Pieces of the Spirit
I woke with a start from the depths of my dreams, the revocation of a restful slumber wrenched from my mind and leaving my heart thudding with anxiety.
The dreams of my youth were no longer a pleasant commodity, where I once saw the world with eyes that believed there was hope and a standing strength the fates would offer me, even in my most dire of struggles.
My heart would not cease its shuddering, the rush of blood through my veins made the butterflies in my stomach, twist with agonizing reality, and I found myself weeping in bitter tears.
The fragile fragments of my spirit, shattered by the repeated constant of a promise broken, reminded me of a time long before I had entrusted my soul to one whom took for granted the treasure they had been given... for every crystalline jewel that fell down the pale hollows of my cheeks, another memory haunted my wakeful mind.
The scream that might have left my lips I found was silenced by the tight and constricting, painful sensation of the breath in my lungs, caught between my chest and my throat, the vocal chords that once sang the praises of one whom I often laughed and smiled for now only found with utmost regret, the horror of betrayed loyalty.
Where I wish that my heart would allow me to let go, my spirit feels chained... shackled by the overwhelming bouts of depression that circumvent the existence of a broken heart.
I want to breathe... but all I can manage is a strangled gasp between sobs that emphasize my sorrow...
