KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS

Thank you for enrolling in the Regulian Cultural Advancement Program! As your first lesson, we'd like you to read the following impartial overview of Regulian History, beginning from plantary unification to the current day.

All years are listed in AD for the benefit of our newest colonial subjects. In order to set the stage for the period, one could compare the technology of 1355 AD to be in line with Earth's Pre-World War II period. The prevailing theory of Regulian Imperial Scholars is that during that period, Earth was just beginning to experiment with iron smelting and one can only imagine how advanced Earth might have been had contact been established earlier.

1355 AD – Areth I of the Eastern Regulian Empire invades the Western Regulian Empire without declaring war. Manages to take the Imperial Palace for week before withdrawing. It is rumored that he conceived Hasham III here. Conflict ends in a white peace, with neither side willing to commit to total war.

1373 AD – Hasham “Maneless" III takes the throne after Hasham II dies from shock after his femur shattered when he fell down a flight of stairs. Areth I claims that he's his bastard son, citing that he has no mane and probably dyes his fur to look more Western. Hasham III denies this.

1375 AD – Areth I invades the Western Empire and proclaims himself the first Emperor of Regulus. He is not recognized by most historians and Hasham III never surrendered or abdicated, fighting with rebels to reclaim the throne

1380 AD – Areth I dies suddenly of a heart attack. Hasham III returns to the Palace and marries Areth I's daughter, willfully defying the rumors that she is his half-sister.

1399 AD – Hasham III dies and his simpleton son, Hasham IV takes the throne.

1500 AD – Regulus moon landing

REDACTED BY THE ORDER OF THE EMPEROR AND THE CLAW

1553 AD – Regulians invent interstellar drive tech

1602 AD – Regulians make first contact with Lupiad-Sirian Empire. Regulian scout-ship was irreparably damaged when it collided with a Lupiad-Sirian station. The three Regulian scientists were rescued and given a warm welcome on Lupus.

1603 AD - One of the scientists stranded on Lupus became close with Queen Arneith of Lupus and the Queen officially took her on as a consort, marking the first known interspecies relationship in the galaxy.

1604 AD – Two of the Regulian scientists were returned to Regulus Prime. The Regulians welcomed them back with an elaborate friendship ceremony.

1606 AD – Queen Arneith of Lupus and King Ulthur of Sirius made an official visit to Regulus. Emperor Hasham IX welcomed them and took one of their daughters, Princess Heryas as his wife, creating what would later become the Regulian Imperial Alien Harem. Heryas would be central in maintaining friendly relations between the two Empires

1615 AD – Heryas's control over her husband became public knowledge. Anti-Lupiad-Sirian sentiments started becoming common among Regulians after tales of Heryas sexually dominating the Empress Ashia with the Emperor's knowledge and wishes became well-known.

1616 AD – Outrage erupted on Regulus Prime after it became known that Heryas was negotiating to give the Lupiad-Sirian Empire the rights to build an outpost on one of their moons as a gesture of friendship. Emperor Hasham IX took to television to defend his consort's actions in a widely hated broadcast where the Emperor often paused and nervously looked behind him, where Heryas was thought to be hiding behind a doorway. Some spectators close enough to the podium reported being able to smell her rancid scent.

-Empress Ashia, breaking with tradition, released an audio tape to the media where she made her own speech, calling for all loyal subjects to support her in taking back control of the Empire. Hasham IX and Heryas claimed that the tape was a forgery and that Ashia was faithfully serving the Empire, but refused to have her make a public appearance and word got out that she had left the palace and was in hiding.

-War of the Two Queens began, splitting Regulus into two sides:

Hashamites – Supporters of the Emperor. Initially consisted only of the most strict loyalists to the Emperor along with conservative groups who believe the Imperial Succession is absolute. Heryas however, noticing that support was vastly against them, forced the Emperor to make a public promise of reforming the Empire into a Federation, where the East Regulians and West Regulians all have strong autonomous governments. This would cause massive gains in support among the East Regulians, who had lost a lot of power following the union of the Empire, however, it would cause the conservative nobles to leave the Hashamite side and the reforms would be not enough for potentially liberal supporters.

Ashites – Supporters of the Empress Ashia. Thanks to populist rhetoric and anti-alien sentiment, Ashia managed to get a lot of support from common West Regulians, who were fearing that with increased Lupiad-Sirian influence, they would end up subservient to aliens. Initially, very few nobles supported the Ashites, but once Heryas proclaimed the Federationist reforms, a lot flocked to Ashia's side, believing it to be the lesser of two evils.

1618 AD – War of the Two Queens concludes with the Ashites winning. Hasham VII is forced into retirement and Ashia declares herself Empress-Regent, despite having a son who is of age. Ashia publicly demotes Heryas to the status of slave in an elaborate ceremony and is confined to a small room in the harem for the rest of her life. Ashia took hundreds of Lupiad and Sirian captives as concubines for the Harem and began publicly listing which ones she slept with each night. The Harem's purpose at this point, evolved from a system to encourage good relations through marriage, to a symbol of Regulian subjugation of other species.

