KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS

So I was sitting in Starbucks (surprise surprise) when I decided to start typing out the beginning of a new story I had swimming around in my head. What you see below is what I managed to get out before I stopped and realized something, I was creating a new world (a fantasy one with magic and who knows what else) and I have no idea how to go about doing that. Usually my stories/chapters are spur of the moment things with vague outlines and plot direction. I realized I can't do that with this story or I would get too carried away with telling the reader about the world. I could possible turn this into a one time short story where the details of the world at large are not as important but I kind of want to take it further.

But, whatever. What is below is really just the opening scene but please tell me what you think.

*PLEASE tell me what you think, whether it's boring, too long/short, not enough action/drama, or if there is something you dislike or whatever. You can do it anonymously at http://iwontbyte.tumblr.com/ask so be as honest and brutal as you want :D

==============================================================

Tavi sat on the fallen tree in what became is favorite place to retreat when he wanted to be alone. It was far enough off the beaten path that no one would be able to find it and he made a habit of taking a different route to get here each time so no one could track him. The fallen tree made enough of a clearing that he could stretch out a lie down if he wanted to, which he did sometimes. The foliage above provides welcomed shade from the sun and the few beams that did manage to get through illuminated the place in a peaceful glow. The golden beams of light sparkled and danced across the forest floor as dust floated through them as the sun made its trek across the blue ocean above. Birds and other creatures could be heard going about their daily lives around him, calling out to each other or rustling in the bushes around him.

He straddled the old log and leaned back on his paws to bask in the warmth of a sunbeam that managed to creep its way besides him, his tail swaying lazily off the side of the tree and his ears perked up to catch as much warmth as he could. The white fur that covered his chest and the rest of his body glistened under the shower of the bright light and the black stripes that wound their way about his body absorbed the sun's energy warming his skin. The dull colored beads around his neck sparkled when they caught the light. This place had become his sanctuary for peace and relaxation, but at the same time it reminded him how alone and isolated felt. Cut off from the rest of the world in here it felt like a cage at times, one that he struggled to escape from and was scared at what lie beyond.

About what the rest of the tribe was doing....

A loud cracking noise from beneath him caused his ears to flick backwards and jarred him out of his depression. He looked down and cursed himself for letting his emotions get the best of him again, his tail now beating the side of the tree agitatedly. It had leaked out pretty far cover the top of the tree and spreading to the ground below. He sat himself up and rubbed his paws together feeling how cold they had become, his pads were almost numb. Another crackling noise behind him made him look back at what he had done. A layer of ice had formed over the surface of the tree where his paws were and even parts of the ground were frosted over.
