Tom glanced at his phone again. It was five minutes to 20 and Kevin was nowhere to be seen.
He pocketed his phone back into his jacket and leant on the wall behind him. The library was still open, but he didn't want to be inside where Kevin might think that he wasn't coming. He looked at the night sky, the moon a crescent above the buildings. They were close to winter.
Truthfully, he had a dilemma about this. On one hand, he really wanted to try this new thing, going out with someone who might actually return his feelings. But on the other hand, he was super cautious and confused; he didn't know Kevin at all and he didn't know if he could do this. Their first two meetings were… let's just say they hadn't really been pleasant.
There was also another hand, though. Maybe he was a bit kind of sort of looking forward to… having his first experience with… having sex.
Fuck it, Kevin was hot and he was sexually attracted to him, okay?
Although, based on their previous meetings, the red wolf was someone he preferred to not have anything to do with. He was brash, instinct-based, and overall acted like a jerk. But this morning was… how could he say it, weird. The red wolf outright asked him out, drunk he might be, but still he was straightforward about it.
He said what again? Tom was cute?
The grey wolf almost flustered at the mere thought of it.
What if he were really drunk this morning and decided that tonight wasn't worth it? What if he weren't coming?
Tom's ears drooped; he wouldn't be surprised. He set his expectations low anyway. Maybe they'd hang out tonight, maybe go to a pub, drink, flirt, maaaybe have sex, then go home. And they would forget this night as if it never happened. His anxiety was barking at him to go back to his dorm, but the wolf was too upset to care. Work hadn't really been enjoyable today.
He crossed his hands above his chest as the cold autumn breeze swept past him.
Looking at the road again, this time he saw someone was walking towards him.
“Hey, cute stuff." Kevin approached him, stepping up the stairs. Good thing he was sober enough to wear proper attire tonight. “I wasn't long, was I?"
Tom stared at him and frowned. Great.
“Stare at me all you want, or you want to get on to touch me?" The red wolf said, snickering.
The grey wolf, though, was having none of it. He looked away in exasperation and let out a sigh. “You know what? I reckon I just go back to my dorm and forget about tonight, ya?" he turned around and started walking away. No way was he having that Kevin tonight.
Kevin caught his hand before he could walk away. “Fuck, Tom, wait—"
Tom sighed and turned around, crossing his arms. “You know, Kev? Let's just be honest, okay." He took several steps back to be able to see him right in the eyes. “You were honest this morning, I really appreciate that. But I know you were drunk, so my appreciation faltered a bit, but still, I appreciate that."
Kevin looked at him, this time his face was more serious. Tom looked away, unable to look at him.
“But, you know, I have this… ability to read people easily, and I can tell that you're just a jerk who's looking for a one-night stand, someone to shag. And, we're incompatible. You're brash, I can see that, you act on instinct, but bad instinct. And there's also one more thing,"
Kevin was still staring at him. Tom was surprised at how quickly his mood went down just by those words the red wolf uttered. One minute he was looking forward to this, the next he didn't want this to happen at all and thought he should distance himself from the red wolf.
“I'm not even gay, so if you want to even have a chance with me, you need to try hard. You're hot, I know, but there's no point in mastering maths in a language class."
“Are you lying just to get him to get away from you?"
The red wolf gulped, his hands hidden in his dark blue hoodie pocket. His gaze was sharp; he looked like he was punched. Tom held his ground, still not looking at him; he knew he really shouldn't say those things but he was really, really not into bullshits right now. Work had been tiring, and his emotions hadn't really been in a good order today.
He was kind of afraid that the red wolf would just turn around and walk away, maybe even land a punch or two. But punches were his friends, he'd had lots of them, so it didn't scare him.
Even if Kevin decided to just walk away, he'd just shrug and forget him.
“Okay." The red wolf said, running his hand through his hair. His voice made Tom turn to look at him. “Okay, look, Tom," he sighed. “Look, I'm sorry, okay?"