-Ashia maintains peace in Regulus, but avoids bringing the Empire into a war with the Lupiad-Sirians, despite public outrage and all intelligence reports stating that they were financing the Hashamites and were even considering military intervention. Her goals end up being fostering unity on Regulus Prime and putting down any remaining notions of independence in East Regulus. East Regulus ends up even more marginalized as land is seized and redistributed towards West Regulians, and rebellions are put down violently.

1655 AD – Ashia passes away and her son, Hashia I takes the throne.

1661 AD – Hashia I, influenced by militaristic ministers, suddenly declares war on the Lupiad-Sirian Empire, taking both Regulians and Lupiad-Sirians by surprise. The Regulian fleet had initial major victories, taking many outposts and colonies from the Lupiad-Sirians and exterminating or enslaving the Lupiad-Sirian colonists.

-The First Lupiad-Sirian War begins

1666 AD – After a series of disastrous battles and stalemates, the two Empires sue for peace. Hashia I ended up pulling off what he expected to be a major dipolomatic and pragmatic gain, when the Lupiad-Sirians agreed to allow the Regulians to annex some of the colonies they invaded, in return for Hashia visiting Lupus and performing a humiliating kowtow towards the Dual Monarchy

1667 AD – Hashia I visits Lupus and the treaty is personally signed and bowed towards the King and Queen of the Lupiad-Sirian Empire. They left to a backroom and discussed some private matters, of which created many intimate rumors. From then on, Hashia I was dogged by people claiming he smelled like Lupiad-Sirian musk.

1668 AD – Surveys on the annexed colonies by Regulian scientists reveal that the colonies are lacking the resources that the Lupiad-Sirians claimed they had and what resources they did have, were in areas prone to cave-ins and flooding, sparking rumors that they were booby-trapped. Hashia I's popularity begins to sink to new lows.

1669 AD – Hashia I is drowned by his bodyguard while bathing at a resort retreat. With Hashia I's heirs being considered weak and his siblings being aged Hashamites, General Litho, a mixed Eastern/Western Regulian, forms a military junta and takes control of the government, declaring himself Regent.

1675 AD – General Litho marries Hashia I's oldest daughter, Princess Ashia on the day she came of age. He declares himself Emperor Litho I, despite according to law, he is merely an Emperor-Consort. As Empress Ashia II was a weak-willed figurehead, he effectively had no one contesting this.

1676 AD – Litho I declares an alternative to war with the Lupiad-Sirians, ignoring cries to avenge the Empire's humiliation: focus on colonizing the stars at a rapid rate. Space exploration ends up growing to a massive extent, fueled by government propaganda and promises of new ducal titles to worthy colonists, regardless of birth

1714 AD – Beta Vulpeculae is discovered by the Regulians and Lupiad-Sirians at almost exactly the same time. Both Empires guarantee the independence of the Vulpeculan Princes, while secretly undermining the others authority and working to diplomatically annex the primitive species

-Lupiad-Sirians have initial success, thanks to their similar physiology to the Vulpeculans. Attempts to foster mixed children with the Vulpeculans fail and they end up abducting several prominent Vulpeculans in an effort to force reproduction, which also fails.

1720 AD – Shots are fired between the Regulian and Lupiad-Sirian fleet above Beta Vulpeculae. Historians argue as to who fired first. The Lupiad-Sirian fleet retreated after heavy losses and the Regulian Empre demanded an immediate surrender from all several hundred Princes of Beta Vulpeculae. They get a unanimous agreement after threatening to orbital bombard the ones who refuse.

-The Second Lupiad-Sirian War begins

1722 AD – Litho I passes away in his sleep. Litho II ascends the throne, despite being a sensitive poet who never wanted to be Emperor, unlike his father; and despite having hung himself before his coronation. In order to prevent any chaos during wartime, Prince Raljesh, Litho II's brother, having not the time to find a look-alike, created the greatest puppet-show in the galaxy, fooling billions into thinking Litho II was alive when in reality his corpse was manipulated with thin wires.

1730 AD – Sirius surrenders after a long bombardment campaign to the Regulian Empire. Queen Donia of Sirius, declared a separate and unconditional surrender. Lupus is outraged and pogroms begin against Sirian residents.

1732 AD – Lupus falls after the Regulian marines invade. The battle is a massacre on both sides, with heavy losses, neither Empire having had to invade or defend an entire planet before. The Lupiad King, Dondio, goes into hiding without surrendering and is never found.

-The Lupiad Provisionary Government officially surrenders and the Lupiad-Sirian Empire is officially annexed

1733 AD – Prince Raljesh reveals his deception about his brother and declares himself Emperor Raljesh I. Despite some being outraged about having being lied to for almost a decade and some suspecting he suddenly murdered his brother, Raljesh deflects all criticism and allows an impartial autopsy on his brother that reveals that he has indeed been dead for a long time. Regulians end up supporting him after scholars agree it was a clever move.

1735 AD – Raljesh I goes on an Imperial tour, visiting all the new realms he conquered. After spending time on Vulpeculae, he ends up popularizing the Vulpeculan consort slave trade, declaring them to be the fairest species in the galaxy.

