Conception
A whisper, the tiniest of echoes breached the silent conclave of my thoughts, and I looked down to the tiny bundle within my arms, the memory of a time I once held such great fear at losing what has so desperately become precious to me, is fresh within my mind. His fingers coax the raw emotion of a lioness defending her cubs, and his smile could melt even the iciest of foreign hearts, the painful twist of muscles contracting, and the feverish heat that had once threatened to black out my consciousness, still twists somewhere within the pit of my subconscious.
He was a handful, even before he was born... the reminiscent linger of tiny feet reminding my ribs that my lungs were little more than punching bags for his entertainment and recreational use, strengthening curled up limbs with the clawing stretch of a fist-clenched hand, fetal positioning of a tiny frame within my own, and the subsequent feeling of a heartbeat that match in synchronized harmonies to that of my own, the press of my palm against a once swollen area of flesh, gave me pause and a sedated sensation of euphoria throughout the state of my gestational transition.
He brings me back to the existence of the here and now, demanding forward attentions and giving me more reason to laugh, and smile... as I gather him up and toss him with offering of the stars, I drew him closer to myself, arms embracing him with the love only a mother could dare offer him... in this world were so much is uncertain, love, unconditionally, is what he has given me... and for my thanks in the miracle that is my beloved son, I offer the universe, over the world.
