Fera, or ‘Quadruped’ Kyruku

Quadruped, or 'Fera Vulpes Kyrukus' (Meaning ‘Feral Vulpine Kyruku’, in latin), often shortened to ‘Fera’, are found much smaller numbers than the typical anthropomorphic Kyruku, due to their population being drastically smaller during the species evolution. This sub-set of Kyruku have maintained their ‘four legged’ appearance and biology, however, thanks to the medical advances and training of their anthro counterparts, have been ‘leapt forward’ through their evolution.

Feral Kyruku are typically the size of a large German Shepherd variety canine, and have an average lifespan of around fifty terran years. They exist alongside their anthro counterparts in numbers estimated at a current population of several million empire wide, many whom were brought to Terra over the centuries. Though technically of the exact same genus, the designation ‘fera’ in their scientific name is simply used to distinguish them apart as being of the four legged variety of Kyruku. An interesting point of study when considering the evolution of the species, it is believed that the feral variety continued to thrive in isolated areas of Keyross, and since discovery, have been assimilated into the species whole.

Their physical strength and agility are considered as ‘on par’ to the domestic German Shepherd, however, their intelligence is widely considered to be at the level of a typical eighteen to twenty year old, with allowances for outliers. They are capable of solving complex puzzles and learning skills, however, their vocal chords are not evolved appropriately for intelligible speech. They communicate with primal noises on a more sophisticated level, with certain patterns of sounds representing certain phrases.

Considered as full citizens of the Kyruku Empire, they perform more uniquely suited and specialized tasks, and it is a common occurrence to see them working alongside designated ‘handlers’ within units of the military and planetary police forces. Their un-dulled senses are often employed to detect narcotics and explosives at customs checkpoints, and their keen sight and reasoning allow them to work with much efficiency in rescue operations.

While many would look upon them as ‘pets’, they refuse to yield to any who would call themselves their master, and are known to be quite aggressive to people who would see themselves as higher status. The typical Kyruku ‘fera’ living within Kyruku society are usually friendly and well mannered, however, outside of the facilities, larger, more wolf-sized packs still roam free, and have been known to attack on sight, or lay traps for unwary wanderers.
