I doodled this earlier, and really liked him, spent most the day trying to name him mind

Marcus Fukuyama (Or ??????? in Japanese to cover it I guess).

I wanted a Western first name to symbolise that he's not Japanese, yet an Eastern surname to connect with the Tanuki folklore origins. Granted, the Marcus part of his name wasn't my idea, it was actually a friend, who said it fit, and I agreed. As for the surname, I actually hand-picked that using this(http://www.jref.com/japan/society/japanese_family_names.shtml). Apparently it's a last name that isn't uncommon so yay. I mostly was doing it to go the "ZUN-esk" way of doing names (Yukari Yakumo for example meaning Purple and Eight Clouds, and all sorts of stuff to do with borders). The Kanji means Good Fortune or Blessing (?) and Mountain (?). Good Fortune was a no-brainer, often stores place tanuki statues outside their shop to bring in good luck, so I wanted to tie that into his name. As for mountain? Well I mostly just wanted to say his family came from the mountains really. Tanuki are all over Japan so I felt it'd be nice to take his heritage somewhere in the mountains.

Though he's not Japanese, I've decided that much, he's certainly possibly European? Maybe, who knows! C:

I love his colours though. I was basing them off the Tanuki itslef and well as Tom Nook (Who is a Tanuki, not a Raccoon, Nintendo Translators just think the cultural references of The leaves and Tanuki will be lost on us) hurr. But I was mostly going for a warm feel, even his shirt I aimed for a blue that wasn't "cold" at all. Eeeeee.

Course to make sure he is certainly mostly the folklore style Tanuki. A leaf on the shoulder (Not his head, that's where his stylin' hair is at gosh), a booklet of booklet of promissory notes in his shirt and a bottle of sake by his foot. I also made sure to give him the old straw hat (Gotta be ready for bad weather) and a chubby belly.

As for other features, I'm sure they'll get mentioned at some point by someone. On the original doodle, I posted this

He was going to be the second (Changed my mind) third game (if I ever got there)’s extra boss.

His attacks bar the last two were going to be comical ripoffs of the previous characters. Like he’d rip off DO’s attack, say, Dragons Sin “Rage”, with Draconic Stupidity “Trantrum” etc. etc. As well as transforming his visage in the process (Think Pseudo Exorcism of a Stupid Shrine Maiden)

Or third game, he was honestly just going to be an extra style extra boss. Literally an extra. He would have next to no relevance to the game's story, and was mostly there to play tricks on the player character, in good intention of course. He's not a nasty fella, just mischievous. He'd be poking fun at previous characters and the player but like I said, think Pseudo Exorcism of a Stupid Shrine Maiden. He'd do an attack in the style of the character it's based off, but with a little umph that makes it his own.

But like I said, this would probably never happen because I'm too lazy and it would be effort.
