

I turned more redder than before, "How long have you felt this way about me?"

She looked at me and said, "Ever since I've met you, on the first day you came here. Honestly I thought you were pretty cute. I think that's the reason why I've been with you whenever I get the chance. Because I liked you a little bit. Actually what I like about you the most is your gift."

I stared at her, "My gift?"

She nodded, "Yeah your gift. You know your ability to talk to Jade. It's what I like about you the most. It's rather cool actually."

I giggled, "Well it's not everyday that you have a boyfriend that talks to lions all the damn time."

She shook her head, "I don't care. I find you pretty handsome and your gift is cool."

I smiled at her remarks, "You know Shawna....I...think you're pretty beautiful as well. Actually I think I like you as well."

She smiled at me, "Really?"

I nodded, "Yep." Then I looked down at the ground, "To be honest, I never had a girlfriend before, not once."

She grinned, "Well then maybe we should fix that."

We both stared at each others eyes for a while, then we both leaned forward and shared a kiss. We both gasped, then I put my hands to her cheeks and we kissed again.

We both pulled away, and she smiled at me, "Casper?"

"Yeah?"

She stared lovingly into my eyes, "I love you."

I smiled lovingly at her as well, "I love you too, Shawna."

Then we leaned forward and kissed once more.

Me and Casper were running in the savannah, chasing each other. I was chasing him to be exact. "You get back here!" I laughed while I was running, catching up to him.

Casper hollered over his shoulder, "You have to catch me first!"

Then I leaped at him and landed on his back, knocked the wind out of him, I stood on his back my head held up high, "I win!"

Casper hollered over my triumphant cry, "Jade! Get off me!"

I giggled, "Alright, you big baby." I got off of him and he rolled over and sat up. He giggled at me.

I smiled at him, "Casper, you really make me so happy. Did you know that?"

He playfully said, "Nope." Then he grinned.

I used my paw to slug him, "You freakin liar." Then he laughed really hard, and I joined in.

Before we could laugh any longer we both heard a roar, and we followed the direction of the roar and I gasped. I see my aunt coming toward us. I got up on all fours and yelled to Casper, "Caper run! Get away!" I turned to face Karone.

But before I could leapt at her, one of her followers jumped on my back and pinned me to the ground. I barked at the follower on my back, "Get off of me!"

Then I saw Karone jump on Casper pinning his shoulders to the ground, he screamed for help and then Karone leaned down and bit down in his throat, killing him, blood coming out of his throat.

I was in total dismay and fear, "NOOOOO!"

Then I woke up and screamed, "Ahhhhh!" I then breathed heavily over and over again until I realized it was just a nightmare. Oh my god, I just saw Karone kill Casper!

Then I looked up at Casper, who gazed down at me from his bed. My scream woke him up. He said, "Jade? What happened?"

I was speechless, still traumatized from my nightmare. Tears were about to form in my eyes.

Casper got off his bed, immediately going to his knees on the floor with me. When he got his head close to mine, he tried again, "Jade?" A worried look was shown on his face.

I decided to wrap my paws around him and hugged him real tight, tears streaming down my face, "Casper!" I cried out in sobs.

Casper felt me sobbing in his shoulder and he didn't hesitate to hug me tight as well, "It's okay, Jade. It's just a dream, it's only a dream." He comforted me with his hand rubbing down my back in strokes.

I continued to sob on him for a long time.

The next morning came without a problem, of course I was still a little concerned about Jade. She cried into my shoulders for a long time last night. She never told me what it was about, but I didn't press her about it. It might make her sad. In all honesty I've kinda figured out what it was about. She was dreaming about me and something terrible happened to me in her dream. That's why she hugged me tight, and I can't blame her. I don't know what happened to me, but like I said, I didn't press her about it.

I went to the mess hall yet again and as usual got m and her something to eat. AND as usual she loved the food, well at least the food helped her feel better. Which I'm sure it did. We were chatting after we done eating, and then Tabitha came in the tent. "Good morning you two."

Me and Jade saw Tab come in, "Good morning to you too." Then I motioned for Jade, "Go ahead Jade, say good morning."

Jade then looked at Tab and said, "Good morning."

