\n This is the second part of the two-part chapter from Jase's point of view. Next week will begin Eryth's two part chapters.

\n

\n :iconErythWolf: and I both appreciate your comments and all that jazz. Enjoy! -kergiby

\n

\n The door clanged against the wall as it slammed open and I was greeted by stale, metallic air that got in my system, leaving me unable to do anything but cough it out.. The room was devoid all light. Even emergency lights couldn't breach the darkness that I was delved into. I turned on my flashlight and... nothing. Absolutely nothing. I stepped back out for a second and the light turned on. But in this room... nothing. The darkness was absolute and that scared me.

\n

\n

\n

\n That doesn't mean to say I'm scared of the dark... but this wasn't your conventional dark. This was something worse... Something sinister that crawled into the back of my mind and hatched ideas of Isaac dying at the hands of the beasts. I heard Isaac's screams again, coming from beyond the hallway.

\n

\n

\n

\n "Fuck," I muttered to myself looking into the darkness and sighing. "It's for Isaac. It's for Isaac. It's..." I sighed and ran into the hallway screaming at the top of my lungs to let adrenaline overtake my system and flood my brain with enough stupidity to venture into the blackness of the corridor. The darkness swallowed me and held me close, drawing short my breath and stagnant the air around me.

\n

\n

\n

\n "What the hell is this?" My thumb pressed the button on my flashlight and there was nothingness... "Wait, didn't I already try this?" I looked down and saw nothingness. I looked back, and nothing. Front. Nothing.

\n

\n

\n

\n Nothing. Nothing. Nothing.

\n

\n

\n

\n "What the hell is going on here?" I said, running again.

\n

\n

\n

\n I wasn't sure where I ran. I wasn't sure if I was even going anywhere... but I was moving. I'm not sure where I was moving... But I was definitely moving somewhere.

\n

\n

\n

\n "Jason!" I heard Isaac's voice again, louder. It cracked and stopped short."

\n

\n

\n

\n "Isaac!" I yelled, cupping my hands to my mouth. "Hang on! I'm coming!" I ran toward the direction of the scream, my legs working hard, propelling forward with each push.

\n

\n

\n

\n "Jason, help me!" His voice was behind me now. I adjusted course and sprinted toward him for a few seconds before I heard it again from my side. And again from behind me. And in front of me, right in front of me. Everywhere.

\n

\n

\n

\n Oh, God, his... screams were everywhere! "Isaac!" I yelled as loud as I could. Then I heard barking. Snarling.

\n

\n

\n

\n Everywhere. Red eyes, rising out of the depth of the darkness and move towards every scream. The eyes swiftly got closer to the sources of the screams and the screams for help became twisted into screams of terror. Into screams of torture. His cries of pain filled my ears and my heart beat faster.

\n

\n

\n

\n "No!" I screeched, knowing no one could hear it. I collapsed onto my knees and screamed again, when I felt my wrists and ankles being grabbed by the darkness itself, pulling me toward it as I thrashed about, screaming. It pulled me into the blackness and grabbed my neck, going down my throat as I coughed and choked. I felt it spread out inside me, filling my throat and choking me as I thrashed about and fought. I felt my face being covered by the darkness and I finally realized it was useless.

\n

\n

\n

\n I wonder what it's like to die again...

\n

\n

\n

\n * * *

\n

\n

\n

\n I opened my eyes and looked at the slaughtered hounds at my feet. I saw the blood on my hands and furrowed my brow. I looked back to the door... but it wasn't there. It was completely gone. I jogged to the wall and felt it. it was entirely smooth, there was never a door there. But then how the hell had that just happened? How could-- What happened? I was just in a hallway, and now I'm... where am I?

\n

\n

\n

\n "What the hell?" I looked around and saw the generator room, same as before. I turned to my left and saw the generator that seemed to be jammed and walked over to it. It looked like all that was stopping full power from being was a large metal pipe. I grabbed one end of it and placed my foot on the side of the generator, pulling hard, grunting with effort.

\n

\n

\n

\n "C'mon!" I pulled as hard as I could and it finally snapped out and the turbine spun, slowly at first, but then faster and faster and the plant's bright fluorescent bulbs flickered to life, illuminating the previously dark. The bay doors I thought were walls opened with metallic screeches that pressed my ears flat down in pain. I walked through the large doors with a slight limp as blood dripped down my leg. I passed the destroyed container on my left and tried to ignore the creatures crushed beneath it. My hand still clenched tight around the pipe that was jammed in the turbine and I used it to support my weight.

\n

\n

\n

\n The walk through the factory was slow but I made my way through the plant. I couldn't see any other living hounds. They were gone. All of them. Gone.

\n

\n

\n

\n It terrified me.

\n

\n

\n

\n "Isaac!" I yelled.

\n

\n

\n

\n "Jase!" I heard Isaac yell from beyond the door to a stairwell.

\n

\n

\n

\n "Are you okay?"

\n

\n

\n

\n "Yeah, Jase, I'm fine. How 'bout you?"

\n

\n

\n

\n "I'm alive at least. Can you get through the door?" I asked, pressing my white fur against the cold metal.

\n

\n

\n

\n "No. It- It's locked or something," he said, giving a shove for effect.