Tom took a step back, his ears going up a bit. Wow, he was relieved that the other wolf didn't go away. He even bloody apologised. He looked away again at the honesty on the other's face. “None needed. But really, you shouldn't change yourself just to get closer to me, I'm sure there're lots of guys who look up to you." Tom said, his voice getting softer.
“Tom, listen, you're cute. I like you a lot. But seriously, if you're really not gay, why are you here at all? You could've just simply… not went here."
He chuckled a bit, but there was no humour in it. “I work here at the library. Besides, I don't make promises I can't fulfil. I said I'll wait here till 20, here I am. You were asking nicely this morning, so I couldn't say no." he sighed and looked at the other wolf. “Anyway, I honestly wouldn't even consider myself to be cute."
“Well, you're cute. You also look kind of hot; I prefer having smaller partners. And, um…" Kevin looked away. “I think your accent is hot."
Wait… what?
I bet you got lots 'o chicks because of your accent, he remembered Max saying.
His mind spluttered. Was his accent really that hot? Seriously?! Was it hot enough to make this Walking Sin attracted towards him? Was his accent hot in the first place?
“I really have to ask, is that really?" He chuckled at the bigger wolf, this time a more genuine one.
“Yeah… I think it's hot." Kevin scratched his head. “Uh, yeah."
“Stupid twat." Tom laughed a little. “Come here, Kev."
The red wolf did so and stepped closer. He lowered his head when Tom gestured to him.
Tom lowered his voice and whispered. “I want to see you cum in bliss while I fuck you senselessly."
Kevin shuddered, even his ears flattened. He took a step back and gripped his ears, his tail wagging behind him. “Tom! Fuck!"
Tom, though, was laughing. “Seriously? You got aroused just because of my accent? That's got to be the weirdest thing I've ever encountered." He beckoned him to follow him. “So, where are we going?"
Kevin did so, stepping down the stairs and walking next to the smaller wolf. “The pub down Harry Street."
“Sure." The grey wolf chuckled. “Don't excite yourself before we get there. We want to talk, kan?"
“I won't," Kevin snorted. “but no promises."
“You know, it's kind of interesting how you went from an alluring, boastful lad to the one blushing."
“Bullshit."
“Anyway, you also find me hot, how exactly?" the grey wolf put his hands in his pockets. He was glad that he wasn't the one blushing, and tonight he felt more… confident than usual. He was anxious, hella anxious, but not as anxious as usual. Probably because Max had taught him how to have more self-esteem. “I mean, to be honest, you're one of the hottest guys I've ever met. Compared to you, I look like a child. Don't get that over your head."
Kevin was regaining his confidence, though. He put his arm around Tom's neck and said, “You're not as hot as me, I know, but I dunno I just find you hot."
The grey wolf shuddered at that. He could feel Kevin's strong arm wrap itself around his neck. “I can't say that to you in the same sense, though." I can say I like this, though.
“Aw, wolfy, I can make you say that."
“Not interested."
Kevin pulled his hand back. “You're lame."
“But you like this lame self, so am I really the one to blame?" He rolled his eyes, a bit missing that arm around his neck. “How about this, be nice to me tonight, and I might start to think of you as my friend."
“Seriously, just a friend?"
“I'm not gay, so good luck." He shrugged, the lie escaping his mouth so easily. It would come back sometime later to bite him back, he knew it. “Maybe the least I can do is to talk while you fap to my accent. Wouldn't you like it?"
“Tom, what the fuck?"
The grey wolf rolled his eyes. “Okay, so are you a top or bottom?"
“Top." Kevin gave a sigh. “Wait, if you're not gay, how did you know that?"
“I did my research, thank you. Besides, I'm a nerd, remember? It was your own word. Being a writer has its perks."
“Really?"
“Wouldn't it be fascinating to see the big bad red wolf getting raped and fucked by a dildo in the arse while having his snout closed off by a gag and his body all roped up?"
“Tom, what the fucking fuck?!" Kevin gripped his own arms and groaned, almost a moan. “Seriously? How the hell can you be this kinky?!"