Tabitha laughed and then looked at me and said, "It's cute when she's trying to talk to me."

I laughed as well, "Well give her some slack, at least she said hello."

Tabitha nodded, "Yes, yes she did." Then she came to Jade on my bed and petted her, "I'm sorry Jade, aunty Tabitha won't mock you ever again."

I laughed hard after she said that. While Jade looked at me with a confused look on her face. I said to her, "Nothing Jade, don't worry about it."

Then Jade gave me an annoyed look, "Well I better not worry about it, because if there's something that she said that you're not telling me, I wanna know about it."

I laughed hard again, then I shook my head and petted Jade, "You're cute, you know that?"

She raised her head proudly, "I better be the cutest lioness around, human!"

We both laughed hard, and then Tabitha said, "What are you two talking about?"

"Nothing for you to worry about aunty Tabitha!"

Then Tabitha laughed, "Ok, whatever you say." Then she asked, "So what are guys planning to do today?"

I looked at her and said, "I'm guessing we're going to run around again, enjoy the savannah while day has come."

Then Tabitha gave me a devil of a smile, "You know....I've heard from a certain girl, that you've finally told her how you've felt. I gotta say it's about time. You're finally starting to grow up."

I shrugged, "Well Shawna was alone, and yeah I was starting to like her as well."

She still smiled, "Well I'm glad you went there, you two would make a great couple."

I nodded, "Yeah."

Then Tabitha said, "Hey you know there's a beach nearby that you've probably never been to. I don't think you've been there yet.

I shook my head, "No, but that gives me an idea. Me and Jade could go for a swim or something. That would be fun."

Jade heard my words and said, "Swimming? I don't like water."

Before I could reply to Jade, Tabitha said, "Why don't you take Shawna with you? She might like to swim."

I shook my head, "No I want to be alone with Jade. I don't want Jade to be the third wheel, while Shawna's with us."

Tabitha then had a serious look on her face, "Casper, can I talk to you outside? Alone?"

I looked at Tab but I did not relent, I looked at Jade, "Jade stay right here, I'll be right back. Then we'll leave, ok?"

Jade nodded and then I got up and walked with Tab outside. Then Tabitha turned to face me and said, "Casper, we need to talk."

I shrugged, "Ok, about what?"

"About you and Jade."

My eyes went wide, "What about us?"

Then Tab said, "Casper...Do you like Jade?"

I nodded, "Yeah of course."

Tabitha shook her head, "NO, I mean...Do you 'like' her?"

My eyes went wide with that question, "What does that mean?"

"Come on Casper, you have been with Jade almost everyday of every minute. I'm starting to get this feeling that you're more than just friends."

I raised my hands in defense, "Look just because-"

"Listen Casper, Jade's been clinging to you ever since she came here. At first I thought it was friendship, but now I think it's something else. Trust me, if you didn't understand what she was saying I would have never thought about this, but now it's sorta evident."

I sighed, "Listen, me and Jade are just friends, nothing more than that. Besides that I like Shawna more. And hello she's a lioness!"

She smiled, "I'm sorry bubs. It's just I didn't like where this was going, because once something between you starts, it might not be possible to come back."

I shook my head, "Nothing is happening between us. I mean it."

Tab nodded, "Ok, I believe you."

I nodded, "Good well-"

A voice interrupted us, "Hey guys!" Me and Tab see Charlie coming towards us. A smile on his face.

Tabitha greeted him, "Hello Charlie."

Charlie stopped in front of us and said, "What are you guys up to?"

I said, "Just talking."

Charlie looked at me quizzically, "Talking outside? It's too hot to talk outside. Maybe you should go in your tent Casper. Speaking of which, what's in your tent anyway?" Then he went for the opening of my tent.

My heart was racing, he's going to find Jade! I've got to think of something and quick!

Before Charlie went in, Tabitha stepped in, "Hey you know what Charlie? I think we should get something to eat together."

Charlie looked at her and said, "Well, I haven't eat anything yet, so I guess yeah lets get something to eat." Then Charlie turned around and said to me, "Take care kiddo." Then he walked off.

