Chapter 4.

Wolverine and I are about to begin our journey back towards our new home, the cave of Julius Thorpe. Before we leave Hammy's cave to begin our journey, he kindly packs two huge rucksacks full with food and warm bedding for what is going to be an epic journey for me, as I still suffer many injuries from my fight with the teens. We both give Hammy a deep and loving embrace and thank him for being there for us both, then we head out of his cave, the journey begins.

As we walk along the road, some of the teens from the fight, one of them, a tall grey Equine, stops us and begins to speak.

"I'm sorry for what happened, it was not my wish to hurt you so very badly, it is just that once our gang leader gets, sorry I should say got, an idea into his head, there was no reasoning with him, we had to follow orders or he would have surely taken his anger out on us. But now, thanks to you and your Arctic Wolf friend, we are finally free of gang life".

Wolverine heads to lunge forward at the Equine, but I stop him and speak to the Horse.

"I accept your heartfelt apology, I know that it can't have been easy to face me again and apologise, you have shown much courage by doing that, I for one would like you to know, that whilst I don't follow with gang culture, I do understand the pressure that you were all under, which is why I have no hard feelings toward any of you. I hope that you look back on this experience in years to come, when you have your own family, and steer the younger members of your family away from the gang scene. If you can do that, then my beating will have not been in vain, one day my friend, you will grow into a fine stallion, and hopefully a proud father".

I offer my paw to the Horse, who gently takes it in his hoofed hand, and shakes it. With that done, Wolverine and I say our farewells and leave the town.

Wolverine and I have been walking for many days, we are but half a days travel from our destination, however the night has fallen, it is dark and cold, both Wolverine and I feel the cold through our thick fur, we decide to rest for the night in a cave nearby, this would turn into a decision that would change our lives forever.

We enter the cave and find a place to sleep, we are both extremely tired from our journey, and we both lie on the cave floor. As I lie down I feel something sharp against my chest, but I am so tired, that I pay it no mind.

The morning comes all too quickly, I open my eyes and struggle to focus, I feel a wetness beneath me, I roll to my side, and am shocked to see blood, I feel the sharp pain in my chest again and look down, what I see makes me whimper loud enough to wake Wolverine.

Wolverine's eyes begin to focus, suddenly he sits bolt upright and speaks calmly to me.

"Wolfie, do as I ask without question, DO NOT MOVE, I will complete the journey back to Julius's cave and bring help".

Leaving his rucksack behind, Wolverine got onto all fours to make the journey home, sure, like me Wolverine is an anthropoid wolf, which means his usual way of walking resembles that of humans, but in times of dire need, such as this one, like me he could get onto all fours which would give him a greater top speed in his run.

Wolverine began his journey, it would take him three hours to get back to Julius's cave and raise the alarm.

Seven hours later, Wolverine and Julius arrive back at my resting place, Julius looks at me with a look of pure shock, sure enough he's brought his medical supplies, but it would turn out that there was nothing that he could do for me. Is this it?, is this how it will end?, surely not, but with each passing moment I could feel my life force flowing away.

At that precise moment, Julius hears a noise coming from the mouth of the cave, and runs off to investigate.

Julius now comes face to face with four anthropoid mice, he slowly begins to walk towards them in a threatening manner. The four mice are now rooted to the spot and Julius speaks.

"Why do you trespass through this cave?"

The Tan furred mouse slowly stepped forward and spoke.

"Hey, we are sorry, but we did not realise that these caves were being lived in, but now that we do, we will just turn around an leave you in peace".

Just as the mice turn to leave, I let out a groan of extreme pain. The mice stop dead in their tracks as they realise that there are more wolves in the cave, and that one, namely me, sounds injured. The Tan furred mouse now turns and speaks again.

"Look I know that you don't want us here, but it sounds as though one of your family is injured, maybe we can help, that is if you will allow us to?".

Julius considers the mouse's words carefully, and though they were strangers, they did indeed seem trustworthy and willing to help. Julius allowed the four mice to enter the chamber where I was lying, Wolverine was busy trying to keep me alive. The four mice take one look at my predicament and realise that they are going to need their vehicles and medical kits, two of the mice leave to retrieve the vehicles and supplies.

After ten minutes, the cave is filled with a sound that is foreign to me and my fellow wolves there is a loud rumble as three two wheeled machines enter the chamber closely followed by a four wheeled machine. The Tan furred mouse gathers all of the medical kits together, but makes a grim discovery.

"Oh man, no anaesthetic, that complicates things a little, but that wooden stake has to be removed, if I have any chance of sealing the wound, I'm just going to have to pull it out".

There are many gasps and protests from around the cave, but eventually it is realised that there is no other way.

I am now pinned to the floor by Julius, Wolverine and three of the mice, the Tan furred mouse now takes hold of the stake and pulls it clean from my body, I howl out in immense pain and begin to arch my back, then I pass out.

Time moves on, how much time I'm not sure, but I slowly begin to wake up, as my eyes begin to focus, I realise that I am no longer in the cave, I am in a bed, there is the smell of clinical anaesthetic in the air, there is a human sitting in a chair by my bedside, the strangeness of my surroundings makes me go a little crazy, the human springs to his feet and holds me down whilst calling for help. Suddenly I see Wolverine, Julius and the mice, at the sight of my two pack mates, I begin to calm myself a little. I begin to speak.

"J-Julius, Wolverine, where am I?", Wolverine now occupies the chair that the human had occupied only moments before and speaks.

"Wolfie, brother, do not be afraid, you are safe and amongst friends, and before you ask about these mice and whether we can trust them, I can tell you that yes we can trust them, if it hadn't been for these remarkable mice and this human doctor, you my dear bro would be dead by now".

The gravity of Wolverine's words hit me like a huge brick, I am now one very thankful wolf.

Again time moves on, six months to be precise, most of my injuries have heeled, it now appears that myself, Julius, Stellar, and Wolverine, have a new family to which we are now extremely loyal.

Time moves on again, I am now an extremely well built, twenty three year old, 6'2", silver furred, gay wolf. Along with my twenty eight year old black furred 7' brother, Wolverine, I am a bodyguard for my friend a mouse that goes by the name of Vinnie Van Daz, we are part of a new agency that Vinnie has set up, the agency being MI6: Mouse Division. Julius and Stellar have returned to their own pack. Myself and Wolverine, will never ever forget Julius and his family, I hope that one day he will return, and once again be by our side.

If there is one thing that I will take away from my life so far, it is this, myself and Wolverine have been extremely lucky with the friends that we have made, sure we have both had our fair share of disappointments, pain and suffering through our lives, but we have come through them all, and my belief is, that we are stronger for it.