Tom looked over his shoulder and laughed when he found that the red wolf was grimacing, his ears pinned down and his tail wagging uncontrollably behind him. It was really amusing, one second Kevin was a jerk with an ego as big as the planet, the next he was whining and lost all his charisma.
He looked lower and found a tent in the red wolf's jeans. He laughed and looked back to his road in front of him. “Sure gotten you excited, haven't I?"
“Tom, I swear—"
“What, doing me all of that? Sorry, not interested." His tail wiggled a bit. “I don't know, usually I'm the nervous wreck whenever I meet someone new, but right now I don't feel like it. Maybe because I'm not really expecting much tonight." His shoulders sagged a little as his ears flattened themselves. “Sorry, though. I should've watched over my words."
“I guess... we're both to blame." Kevin chuckled, this time without the boasting tone. “Really, though, you know what I think?"
Tom shrugged. “Nope. I know we've just really met literally a few minutes ago, but I've never done this."
“Okay, actually I—wait, you've never done this?"
“Yeah. I've never had a one-night stand before." His tail wagged a bit as he put his hands into his pockets. Wait, he shouldn't tell him that. “I don't usually go out with people I don't know, but you were asking me nicely, so yeah."
“You think I'm nice?" the red wolf laughed a bit. “I'm anything but nice."
“I know."
“You know?"
They passed the main gate to the campus area and walked a little bit to the bus stop sign. Tom let out a sigh, leaning back on the sign. He eyed Kevin; the red wolf seemed curious. He knew the red wolf was an easy guy to read yet it proved to be a challenge for him. He was hot, Tom knew that, but he was also handsome, and possibly dumb—er, not very smart. A typical jock.
He had more experience dealing with the unknown rather than with the known. Kevin was easy to read, almost too easy. He seemed brash, pushy, aggressive, short-tempered as his colouration would suggest, and most of all, athletic as fuck.
But that was just himself, wasn't it? He was the one having difficulties dealing with Kevin because he was so easy to read.
Or maybe it was just him again. A person was still a person, and there must be more to Kevin than what he could see.
“I know you're not a 'nice' guy," Tom looked away, “no one is. I'm a nerd so don't judge me for being too deep." he said, his nervousness seeping in. “At first glance, you're... well, let's just say you live up to the jock stereotype. But I'm sure there's more to you than just being a dumb jock."
Kevin didn't reply. For a while, he thought the red wolf was debating whether to just leave him or not, but when Tom looked at him, his face was serious. He continued, “People are a riddle both to themselves and to others. I know I am one, and I'm sure you are too."
Tom chuckled and looked away again. Several cars passed by them and he looked at them. “The heck am I talking about, anyway? Sorry for being too deep, maybe I'm getting too nervous, that's all. Tonight is yours, anyway." He took a deep breath and offered a small smile. “It also turned out you're not as bad as I thought. You're a pretty rad lad."
He was playing dumb, wasn't he? He knew he was attracted to the red wolf yet he kept masking his interest to protect himself. Really, he could just tell him 'let's do it' and before he knew it he'd be in some hotel room and giving it into the other. Tom chuckled bitterly, what was it again? Was it his nervousness or his trembling hands?
“Tom," Kevin began. Weird, his tone was neutral. “being super turned on aside, I really like you. I don't know if this is just me being horny or just looking for a one night stand like you said. But really, I'm interested in you. I don't know if this attraction will go away after a few days like they usually do."
“Let's just make the most of tonight, then." He looked at him and smiled, then shoved him playfully. Maybe he really needed to loosen up a little bit, enjoy people a little bit more. Mart often complained that he wasn't being social enough, ignorant the fox might be to his past. Kevin would be a great introductory lesson for Introduction to Social Life for him. “Please go easy with me." Maybe also let me forget that I'm lying to myselfand to you.
Kevin stared at him, then snickered as his ears straightened up. “You don't know what you're getting yourself into."