Tabitha went to follow him and then she winked at me, boy Tab I really owe you big time for that! I went inside the tent getting ready to leave before something else happens.

I drove to the beach that Tabitha told me about, it didn't seem too far away from camp. In fact the beach looked pretty beautiful, the white sand, and the water rushing up the beach. I can't wait to get in the water.

I already parked near the beach and me and Jade just walked on the sand. She was trying to shake the sand off her paw, and I laughed at her, "What's wrong girl, don't like getting your feet dirty?"

She shot a glare at me, "No I do not."

I giggled still, "I figured as much." Then I laid the beach towel on the ground, and then I went behind a tree to change my pants into swimming trunks.

Jade called out, "Where are you going?"

I called back to her, "To change my clothes, I'll be right back!" Not long after that, I came back with my swimming trunks on, "Well what do you think?"

She cocked her head at me, "What are you wearing?"

I frowned at her, "Swimming trunks silly!"

Then she frowned at me, "They look weird on you."

I yelled her name incredulously, "Jade!"

She laughed at me, "Oh relax I was kidding!"

I still have an annoyed look on my face, "You better be kidding, woman."

Jade raised a paw, "Lioness. Not woman. Lioness."

I shrugged, "So what? You're still a girl, aren't you?"

She laughed hard at that, holding her ribs.

I smiled and then I said, "Well I'm definitely in the mood for swimming, you coming?"

She stopped laughing and then looked at the ocean, "I really don't like water."

I gave her a mock stare, "What's wrong? You a scaredy cat?"

She looked at me, "I'm not scared." I looked at her and then she gave in and said, "Ok yeah, I'm scared."

I said, "You're not scared, you're just afraid of getting wet."

She looked at me and said, "Yeah, I've been afraid of getting wet since I was a cub. I didn't swim back then."

I shrugged and said, "Well then I guess I'll have to swim without you. Come in with me if you want." Then I ran to swim in the Indian Ocean.

Me and Casper were at the beach all day, he was doing all the swimming, I didn't do much. I only went into the water once and then that was it.

I was still watching him swim though, he was really good at it. I wish I could swim with him, but knowing me that won't happen.

But while I was watching him, I was thinking about the other day.

My feelings towards him.

I know I didn't tell Casper the truth, he still treats me like I'm his friend. But I feel something more than that, something more than friends. And I really want to be with him. I know I said I love you last night, but I don't think he gets it. He's not following the signs!

But when he's done with swimming and when we are talking on the beach, I'll tell him how I feel.

Yeah, I know I will. I know he cares about me. So why would he say no?

Me and Jade were having the time of our lives, nighttime has come and here we are sitting on the beach together watching the waves and the stars.

We were watching everything, time passed us by, and then Jade broke the silence, "Hey Casper."

I looked at her, "Yeah?"

She looked at me, "You know, I never even knew what's beyond the ocean. Until I've found out your home's far away from here. I gotta ask, are there other places out there other than your home?"

I nodded, and said, "Yeah, there are so many places other than my home. Like Asia, Europe, South America-"

Jade piped in, "Wow, there are so many places!"

I laughed, "Yep, there are so many places other than your home and my home."

Then she said, "Wow, I wish I could see what's out there."

I said, "I wish you could too."

She smiled at me, then she looked nervous and said, "Hey Casper, can I tell you the truth?"

I looked at her, "What is it, Jade?"

She looked down and said, "To be honest...Last night, the reason why I woke up and cried in your arms...I was dreaming about you."

I nodded, "I knew that."

She shook her head, "But I never told you what happened, it...It was horrible."

I put my hand on her shoulder, "Look you don't have to tell me."

She shook her head, "No, I have to tell you." She sighed, "I was playing with you in my dream, then suddenly Karone came and killed you. I couldn't save you." Then she looked down glumly.

I smiled at her, "It's okay, Jade. It's just a dream. Nothing bad is going to happen to me."

She raised her head and looked into my eyes, "How do you know? You don't know that!"

"Because I do know. She won't hurt me. She can't be in your lands anyway."

"What if she did? If something...If something happened to you, I'll never forgive myself, ever."

