Loria's Hunt (Collaboration)
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
Loria's stalking a butterfly! :3 Fortuna drew it, and I wrote the story:
"Now now Loria, hold still!" Ellora admonished her little hatchling, trying to finish licking her snout clean after the morning meal, but she squirmed and peeped in complaint, trying to wriggle free, she wanted to go play! Her two siblings were already finished, Neth settling down, placid, on his mother's back while Taran chased father's tailtip back and forth around the chamber, letting out high piping roars as he pounced at it, narrowly missing a few times before catching it. She squirmed again, squalling unhappily in impatience, then finally mother was done; "there! Go have fun now, little one."
Loria lept out of her forepaws more than let herself be put down, and glanced at the rest of her family before letting out a little indignant growl and padding to one of the outer chambers. She knew she wasn't allowed to go outside alone yet, but prowled over to the cave entrance anyway, sitting back on her haunches and looking outside, taking in the scents and colors of the forest clearing. Nice and calm and quiet here, away from her loud and rambunctious brother, and father's even louder footsteps and playful growls as Taran chased his tail. Her little sides belled out briefly as she took a deep breath, wings fluttering--able to glide a little now, but not ready for flight; even still, she liked the feeling of the wind on them, the breeze pushing them back a little so she could flex them forward against it...
There was a flash of color over her shoulder, standing out against the grey stone of the cave, and her head snapped around--one of her brothers! ...no, it was the right color for Neth, but too small, and it was up in the air! It looked almost like a leaf, but so brightly colored, and bisected by a tiny joint in the middle... its two sides flapping, not just floating on the wind but flying! After a few moments the tiny creature, barely larger than one of her paws, descended and landed on a nearby outcropping of rock, those big wings slowly flexing back and forth.
"Rrrrr?" she slowly turned towards it, moving slowly and quietly to make sure she didn't scare the little thing, whatever it was... It remained still aside from the slow flapping of its wings, though, and she examined it more closely as she approached, cautious not to scare it away. The wings were huge compared to its body, bright orange, and as thin as a leaf but nearly rigid, flexing around a narrow black cylinder of a body. Despite the size of the wings it still seemed tiny, just because of how thin and dainty and fragile it looked!
Loria continued to creep closer, though, pupils widening as she stalked the creature, watching for any sign of it moving from its perch... She inched towards it, step by silent step, doing all she could to avoid detection... nearly close enough to touch it now!
"Grrraaaaar!"
She let out a little startled cry and looked up as Taran scampered towards her, then saw her 'prey' and leapt at that instead! It fluttered away immediately, rising up into the air after her brother startled it... "No!" she cried, and sprang upward, swatting at it with a paw, wings flapping uncertainly, but it was already too high up for her, and after a few moments it drifted back out of the cave. "Rrrrrrrr!" she rounded on her loud, clumsy brother, glaring; he'd ruined her hunt! But he just took her growl as an invitation to play, and crouched and wagged his tail for a moment before pouncing at her with a little roar of his own.
"Grrrr!" She evaded his fast but obvious lunge, dancing around him and then tackling him once he'd shot past, batting at his shoulders and chest and gnawing on his neck with little hatchling teeth, wrestling across the cave with him as they fought for the upper hand, before she felt his greater weight taking away her advantage and leapt free. He came after her again, but this time she just slapped at him before bounding away, grinding her teeth in irritation... Next time she'd catch the creature, and wouldn't let her brother interfere!
