How can one visit the facilities?

Put simply, one can’t, unless one is either very well connected, influential, in the know, or wanted by the Royal Kyruku Intelligence Group. These methods may have varying levels of just how satisfying and enjoyable you may find your visit. On the plus side, most holding cells for the latter are more like a studio apartment. The duration of your stay may be prolonged.

But in all seriousness, much like a hidden treasure, it’s unlikely an outsider would be able to gain access to the facility without knowing exactly where it was and just what it was. The easiest way in is to be invited by someone with sufficient privileges within the facility, for example, a security officer, or government official with the correct credentials. Exceptions exist for direct family members of people living within the facility, but these can be costly and time consuming to organize. That person will be solely held responsible for you during the duration of your stay, and it is not something to be taken lightly.

Kyruku are inherently distrustful of outsiders, and doubly so of non-Kyruku who are simply ‘visiting’ rather than living permanently inside the facilities. As mentioned earlier, Kyruku guard their secrets fiercely, and any leak of those secrets are handled quickly, and often very overtly. Nothing sends a message quite the same as a whistleblower being dragged back and strung up for questioning.

However, exceptions to the strict access rules are often made, and the first port of calling most outsiders who are invited to a facility reach is the Kyruku Office of External Relations. From here, security permits and access cards are distributed, along with any facility specific rules and regulations discussed to ensure that no unfortunate accidents occur. Kyruku security forces seldom use less than lethal methods.

An agreement of responsibility is signed by both the visiting party and their ‘host’, and once this is completed, one is free to explore the facility as desired, so long as all rules are adhered too at all times. Remember, it’s not just your head on the block if you were to accidently wander into a high security area.

What there is to see in each facility varies by location, however, for reference, let me point out a few of the more prominent facilities, and take a moment to explain what purpose each serves. Each facility is typically abbreviated based on the nearest surface side location, and it’s function and primary purpose. These purposes are varied, from Research, to military, and even medical and education. Each of these massive underground cities serves a unique role within the whole of the Terran network.

When looking at the abreviations, one can quickly discover the purpose of each facility. A designation will begin with ‘KF’, for ‘Kyruku Facility’, or ‘KFO’, for ‘Kyruku Field Outpost’. The later is seldom used any more beside from the military, who occasionally will create a temporary outpost on the surface for use during exercises or special missions.

After the KF will come a string of what can be many or few letters, each representing a specialist role of the Facility. These are as follows.

KF-AE: Academic and Educational facility, typically housing centers of learning and study for the species. The largest on Terra is KF-AE ISLBD, or the Islamabad facility, home to a massive, hollowed out stalactite that was turned into a large horticultural facility, affectionately referred to as the Hanging Gardens. The site brings in students and academics from all across the empire, and is renowned as one of the best facilities for learning. Coincidently, it it also one of the more common destinations for outsiders, as it has a thriving tourism industry primarily profiting from travelers from the other facilities.

KF-RD: Research and Development, most commonly industrial and scientific facilities, and the manufacturing hubs of the species. The dominant R&D facility on Terra is KF-RD BERLIN, or Berlin, which has a strong focus towards military technology and firearms development, partly due to it’s proximity to KF-RKM MUNICH

KF-M: Medical facilities get this designation, and are typically home to cutting edge care facilities, and are kept on stricter degrees of access than most other facilities due to the nature of their work. Often used doubly as medical research facilities.

KF-RKM: Royal Kyruku Military Facilities. These facilities do not permit civilians on site without permission, and are home to the planetside garrisons of the Kyruku Armed Forces. Most are designed to house between 50,000 to 100,000 troops, as well as their equipment, training facilities, and vehicles. Each is equipped with an upscaled BLink chamber for instantaneously transporting large numbers of troops, and allows them to rapidly deploy anywhere on the planet in force.

And on that note, by far, the fastest way around the facilities and between them is using the locally interfaced Bartash-Lincan instantaneous network (for) kinisis, or BLink devices. First developed in the late 19th century, the BLink device uses a complex process of particle disassembly and reassembly to almost instantaneously shift people and matter from one location to another.

Typically, each facility will have at least three of these devices, designed on a scale to facilitate large volumes of traffic, but smaller, personal models do exist in prototyping stages with the Kyruku Military. The process does however require vast amounts of power, and most are fixed in location by that requirement, permanently powered by thermal generators buried beneath each facility, closer to the planet’s core.

The personal models work on a similar concept, but are surgically grafted to the user's hip-bone by nano-fiber rods that transfer body heat to a micro thermal generator and capacitor bank stored on the fist sized device. As the device draws more power after multiple rapid transits, it gains heat quickly, and in turn, uses this heat to permit further jumps. As the device was designed to withstand extreme temperatures, this often results in extreme user discomfort and severe injury if used improperly.

These devices have allowed the Kyruku on Terra an unprecedented level of mobility and freedom to move people and resources as needed. The exact working of these devices however, remains one of the Kyruku’s most closely guarded secrets, and it is said that the only existing blueprints and all research relating to the devices has long since been moved back to a secure location on Keyross.