I still reassured her, "I promise, nothing's going to happen." After staring at me for several moments when my reassurance seemed to have calmed her, she finally smiled at me and I smiled at her back.

Then all of a sudden, Jade got close to my face and then she kissed me. I grunted in surprise and then she pushed me to my back with a paw on my chest. When I was on my back, she got on top of me and kissed me again. I gasped and then pushed her face away from mine. Jade had a guilty look on her face and then she got off of me. Then I got on my feet and stared at her still shocked of what she has done to me.

With shock on my face I said, "Jade?! What did you do that for?!"

Jade looked down at her paws.

I had an angry look on my face and said, "Jade, what's going on?"

She finally looked at me and said, "Oh Casper, I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry! It's just...I love you."

My mouth fell open agape, "Jade-"

She shook her head, "No Casper. I love you! I really love you!"

I shook my head, "Jade...You're just confused."

She shook her head again, "No Casper! I'm not! I've never been more sure in my life!"

Holy shit. Tabitha was right about one thing, and I didn't want to believe it. Jade's in love with me! I never even figured something was happening, but I thought Jade was being my friend.

I shook my head again, "I...I'm sorry, Jade."

She had tears in her eyes.

Then I said, "But I can't be with you, not like that."

Then she said, "But why?! Why can't we be together?"

I said, "Because it's wrong Jade, humans don't do that to someone like you. It's just...It's just wrong."

Jade had tears coming down her face, "But Casper, I'm afraid if I didn't tell you, and if you died before I told you...I'll never forgive myself. I love you!"

I shook my head again, "Jade, I love someone else."

Her eyes went wide at that, "What?"

"I'm in love with Shawna, not you. She's a human and you're not. I just want you as my friend, please understand."

Then she yelled, "But I don't want anyone else! I want you!"

This is tougher than I thought, "Jade, please don't do this. I love someone else, don't make me choose you over her. It wouldn't work out, I know it wouldn't."

She sputtered, "But, but..." Then she turned and ran off in sobs.

I called out to her, "Jade!" Too late she was too far away for me to go after her. And maybe I shouldn't go after her, not with the jeep anyways. Maybe I should leave her alone.

Now I just feel guilty. I've hurt her.

I was crying in my paws at the base of a tree, crying in loud sobs. How could Casper do this? I loved him and he rejected me! I cried out again.

Then I heard footsteps and then I heard a voice, "Jade are you okay?"

I turned my head fast, hoping it was Casper. But it wasn't and then I gasped, "Leon?! What are you doing here?"

Leon came to me and lowered his head to mine, "I could ask you the same thing, what's wrong? What are you doing out here?"

I looked away from him, "Nothing just go away!"

Leon shook his head, "Jade, what's wrong? Tell me." Then he smiled at me.

I sighed, "I fell in love with someone and then he rejected me."

He shook his head at me, "Oh, is that why you ran away from home? To be with some other lion?"

I got up on all fours and screamed at him, "NO damn it! I fell in love with Casper, the human!"

He gasped, "Jade you can't be serious."

I shook my head still glaring at him, "I don't care what you or father or anyone says, I love him!"

Leon said, "Jade he's a human, you can't be with him like that."

I shook my head again, "I don't care, Leon."

Leon took a step towards me, "Jade maybe you should come home, you've been gone for days. Your father's very worried about you."

"I don't care! I hate him for how he treated Casper!"

"But he feels guilty Jade, and he's not the only one. I should have stood up for him just like you did, but I didn't. I'm sorry Jade I really am."

I shook my head at him, "Nothing's going to change now. Casper doesn't love me."

Leon shook his head at me, "No, he does love you, just not the way you wanted it."

I nodded, "I know."

Leon took another step towards me, "Look there's something I have to tell you, before you go and run off again. And no I'm not telling you to go home with me. It's something else."

I glared at him, "Then what is it? Just tell me and go home already!"

Then he locked his lips with mine, I gasped into his mouth. Then he pulled back, he smiled at me, "I love you, Jade."

I took a step back, very shocked. Wait, what? He loves me?! "What?"

He said, "Look Jade, I should have told you this five years ago, but ever since I met you, I liked you. I liked you for a long time."
