KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS

It took a short moment to notice it, yet, to the little one, it seemed like an eternity. Never such a sight was beheld to the small possum, so this was beauty in all its glory. The brown leaf fell and slowly floated down, dancing and flitting about. The wind seemed to have grabbed it and decided to dance with the leaf to the unheard ballad sung by Mother Nature. Ever so gracefully, the leaf dipped and rose and swayed till it touched the ground.

The possum looked around and saw the same phenomenon happening to the rest. The bright display of orange, red and gold was mesmerizing to the young lad. The colors swayed, the colors flew. It indeed was a magical time. Of course, this being his first time remembering anything to do with bundling up, going outside and seeing the world in a fading beauty, this left somewhat an impression on him.

No sooner had he taken this all in, his mother called out to him and said that they were going for a walk. Knowing what the word 'walk' was (and was he a great walker), the young marsupial followed his mother diligently, taking in the sight and sound that the world had to offer him. There was the soft whisper of the wind that picked up the rustling, bustling leaves. There was the occasional crunch of the leaves he stepped upon.

Then there was another thing that amazed him the most: puddles. With each step in them, they made a sort of noise that didn't fit in with his vocabulary. 'Splat' didn't work. Though, that wasn't what amazed him; it was the way the water splashed around when he walked upon them. He also noticed that the greater the jump, the greater amount of water would fly up and-

His mother than told him to stop it. Like a good possum would do to any sudden sound, he fell and pretended to sleep, just like his instincts (the word which he learned from daddy and mommy) and dad and mom taught him. He heard his mom squeak and the sound of her shoes tip-tapping on the sidewalk towards him. Then he felt hands shake him, asking if he was alright? Was he hurt?

A smile came to the young male. Apparently, he was great at pretending to sleep. He opened his eyes and giggled at the terrified look of his mom as she stared at him. Then he began to laugh as her face turned to one that was agitated.

She helped him up and told him not to do that again. This brought up a question to the small possum: but why teach him how to pretend to sleep when she and daddy helped teach him? Mom just sighed and told him to not scare her then. That seemed more reasonable to her, so they began to walk again.

A few minutes later, he went back to splashing (is that the word?) and looking at the leaves. Pretty soon, he got bored of them and looked around. There were other kids outside, a few, yes, but there were others. He considered playing with them, but he was a bit too shy to do so. What if his mom said no? Besides, they had their mom with them. Maybe they were walking too.

The possum and his mom were now inside a store. This obviously got the child excited. Soon, he found himself in a row of shelves filled with all sorts of things. There were packages with whatever was in them. There were little sticks with little balls on top of them. If memory served him right, they were called 'candy' and they were delicious. He looked at mom and asked if it was okay to have some candy? Yes, he was able too; his toys were put back into his chest and he didn't bother mom and dad for a walk all day.

Surely she must be joking? Oh well, if she says so, may as well take some.

He followed her around the store, looking at fishing poles (dad had some in the shed), boxes, shelves, lights, furs, scalies, birdies... It was a rather cool place, this store. So many things to get from.

While he was browsing around in the toy section, he found himself next to a bigger kid. Though, he had never seen such a strange person. He had a brown face and his jaw was white. There was a black line going from his nose to the lower part of his muzzle. Then there was the fact that his face seemed to be a bit long and slender. His ears were funny looking too.

Both studied each other for a few seconds before greeting each other. Apparently, this strange person was a 'deer', with two e's and no 'a'. Both kids then began to talk about little nothings, like the weather (it was called 'fall' apparently) and Thanksgiving.

Little Zac asked what this 'Thanksgiving' was? It's like dinner, only bigger and with your relatives, answered Po.

Before anything else happened, a bigger deer appeared and scolded poor little Po. Feeling like it was unfair, the possum said that Po was okay. He wasn't hurt. She should be grateful that he was with Zac. The bigger deer, who seemed to be the mom of his newly acquainted friend, just huffed and said that he could have gotten hurt; she has every right to worry.

After saying that, mom popped up and said the same thing to Zac. The possum blushed and said he was fine. What's wrong with talking to a deer anyways? Nothing. Both mothers then laughed a bit at the small bravado that the possum was holding up. Po was shuffling his hoof, looking a bit embarrassed for some reason. A little while later, both the possum and deer family got acquainted and headed towards the check out area.

The line was slow, but they all soon were able to leave and the deers started to head towards their car. Mom and Zac said good bye to Po and Reyla, and they went their separate ways. Well, at least for now, but that's another story.

Little Zac then continued to walk home with his mom. The young possum was amazed at all these things that deal with his life. Fall, deer, pretend-sleeping, shopping, falling leaves, cold winds. Well, it may be a dreary day, but at least it was fun and entertaining. Better than nothing as his dad would say.

For now, this small possum was content with life and what was happening, as good can get out of it. Also, there was this Thanksgiving and bed time to look forward too. This was an entertaining day.

Good Night.