\n

\n

\n

\n "Alright, let me see what I can do," I said shoving my shoulder against the door with all my weight behind it. I groaned and gave more than the door but I tried again to no avail.

\n

\n

\n

\n "Fuck. Alright, gimme a sec and I'll think of something," I said. My eyes wandered on the door trying to find a weak spot until I came across the hinges that held it in place. I held the pipe tight and hit the hinges with it repeatedly, loud clangs ringing in the open space. Nothing.

\n

\n

\n

\n "Shit. I can't get it." I pounded my fist on the door and screamed.

\n

\n

\n

\n "It's okay. I'll... I'll find some other way around," he sighed.

\n

\n

\n

\n "No. Stay there. I'll find a way to get through this door."

\n

\n

\n

\n "Okay."

\n

\n

\n

\n "I'll be right back," I said, turning to look around the open floor. There wasn't much there but a few boxes and two doors. I checked the first to see a lone rat chewing on something. I closed it and started toward the other door. I heard a static on the strap of the backpack on my chest.

\n

\n

\n

\n "Jason?" I heard through the static.

\n

\n

\n

\n "Yeah, I'm here," I said, pressing the talk button on the walkie talkie. I had forgotten about it in all the fuss.

\n

\n

\n

\n "Okay. I was just... making sure. I'm a little scared," Isaac said, voice shaking slightly.

\n

\n

\n

\n "I know. I'm pretty shaken too," I said, turning the handle on the door. Inside was a small table with chairs around it, a sink and some small appliances. There wasn't much there in terms of anything useful. The door to the fridge was torn completely off and blood was spattered on it.

\n

\n

\n

\n "What do you see?" Isaac asked.

\n

\n

\n

\n "A break room. There's nothing here." I looked around, seeing nothing of any great use.

\n

\n

\n

\n "Keep looking."

\n

\n

\n

\n "I will." I checked the cabinets and saw nothing. Open another cabinet and more nothing. "Shit."

\n

\n

\n

\n "What's wrong?"

\n

\n

\n

\n "Just... nothing. I can't find anything. This is pointless!" I said, kicking a cabinet door. It fell down with a thud and I looked down, seeing words written on it. "Hang on..."

\n

\n

\n

\n "Jason," Isaac said. "What's going on?"

\n

\n

\n

\n "Hang on for a second, let me figure this out."

\n

\n

\n

\n I opened the other cabinets and found words written in the same handwriting. I grabbed them and tore them off, leaving all of them on the floor so I could see them all at once.

\n

\n

\n

\n "What is going on there?"

\n

\n

\n

\n "There's this.. writing on the back of the cabinets."

\n

\n

\n

\n "Are you kidding me?" Isaac said.

\n

\n

\n

\n "No, I'm not. It sounds stupid but I'm serious!"

\n

\n

\n

\n "Well what does it say?"

\n

\n

\n

\n

\n

\n "Dear traveler, the town you are staying in was not always the state you find it in now. It was once thriving and full of life. The people here laughed and played and raised families same as any other town. But the Hellhounds ruined that. It started off as a single dog from the desert that would feed on scraps. But then there were more. And more. And with each passing day they grew fiercer and fiercer. Until the day they overtook everything. They destroyed the people of the town. Consumed by the hounds, the town fell into disrepair and the plant became the feeding grounds for their evil. Be wary, traveler, for these beasts are not to be trifled with. Do not hesitate to finish them. The key to help your friend is in the couch to your right. -Wandered."

\n

\n

\n

\n "Jason," Isaac said.

\n

\n

\n

\n "Yeah?"

\n

\n

\n

\n  "Did it really say that?" he asked.

\n

\n

\n

\n "Yeah.. it did," I said, checking the couch. In between the two central cushions was a key. "You've gotta be shitting me..."

\n

\n

\n

\n "What?" Isaac said.

\n

\n

\n

\n I started toward the door and said, "It's a key. There's an actual key in the cushions."

\n

\n

\n

\n "Well, get back over here and try it out then!" he said. I picked up my pace and ran to the door, sliding the key in with ease. I pushed the doors open and Isaac jumped out. He paused and recoiled at the sight of my blood covered torso. His lip quivered and for a second I thought he was going to throw up. He slowly moved closer to me and I opened my mouth to explain but he just wrapped his arms and murred. I could feel him shaking ever so slightly but we smiled for a second before feedback from the walkie talkie's proximity to each other broke us apart so we could turn them off.

\n

\n

\n

\n I smiled so profusely at Isaac, grabbing and holding him close to my chest. He fought for a second with his face deep in the blood-soaked fur but he relaxed in my arms and I even felt him purr.

\n

\n

\n

\n "You're covered in blood and could really use a shower, Jase," he said. I just giggled and squeezed him tighter.

\n

\n

\n

\n "Thanks for throwing those rocks to save me, Iz."

\n

\n

\n

\n "What are you talking about?"

\n

\n

\n

\n "After the crane, didn't you throw the rocks that distracted the hounds?"

\n

\n

\n

\n "... No."

\n

\n

\n

\n "I did," a deep voice said. I turned around and saw a cloaked figure approach.
