This piece was from an artist's discretion opportunity from NightLineZ who wanted to make a full series of partner images for all of the Pokemon starters to date! I saw the opportunity when it was new and took a loooong time jumping on it, largely because money had been a bit tight and I didn't want to take a spot from someone who might want a particular starter (because NightLineZ was doing just one piece per starter). After several rounds of updates, Turtwig still hadn't been claimed, so I finally pulled the trigger. ^.^ Separate from my favorite Pokemon out there, (and similarly my favorite RL species out there,) I've always said that I think Grotle is the Pokemon I personally and most like (and turtles as my simlar species in RL). So that's why this was the one on this series I was holding out for!
One really fun detail I like about this piece - in addition to how NightLineZ tapped into Ara's archaeology interest - is how he's found a ThunderStone, which is a callback to both of the Pokemon pieces that NightLineZ has done for me before! (i.e. the Joltenroc attack art and the SkyNero/Raikou TF piece)
