A brief history of Kyruku

Kyruku society's first contact with Earth came almost a century after the formal cessation of hostilities that marked the end of the Tel’vorsa wars, some time around 492 A.D. A Kyruku exploration probe passed through the solar system, and send back pict-feeds and basic data regarding the planets in Sol’s orbit. This was also a landmark date in the history of Kyruku space travel, marking the first probe using experimental sublight-speed travel to successfully reach a system beyond their own.

The first colonization vessel to reach Earth was the Mother of Progress, almost five hundred years later, closer to 1000 A.D. This might seem like a massive time gap, however, during this period, the Kyruku rebuilt their empire, and renewed their efforts to expand and research, as well as creating the necessary technology to move tens of thousands of colonists between worlds in a timely order. While the journey still took almost a decade, the colonists arrived, and created the first Kyruku facility on Terra, near the city of Islamabad in the middle east.

Over the next dozen decades, plans and drafts are written regarding the subjugation of the local populaces into the folds of the empire for labor use, however, steady advances in the surface side societies and protests from several fronts cause the plans to be abandoned entirely. The remainder of the next few centuries are spent with few incidents of note. One brief clash with a crusader force who mistakenly stumbled upon the ‘Top door’ of a facility occurs, but besides that, very little in the way of formal contact is made. Kyruku on the surface simply integrate themselves and blend in, reporting back with developments when they can.

By the mid 1500 A.Ds, Terra has become a fully self sufficient Kyruku colony, boasting a dozen different facilities, and a population of over 2.5 million. Standardization practices across the empire establish solid communication and management networks between the still developing colony and the rest of the empire, and the outer planets of the star system begin to have gas-mining operations opened for use throughout the empire.

Early in the first half of this century, a minor civil war breaks out between the facilities, a an attempted coup by secessionists is thrown down after a failed attempt on the planetary governor's life. By the end of the century, Kyruku society has become largely stabilized, and Terra fully enters the folds of the empire under the designation of a research and development colony, prompting many of Keyross’s best and brightest to emigrate, bringing an influx of highly skilled labor.

Shortly before the end of the 19th century, tensions have again grown with the secessionist parties, and several violent riots and conflicts break out between the starkly divided facilities of Terra. The vote at the latest set of elections is a near split 49-51 between those for remaining with the empire, and those wishing to break away. The next day, the Tunguska incident occurs, and pushes the still young colony into no reserves civil war.

Some time in the early morning, teams of heavily armed secessionist forces storm the Tunguska facility, a weapons research facility and home to some 80,000 souls, in hopes of stealing their stockpiles and information. Rather than give an inch, Tunguska facility mounts a stiff resistance, keeping the other facilities informed of their plight until their last minutes before the central control hub is breached. Their final transmission gives their apologies, and Tunguska signs off for the last time. Moments later, a large scale thermobaric weapon detonates above the facility at the same time as internal purging cleanses the facility of all life, and wipes it from existence as well as a large area of the surface above, destroying the top door exit and any evidence the facility was ever there at all.

This civil war consumes Terra for the better part of a century, and both world wars skip by otherwise unnoticed to the species, and the only surface side event of note is the Spanish flu outbreak, which itself manages to find its way into the facilities and effect some several hundred thousand members of the species, resulting in a brief ceasefire while treatment is given priority. Eventually, Keyross grows tired of the small colony’s conflict and steps in, sending a full combat fleet to quell the uprising, which had gone on far too long, even by Kyruku standards of war.

Since the conclusion of hostilities, Terra has been kept on a tight leash and under the direct authority of the Royal Kyruku Naval Task Force Undaunted, where it  is set to remain for the foreseeable future.