-While on Sirius, he ends up making friends with a lot of prominent businessmen and giving them royal decrees to start their own private space-faring businesses, so long as they remain loyal and report all findings to an assigned representative of the Empire.

-Raljesh I is shot by a needler in the chest while on Lupus. One of his surgeons, a Lupiad, attempts to murder him during his surgery but is killed by another Lupiad doctor with a scalpel. The Emperor's heart stops during this fight and the nurses barely managed to revive him to save his life.

1740 AD – While writing his memoirs, Raljesh I has a stroke that sends him into a coma and is immediately set up on life support. With advances in technology, Raljesh I can essentially be put on life support for eternity. With his children unwilling to turn off life support in the hopes that he comes out of his coma and due to his enormous popularity, a myth is concocted about the Emperor having gone to sleep now that his realm was at peace and would return when he was needed.

-Thus begins the Sleeping Emperor Era. Ducal and Kingly vassals received increased autonomy by the Regents, selected from the ranks of Raljesh's children and grandchildren. Space exploration was now at a peak, having no rival Empires threatening it.

-Lupiad rebels end up starting a major uprising on Lupus but are put down by the Regency government, showing that the government was not weakened by the Emperor's slumber.

1850 AD – The Regulians discover Procyon and their inhabitants, the Procyonids. They agree to become Regulian vassals, but give a dire warning that they are being threatened by another Empire, the Lacertans.

-Gamma Equuileius and Earth are also discovered at this point with probes. No contact is made with them yet.

1851 AD – The Lacertan fleet shows up at Procyon and defeats the Regulian fleet in a humiliating defeat. The Regulians, before retreating, attempting to take as many Procyonid refugees as they could.

-The Lacertans enslaved the Procyonids and displaced them. Procyon terraforming beings, turning it into a mostly desert planet

-The First Lacertan War begins

1852 AD - Facing a crisis and a lack of faith in the Regency Government, Emperor Raljesh II is declared Emperor. A direct descendant of Raljesh I, he declares himself the awakened Sleeping Emperor and quietly takes Raljesh I off of life support, allowing the ancient Regulian to finally pass away quietly.

1853 AD – Raljesh II, personally leading the Regulian fleet, has his flagship disabled and invaded by Lacertan and Equuileian marines. Photographs and videos showing the Emperor being humiliated leak into the Extranet for public viewing

-Raljesh II is declared dead by the Regulian Empire and his younger brother, Raljesh III takes the throne. In reality, Raljesh II spends the rest of his life a prisoner of the Lacertans, but it becomes illegal to state that he's anything but dead.

1880 AD – The First Lacertan War comes to a close. Raljesh III meets with Speaker Shivlev and the Regulians recognize their ownership of Procyon and given exclusive colonial rights to Gamma Equuleius. In return, the Lacertans give the Regulians exclusive rights to Earth.

-Although disappointed with the results, the Regulian Empire is relieved by the peace. The Lacertans fought well, had higher manpower, and were more technologically advanced; the Regulians recognized that it was a war they could not win.

-Raljesh calls for an Imperial Reconstruction effort, to help rebuild their crumbling infrastructure and manpower reserves. This also included increasing military production, foreseeing that another war was inevitable.

1885 AD – Increased scouts and probes visit Earth. Upon seeing the rapidly advancing humans and their manpower, the Lacertans show an unwillingness to allow unrestricted Regulian colonization. Skirmishes and blockades of Regulian expeditions begin without much resistance, thanks to Procyon being so close to Earth

1900 AD – Raljesh III passes away. His Grandson Raljesh IV takes the throne.

1908 AD – The skirmishes between the Regulians and the Lacertans heat up. A mass driver misfire ends up landing on Earth in Tunguska, creating the very first orbital bombardment of Earth.

-The Second Lacertan War begins. The war only had one major battle which ended in a stalemate. The rest was a series of indecisive skirmishes and they were infrequent.

1935 AD – Raljesh IV passes away in a rumored suicide. His son, Haresh I takes the throne.

1940 AD – A white peace is signed between the Lacertans and Regulians. The original articles of the previous treaty are recognized and they both promise to honor them.

1945 AD – A Regulian colonization of Earth is stopped when they witness two massive explosions on Earth, far largest than they thought possible by the natives. The colonization is put on hold indefinitely until they can replan.

1947 AD – A Lacertan ship crashes on Earth in New Mexico. Survivors unknown. Incident is covered up by the Lacertans, as it's a violation of the treaty.

1992 AD – Haresh I passes away after his heart failed while visiting a concubine in the Harem. Haresh II takes the throne.

2001 AD – Haresh II abdicates in favor of his son, Haresh III, and retires to Lupus, citing the climate as more agreeable to him.

2015 AD – Fearing increased Lacertan activity on Earth and the uncovering of the 1947 incident by Regulian intelligence, the Regulians invade and conquer the planet in a matter of months. Earth is annexed as a vassal state: Kingdom of Earth and a Regulian is crowned King.

2030 AD - Vassalized Earth occurs during this time

2031 AD – The Third Lacertan War begins

Sometime during this period, Outcast Planet occurs

2035 AD - Return to Vassalized Earth occurs (Coming December 20th!)
