Deer
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
While it may no longer be October, spring or summer it’s always “spooky season” here!
With that, I bring you yet another traditionally created animal piece. This piece was actually a commission where I had the joy of having full artistic freedom 💕. Knowing the commissioner closely, I wanted to pick something that would matter closely to them and that choice was a brilliant buck. Family has always been something integral to the commissioner and similarly when it comes to deer - family is everything as most groups stick together, similarly to many other family systems in the animal kingdom; deer are primarily a matriarchal social system with most family groups comprising of does and their fawns as well as young does from the previous year, occasionally some young bucks may also join some groups during the summer. In large herds, there generally are multiple family groups that make up the herd. Similarly Bucks will also form groups although these are generally temporary bachelor groups for the spring and summer. With both bucks and does of all ages coming together during the winter season.
For the commissioner, deer have an even deeper meaning as they are something that have closely affected their life and been tied in deeply throughout the years. Which was a further reason for choosing this piece. Initially, there were other aspects I had intended to add to this piece to make it more horroresque but due to time constraints the final idea changed. Despite this change I actually really enjoy the final piece that came out with some of my personal favorite aspects of this piece being the antlers and antler sheds.
This piece was created with graphite pencil (#graphitepencil) on canvas panel, and is happily now framed in it’s new forever home ~ 💕
